Real Salt Lake Emerge Victorious After Long Campaign

December 1, 2012

The wait if finally over for RLS fans, as their long season ended with an MLS final win.

After scraping through on penalties against Seattle Sounders, they then went on to face LA Galaxy in the Western final. It came as a surprise to everyone when they came away 6-1 winners on aggregate. (1-1 in the first leg, 5-0 in the second). Goals from Javier Morales, Robbie Findley and Alvero Saborio assured Real's place in the final.

They faced Houston in the final, who themselves have won the competition twice since its beginning in 1996. In a final to remember for the neutral, goals from Robbie Findley, Kyle Beckerman, Javier Morales, a brace from Alvero Saborio and an own goal from Tally Hall sealed a 6-4 victory (Houston goals coming from Brian Ching, Brad Davis , Warren Creavalle and an own goal from Nick Romando).

This is now the second time that Real Salt Lake have won the MLS, the other time back in 2009 when they beat LA Galaxy at Century Link Field.

Manager, Jason Kries said; "It's a wonderful experience for me and the club. To put 5 past LA Galaxy was special enough, but to score 6 in the final, it's just crazy!"

Player of the Seaon, Kyle Beckerman, added; "This is my second time of winning this with the club, but this one feels better. To win player of the season, was an honour, but to win the MLS in a 10 goal match was just amazing."

Shame That

Losing on penalties is always hard, but to lose to eventual winners makes it a bit less heart breaking. Still, we'd had a pre-season to change, to mix and match, and i had new players that i brought in. Some of them, i've had my eyes on for a while, the rest just popped up out of no where.

IN-

Bofo Bautista - Free Transfer

He name suddenly shot around the grapevine, so I sent my scouts to check him out. He was old, but still had some ability left in him. He had become a free agent, so it was easier to sign him.

Marvell Wynne - £575K from Colorado Rapids

I had been chasing Wynne for a while now, i wanted to play overlapping football and i knew Wynne's ability was the way forward. He had pace, he had skill and most importantly, he had experience of winning the MLS. Some of you may know him from this;

Anthony Obodai - £240k from Columbus Crew

I wasn't too sure about Anthony. Sure, he had skill, but I think I may have made a mistake.

Chris Wondolowski - £4.7M from San Jose Earthquakes

I could not believe it when we unveiled the new signing of Chris Wondolowski. I tried my very best to persuade him to move, and it had worked. Some pundits were saying that £4.7M is a bit over priced, but he was the striker i wanted.

OUT-

Marc Burch - £300K + 2 D.A to Philadelphia Union

It was a shame to see Marc leave, but he requested to move and I couldn't stand in his way. This did give the opportunity for me to play the younger players however.

Josh Ford - Free Transfer

Josh could never really find game time at Seattle, so in the best interest of both parties, i had to release him.

Seattle Sounders Release Next Year's Kits

Hm, is there not an allocation fund in classic mode? Was wondering how in the hell you managed to splash 4.7 million pounds on Wondo. That's a lot to pay for an aging striker, but he's good. I don't know too much about the other players. How widespread is your scouting? (Sorry if I sound overly critical, this is one of the few stories I can lend analysis to.)

Also, those kits are sweet. I love the lime swirl on the white shirt, wish Seattle would wear that regularly.

Nope, really is just a dumbed down version. I received about £7m to spend and i really wanted Wondo. Marvell Wynne just has a ridiculous amount of speed. It's quite wide. It's fine, i don't really mind.

Seattle's away kit now is terrible imo, would the home be better just green and white?
Always love an MLS story. Keep it up

IN-

Cesar Cercado - £600K from Lobus BUAP

Reasonably unknown by many people in America, Cercado popped up out of know where. He is a good full back, versatile and has plenty more years of football ahead of him.

OUT-

Brad Evans - Free to Montreal Impact

Brad and I failed to reach an agreement on his contract, and so, when Montreal swooped in Brad decided to leave.

Eriq Zavaleta - Loaned to Chicago Fire

Again, i didn't really see Eriq featuring in my plans, so a loan move to keep up his match fitness was a good decision.

Back To Proper Football

We had returned to competitive football, and our first month had been simply brilliant. Before I give you the report, there are a few announcements.

Sigi Schmid Becomes Montreal Manager

The man that Seattle sacked so I could take over, had become Montreal manager over the pre-season. I hope he does well, and I wish him all the best.

Lamar Neagle To Chicago £375K + 1 D.A

Lamar Neagle decided he wanted football life away from Seattle, so I was happy to grant that wish.

March Review

Obviously it was disappointing to crash out of the champions league in only the quarter final, losing 5-2 on aggregate. But returning back to the MLS, it had been a good month for us. An added time opening day victory really got the crowd going, and it set the tone for the rest of the month. Big rivals Portland turned up next, but we simply outplayed them and the 2-0 victory was completely right. Next came possible the best game of the season already against Vancouver. As if winning 9-0 wasn't enough, new man Wondolowski scored 7 of them getting his career off to a brilliant start. The rest of the month continued in the winning way, winning 3-1 and 2-1 against Columbus Crew and Chivas USA respectively. If the rest of our season continues this way, no one would stop us.

Player of the season had to be Wondo. Although Eddie had consistently put in the goals, no one will ever forget a 7 goal in one match record. It'll go down as not only a Seattle record, but an MLS one. One that'll be very hard to top.

Obviously, the unbeaten start has left us top of the league. We hoped to stay there.

Thanks for the support (if any)!!
