Newcastle off to a good start!

Alan Shearer and Newcastle United will be in high spirits after performing well in the three competitive matches that they played in August. They played against London giants Arsenal and Chelsea in the league, whilst they played MK Dons in the Capital One Cup.

League Results

: Fabricio Coloccini

Newcastle kicked off their Premier League campaign away to Chelsea. Whilst Chelsea largely dominated the match, debutant Alessandro Matri gave Newcastle the lead after a controversial penalty decision. Matri slotted the penalty into the bottom left corner, whilst Petr Cech dived the opposite way. Fernando Torres equalized for Chelsea after Eden Hazard crossed the ball to him and Torres scored a simple tap-in. Demba Ba also played against former club Newcastle, one year after joining Chelsea. The attendance for the game was 41,798.

: Vurnon Anita

When the fixtures were announced, it looked grim for Newcastle. The first four fixtures were against Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. Having earned a draw in the away game against Chelsea, Newcastle were to host their first home game of the season against Arsenal. Nobody predicted the final scoreline. A comfortable 2-0 win for the home side. Maybe it wasn't such a surprise that they won, being the hosts, but to win by a two goal margin was a superb result for the Tyneside club. Captain Fabricio Coloccini opened the scoring for Newcastle when Davide Santon whipped in a corner which found the head of Moussa Sissoko, who headed the ball down to Coloccini, who placed the ball in the bottom of the net. The next goal came from a counter attack. As Newcastle continued to defend well, new signing Davide Astori headed the ball out to Hatem Ben Arfa after Bacary Sagna had crossed the ball. Ben Arfa, who was continuing his recovery from injury, carried the ball forward and then hit a short pass to Alessandro Matri. Matri played the ball through to Vurnon Anita who then hit a 10 yard pass to Moussa Sissoko on the edge of the box. As Arsenal goalkeeper Wojech Szczesny rushed out of his goal, Sissoko tapped the ball to his left and the ball found the net. Attendance: 48,879

Cup Result

: Yoan Gouffran

'Wonderkid' goalkeeper, Joe van der Sar became the youngest player to play for Newcastle, and the youngest player to play in the Capital One Cup when he made his debut for the club at the age of 14 years and 166 days. Newcastle beat Npower League 1 side MK Dons 1-3 in the Capital One Cup 2nd round. Yoan Gouffran picked up the match ball and the Man Of The Match award after a match winning hat-trick sealed Newcastle's place in the 3rd round. The first goal came when Gouffran intercepted a pass on the halfway line and sprinted past the last man. He took the ball out to the byline and when he saw that the 'Dons goalkeeper was off his line, lobbed the ball over him in outstanding fashion. His second goal came after a brilliant through ball from Vurnon Anita. He ran onto it and slotted it under the keeper. He rounded off his hat-trick when left back Davide Santon hit a 30 yard pass to Moussa Sissoko on the edge of the area. He ran down the left flank before drilling a low cross in to Gouffran who just tapped it home. MK Dons got one goal back after Dean Bowditch picked the ball up on the edge of the area and fired it low, to the right of the goal. Attendance: 8,120 (stadium:mk)

Average September For Newcastle!

Newcastle picked up some good results in the league but also had some very disappointing ones. The league matches were against Manchester United, Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. They also played in the Capital One Cup against Norwich but you can find the result along with the league results below.

League Results

:Davide Astori

Newcastle kicked off September with a trip to Old Trafford where they held giants Manchester United to a 1-1 draw. Newcastle opened the scoring when Vurnon Anita picked the ball up 30 yards from goal. He played a short pass to Hatem Ben Arfa, who went on a run past three defenders before powering the ball through the keepers hands. Manchester United's equalizer came when Portugese winger Nani ran down the right wing before crossing the ball low to the near post. Dutch striker Robin Van Persie got to the ball first but didn't make any real contact. However, it was enough to confuse the Newcastle defense and a goal line scramble ensued which ended in Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini running the ball into his own net. However, it was a good result for Newcastle and things looked bright for them, as they looked to build on last month's good performances. Attendance: 75,765.

: Daniel Agger

Newcastle lost their first match under Alan Shearer when they hosted Liverpool at St James's Park. Newcastle opened the scoring when Italian striker Alessandro Matri got on the end of Moussa Sissoko's lofted through ball and placed his shot into the bottom left corner. Liverpool's equalizer came when winger Stewart Downing whipped in a corner which Danish center back Daniel Agger volleyed into the bottom corner. Liverpool took the lead when Daniel Agger tackled Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini on the edge of the area. The ball skidded through to Spanish striker Iago Aspas who smashed the ball into the center of the net. So a slightly disappointing result for Newcastle, considering they were at home but they were up against a big club so it was a good performance. Attendance: 48,785.

