ARSENAL
Arsenal Football Club is an
English Premier League football club based in Holloway, London. One of the most successful clubs in English football, it has won 13
First Division and
Premier League titles and 10
FA Cups. Arsenal holds the record for the longest uninterrupted period in the English top flight and would be placed first in an aggregated league of the entire 20th century. It is the second side to complete an English top flight season unbeaten (in the 2003–04 season), and the only one to do so across 38 matches.
Squad So Far...
Goalkeeping at
Arsenal is limited, with only 2 serious candidates in both
Polish keepers
Lukasz Fabianski and the better choice of
Wojciech Szczesny. The younger choice is
Argentinian Damián Martínez, who has been linked with a few loan moves to
Championship and
League 1 sides.
Defense choices are very strong for the side, with captain
Thomas Vermaelen being the star centre back, followed by
Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and a younger
Daniel Boateng. The left back options are varied, with new signing
Nacho Monreal being rivalled by the younger, and arguably better,
Kieran Gibbs. The right back options are also varied, with
Bacary Sagna and
Carl Jenkinson contesting for the role. The other 3 youth additions in the defense are
Zachari Fagan, Isaac Hayden and
Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill, while
Johan Djourou and
Ignasi Miquel are both on loan to
Hamburg and
Leicester respectively.
The midfield is the toughest spot to choose, with a maximum of 5 places available in the side at one time. At the moment, the vice-captain is
Mikel Arteta, but that spot could go to any other player at any moment, with
Santi Cazorla the most likely. However, there are more than 2 possible candidates for the centre/attacking midfield space, with
Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and
Tomas Rosicky putting up a great fight, while
Emmanuel Frimpong seems to be surplus to requirements in the
Arsenal. Winger
Ryo Miyaichi will be looking to get another loan deal done before the end of deadline day, after being loan listed by the new manager.
Thomas Eisfield, Serge Gnabry, Jack Jebb, Anthony Jeffrey, Nico Yennaris and
Gedion Zelalem are the
Arsenal players in the youth industry, while
Francis Coquelin is on loan at
Freiburg.
The attack force is full of talented players, such as
Olivier Giroud and
Lukas Podolski. The pair are joined by
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and
Theo Walcott. Back-up options are
Nicklas Bendtner and
Park Chu Young, while new signing
Yaya Sanogo is definitely one for the future. The youth consists of
Benik Afobe, who has almost sealed a loan move to
Portsmouth, Chuba Akpom, Zak Ansah and
Austin Lipman. Olympiacos finalised the loan signing of
Joel Campbell a few days ago, which finished off the striking options.
Who IS The Manager?
William Gallas, born 17th August 1977, played for all three London clubs in his career, before being released by
Tottenham at the end of the 2012-13 season. He recently made the decision to retire from football at the age of 36, and has now taken on the role as
Arsenal manager, after
Arséne Wenger was sacked for a lack of trophies.
Gallas hopes to bring some success to his old club, and put his careers at
Tottenham and
Chelsea behind him.
