Schalke manager Lilian Thuram has revealed today that he is utterly disappointed with the clubs performance in pre-season. Speaking to Sky Sports News, Thuram had this to say, "Even though we managed to spring a few good performances late on in pre-season, i still think we could have done better. Obviously the players have got to get used to my tactics, so it was not going to be easy, but even then, i still think that they could have offered a lot more for the club".

Some decent results but not the best

Schalke have today completed the signing of 19 year old Danish striker Andreas Cornelius from FC Kobenhavn for a fee worth up to £2m. Schalke will pay £500k up front, with the other £1.5m being paid in monthly installments over 48 months for Cornelius, who made his Kobenhavn debut in the 11-12 season, where he made two appearances. Prior to signing for Schalke, Cornelius had made 5 appearances in the Danish Superliga, scoring 5 goals which impressed manager Lilian Thuram. The young striker has also made his senior debut for Denmark, which came after he hit 5 goals in 5 games for Kobenhavn. Speaking to German newspaper Die Zeit, Thuram explained the need to sign young Cornelius. "Well, i know i said that my signings were completed for the summer, but i also said that i would only sign additional players in exceptional circumstances, and i felt that we needed some extra fire power up front. The lad is an exceptional talent and i feel that he could become one of the greatest strikers in the Bundesliga".

A value for money signing, he'll really have to step up to the plate for you though.

Jefferson Farfan deserves the clubs player of the month after scoring a goal in each of the matches against Berliner and Bremen. He also managed to grab 3 assists between the two games and performances like this will not go unnoticed and this shows exactly why he is a first teamer.
