Following my meeting with Arséne Wenger, the ladies were in for a huge surprise. Firstly let me talk about the meeting. Due to both of us being very busy men, we had to schedule the meeting during a training session. Both our assistants took charge as we held the meeting in Mr Wenger's office, its quite nice, take a look.
As you can see, his office is a little bit less flashy. Maybe due to his age. During the meeting Arséne opened up to me. He is much wiser than everyone thinks he is. He told me what it was like for him when he first took over at Arsenal. Relatively unknown he was. There was quite a lot of pressure on him to keep up Arsenal's glory and success, a bit like I have had to do.
One of the things he told me that I will never forget is, "people will always criticize you, keep calm, do not reply and just do your job the best you can". As I know how much work he had to do, I didn't want to waste Arséne's time. After he told me a bit about his time as a knew manager at the club, we started talking about tactics and watching various coaching videos. He was more or less a living walkthrough!
As the meeting came to an end, Wenger said he had a surprise for me. He had arranged for Tony Adams to come in and speak to both the Arsenal mens team and ladies team. After the training session, he would speak to each of them, separately. Brilliant! When you think about Adam's playing career at Arsenal, he is truly inspirational. I mean, we're talking about the youngest ever Arsenal captain, the man who made the famous quote " Play for the name on the front, and they'll remember the name on the back".
The Tony Adams talk
Mr.Adams couldn't stay for to long as he had to rush off somewhere, however he spoke with elegance and passion and experience. Here's what he said:
"Hello ladies, I've been asked to talk to you a bit about what it means to play for a club like Arsenal. Well firstly, during my playing career, I wouldn't have left Arsenal for any other team. Once I signed for Arsenal, I signed myself up to a drug, which is Arsenal. You get addicted and it becomes part of you, its impossible to get rid of it. You just want more and more. It came to a point that any time Arsenal put a contract in front of me, without reading it . That's how much I love this club, notice I didn't say "loved". I'm still addicted to that drug called Arsenal FC, if not I wouldn't be here. You are all very lucky to play for such a wonderful club like this one, if my body was still in good shape, and I was able to play, you;d see me training with the lads everyday. The last thing I want to say to you before I leave and the most important thing is... Play for the name on the front, and they'll remember the name on the back! Thank you."
His little speech was very inspiring. It even inspired me and I could see my players were motivated.
This is a great story. The women in it are really good, as a girl myself I thought we deserve a equal chance. We should play together and all this is in this story, Thank you!
I really like this story Seni, I've always wanted to play with girls, glad you kept this going instead of the sequel. Keep up the good work, I will be following
To be perfectly honest with you, this was not the dream start we hard last season, a bit far from it in terms of our standards at the club. Once again, it was a very busy opening month as we played a total of eight fixtures, over three different competitions, in the month of March.
Yes, we played beautiful football, at many times we proved why we are the champions of England. However, when it came to getting the points to our name, we disappointed a bit. Hopefully as time goes on we will improve and get even stronger.
Here is how we did:
Birmingham City Ladies 0-0 Arsenal Ladies Emily Westwood (59) Karen Carney (70) Yvone Tracy
My verdict: I think was a fair result. Birmingham Ladies are a very tough side, that was evident last season. We had 18 shots on goal, which shows we can create chances, even if only 8 of them were on target. In terms of possession it was more or less equal. A good result!
Arsenal Ladies 4-2 Doncaster Rovers Belles Jordan Nobbs (15) Alex Morgan (53,86) Yvone Tracy (90+1) Millie Bright (69,80) Millie Bright (14) Julie Melrose (55) Nicola Emery (60)
My Verdict: In terms of the team performance, we were superb. Much sharper than in our first game, we looked like champions, played like champions! Once again, we had lots of shots but most were off target, more shooting practice must be done on the training ground!
Arsenal Ladies 2-0 Rutgers University Alex Morgan (12) Kim Little (77) Lauren Sesselmann (21) Fiona Mearns (71) Crystal Dunn (89)
My Verdict: When I saw the draw for this game I found it a bit strange that we were drawn to play against Rutgers once again. Nonetheless, I expected a decent performance from the ladies and they delivered. A nice victory. Our discipline seems to have improved, which is good to see.
Arsenal Ladies 1-1 Bristol Academy Leigh Nicol (5) Ellie Curson (17) Niamh Fahey (39) Lauren Haynes (34) Natasha Harding (51)
My Verdict: I must admit, we were very aggressive in this match, sending two of the players off injured. Their manager, Mark Sampson, wasn't too happy and wasn't shy of letting me know how he felt. I just remembered what Arséne told me and stayed calm, its key to set a good example. I felt we should have gotten a bit more from the game.
Arsenal Ladies 0-0 Lincoln Ladies Gilly Flaherty (30) Kim Little (42) Kelly Smith (77) Katie Chapman (89) Emily Harris (72)
My Verdict: Just when I praised the sides discipline, we go and get a total of four yellow cards, FOUR. Not good at all to be honest. Another draw. We can't keep dropping points. We simply can't.
Lincoln Ladies 2-0 Arsenal Ladies Hayley Bowden (23) Lara Fay (30) Steph Houghton (2) Steph Houghton (6) Georgia Mays (49)
My Verdict: Furious, absolutely furious! How do you get two yellow cards in the space of 4 minutes! In the dressing room, I let Steph know I was disappointed in her and she let team down massively.
My Verdict: A bit of an improvement from the last game. I still want us to take our chances better and score more goals.
Arsenal Ladies 3-1 Chelsea Ladies Kim Little (20, pen 28, pen 76) Daniel Buet (78) Rachael Yankey (64) Kylie Davis (67) Drew Spence (57)
Game of the month:
In the league we are currently in 4th place with 8 points after playing five games. I'm hoping in the next month we climb and find a place in the top two, where we belong. Meanwhile in the Continental Cup, which we are in group B with Bristol Academy, Lincoln Ladies and Everton Ladies, we are joint up first.
Hello guys, thanks for all the support I've gotten on this story! I really appreciate it but this story will be on a BREAK for now. I would like to start another story with a mens team and see how I do. Remember this is on a BREAK! Thanks guys