: Bongani Khumalo

It was a hugely disappointing result for Newcastle as they lost to newly promoted Crystal Palace. Newcastle dominated the game but failed to take their chances which ended up costing them as they lost 1-0. Fullback Shaun Cummings scored the only goal when he picked up the ball on the left side of the penalty area and blasted the ball into the bottom corner. A disappointing result which was largely down to the strikers failing to take their chances which ultimately cost the hosts the game. Attendance: 47,900.

: Alessandro Matri

Newcastle looked to put the result against Crystal Palace aside and move on as they made the trip to the Midlands to play Aston Villa. The game ended in a 2-1 away win for Newcastle. Alessandro Matri bagged a match winning brace to add to a terrific performance from the new signing. Matri opened the scoring after Yoan Gouffran played a chipped through ball into the penalty area. Matri chested the ball down and placed it into the corner. Aston Villa equalized as Charles N'zogbia ran from the right hand touchline into the penalty area and knocked the ball in at the near post. Matri won the game when substitute and new signing Nicolás Gaitán flicked the ball on. Matri took the ball past two defenders and smashed the ball under Jed Steer. Attendance: 35,360.

Cup Result

Newcastle played Norwich in the Capital One Cup 3rd round. The teams went all the way to penalties after a 1-1 draw. Newcastle beat Norwich 4-3 on penalties and progressed to the 4th round where they will play Stoke.

: John Ruddy

Anthony Pilkington gave Norwich the lead when Martin Olsson played a through ball which Pilkington picked up and smashed the ball low into the near post. Ryan Bennett tripped Gouffran in the penalty area. Hatem Ben Arfa coolly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner whilst Ruddy dived the other way. The match continued to penalties where Newcastle and Norwich were tied 3-3 with Newcastle with one penalty left to take. Captain Fabricio Coloccini stepped up with the crowd behind him. He smashed the ball into the top corner and he won the tie for Newcastle. Attendance: 23,139.

Monthly Awards

Our Player Of The Month award goes to new signing Alessandro Matri who scored three times in five matches. The new signing who joined Newcastle from Italian giants Juventus in July for £7.75 million, has been in great form in the league for Newcastle so far, scoring four goals in seven appearances.

Our Young Player Of The Month award goes to Italian left back Davide Santon who turned in some great performances and the youngster more than deserves the award.

The Goal Of The Month award goes to Alessandro Matri vs Aston Villa when Yoan Gouffran chipped the ball through to the striker who chested it down and placed it into the bottom corner.

Outstanding October For Newcastle!

League Results

: Gabby Agbonlahor

Newcastle made the trip down south when they traveled to play struggling Southampton. The game ended in a 1-4 away win for Newcastle which left the home fans shocked and the traveling fans smiling. Italian striker Alessandro Matri opened the scoring when Yoan Gouffran played the ball into the box. He took a shot which the keeper saved but the ball came right back into his path and he simply tapped it in. Then half time came. The turning point in the match. Alan Shearer decided to bring new striker Gabby Agbonlahor on to replace Yoan Gouffran. Four minutes into the second half, Nicolás Gaitán cracked a stinger at goal. The keeper palmed it away but only found Agbonlahor, who smashed it into the open goal from the right side of the penalty area. Agbonlahor scored again when Nicolás Gaitán crossed a free-kick in from 40 yards out which Agbonlahor got on the end of and headed into the bottom corner. He was given the chance for his hat-trick when Morgan Schneiderlin tripped him in the area. He stepped up to take the penalty and slotted it away into the right corner. Southampton pulled one goal back when Schneiderlin crossed the ball from inside the penalty area. His cross found Jason Puncheon who tapped the ball in. Attendance: 28,523.

: Hatem Ben Arfa

Newcastle hosted West Ham as they looked to build on their 1-4 away win against Southampton. Not only did Newcastle win by a comfortable 3-1 scoreline but one of their players made Premier League history. Joe van der Sar, son of Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar, became the youngest player to ever play in the Premier League when he came on near the end of the match at the age of 14 years an 218 days. The first goal came when Fabricio Coloccini headed the ball out from a West Ham corner. Alessandro Matri got in front of Winston Reid and from inside his own half, ran past three defenders before passing to Moussa Sissoko on the edge of the box. Sissoko passed the ball across to Hatem Ben Arfa, who drove the ball into the bottom left corner. West Ham equalized on the brink of half time when Kevin Nolan crossed the ball in from a free-kick which found Winston Reid who just headed it home. After the break, Newcastle retook the lead when Vurnon Anita tackled Joey O'Brien befor passing it to Alessandro Matri down the left flank. Matri crossed it in and a scramble began in the penalty area. Anita reacted first as he smashed the ball over the goalkeeper. The third goal came when Hatem Ben Arfa played a lovely through ball to Nicolás Gaitán who passed into open space on his right where Agbonlahor, who came off the bench at half time, took the ball round the goalkeeper before passing the ball into the net. Attendance: 45,181.

: Yoan Gouffran

It was the local derby. Newcastle Vs Sunderland. Newcastle had already had two great results this month and looked set to get a third as they were 4-0 up by half time. Newcastle opened the scoring when Vurnon Anita played a lofted ball to Alessandro Matri. Matri flicked the ball on with his head and found Yoan Gouffran, who volleyed it past the oncoming keeper. They went 2-0 up when Nicolás Gaitán scored his first goal for Newcastle as he smashed the ball into the top corner from a 20 yard free-kick. Their third goal came when Gaitán crossed from a 40 yard free-kick. Matri made space for himself and coolly headed home. Their final goal came when Davide Santon played a great cross into Yoan Gouffran, who got his head to the ball and scored their fourth. Joe van der Sar came on at half time for Newcastle and Sunderland scored their only goal when N'Diaye smashed the ball in from 23 yards out. Attendance: 52,405.

Cup Result

Newcastle had already beaten MK Dons and Norwich to reach the 4th round of the Capital One Cup but now they faced a bigger challenge as they faced over-achieving league leaders Stoke City at St James's Park.

: Jermaine Pennant

Newcastle would qualify for the quarter final of the Capital One Cup if they beat league leaders Stoke City. Newcastle took the lead when Nicolás Gaitán played a through ball to Alessandro Matri. Matri controlled the ball before bending the ball into the top corner. The hosts doubled their lead when Jermaine Pennant's shot was blocked by Yoan Gouffran who kept the ball before passing out wide to Matri. Matri drilled the ball into the box where Moussa Sissoko tapped the ball under Asmir Begovic. They extended their lead to 3-0 when Matheu Debuchy drilled the ball in to Agbonlahor. He took a touch to knock it past the defender and then smashed it into the top corner with his laces. Stoke scored a consolation goal when Man Of The Match Jermaine Pennant whipped in a corner which found Robert Huth who nodded the ball past Joe van der Sar. This has set up a quarter-final tie between Newcastle and giants Manchester United at St James's Park. Attendance: 31,985.

Cheick Tiote Out For 9 Months!

Ivorian midfielder Cheick Tiote, 26, is said to be very disappointed to have picked up an injury which has brought his season to an end. The Newcastle midfielder was injured in a challenge with N'Diaye during the local derby against Sunderland. He has been quoted as saying " It's very disappointing that I can't help my team to get success in the league and for that I am sorry." With the central midfielder out for 8-9 months, manager Alan Shearer will have to consider a change of tactics to fill the hole left by his first choice midfielder. In the games that we've seen them play since the injury, they have either used young Burundian midfielder Gaël Bigirimana as a replacement or have pulled French attacking midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa back into the central midfielder role with Nicolás Gaitán taking the attacking midfielder slot left by Ben Arfa. Despite winning against Stoke in the cup since his injury, we just didn't really see the same aggression that we saw with Tiote. However, they still played well and will hope that this injury doesn't affect them as much as they first feared.
Sorry about the injury mate, but if anyone can find a way to fill the void it's you.

Great results in the derby against Sunderland! I bet the fans would have loved that.

Really in-depth details about your matches is brilliant and the player profiles make it that much better, keep up the great work!.

Thanks I'm loving your Bologna story btw :)

Shearer: Taylor Can Leave
Yesterday, Newcastle center back Steven Taylor announced that he had spoken to manager Alan Shearer about his ambitions. He said "I've told Alan that I think I've achieved all I can at the club and want to ply my trade elsewhere. I'm waiting for his response and an outcome should be reached tomorrow." In the July/August transfer window, Arsenal made a £7.5 million bid for Taylor but Newcastle rejected it claiming that it didn't meet their valuation of the defender. This afternoon, Alan Shearer told Taylor that he could leave, preferring the partnership of captain Fabricio Coloccini and new signing Davide Astori. So will Arsenal make a new, improved bid or will Taylor end up elsewhere? We'll have to wait until January to find out. Shearer is thought to be asking for around £9.5 million for Taylor. He joins Argentinian midfielder Jonás Gutiérrez on the transfer list, with Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan thought to be interested in him and prepared to pay around £10 million for him.

Taylor has been on the bench for most of the season.

Gutiérrez has not played for Newcastle this season.
