What pisses me off is Bayern did not win the league

May report and analysis

It has been a good month for The Rovers. They won 6 out of the 7 matches and were able to keep their spot at the top of the table. The low of the month was when Derry City beat Shamrock 0-4. That was a surprise but they did not seem to mind because the match was played aby backups and reserves. The high point of the month came on the 18th at the Setanta Sports Cup Final against Sligo Rovers. Stephen Rice was the man of the match when he scored two goals to get a 2-1 victory in extra time. Elsewhere in the FAI Cup Second Round SRFC beat the Cobh Ramblers 3-0. Our next report on Shamrock will be at the end of July and will cover both June and July.

An intimate interview with former DC United Head Coach Ben Olsen.

By. Stephen Goff published on June 30, 2913

A few days ago I was able to get a Skype conversation with former United Head Coach Ben Olsen. If you all remember he left United in January to become the manager of Shamrock Rovers. Since he took charge the club has maintained first place since week one and because champions of the Setanta Sports Cup. For those who don't know the SSC is a competition between the top clubs of the League of Ireland and NIFL.

SG: Hey Ben how are you??

BO: Great Stephen. I am loving this club but miss United

SG: What is the main difference between the LoI and MLS?

BO: The main difference is the speed and physicality of the leagues. Here in the LoI many of the clubs have been playing slow possession soccer.

SG: Since the transfer window opens in a few days do you have any new signings ready to come in?

BO: Yes I have a few players I was able to add on a free transfer. Stay tuned to see who we add!

SG: How many more trophies can you win this year??

BO: If we keep up the hard work I can honestly say all of them!!

SG: Are there any clubs in Europe outside of the major clubs that you would want to manage someday? If so who?

BO: A few I have in mind include Bolton (SkyBet League 1), Hertha Berlin (Bundesliga) and Paris FC (Ligue 2). Now for any Rovers fans reading this please don't see I am trying to leave I am just stating clubs I find interesting.

SG: What has been your favorite part of Ireland so far?

BO: The whole experience is just amazing. I am happy to be here and during my off time I do so sightseeing.

SG: Last question. Do you think you will be back coaching in MLS and possibly DC?

BO: Yes someday I will be back but right now I would like to continue my career here in Europe.

SG: Well that is all from my talk with Ben Olsen. Hopefully I will be able to talk with him when their season ends.
Hey guys sorry for no new updates. I have been away all day today!

June/July Update

The last two months have been interesting to say the least. June was a very short month due to only playing 3 matches. During this two month run the green and white ended up winning seven of nine contest. The other two were a draw and a loss. Also during this time SRFC welcomed four new players in the squad. More in depth coverage of the 2013 Summer Transfer Window will be on our website in the beginning of September. For such a good last two months The Rovers have been dealt with a possible blow to their season. Superstar Striker Mark Quigley (19 League Goals) suffered a torn hamstring on 16/7/2013 in a match against Cork City. Head Physio Willie Conlon expects Mark to be at full fitness by November. Sadly this means Mark will not be playing the rest of the season.

Player of Month(s)
Striker Mark Quigley has won his third player of the month award netting 9 goals in the two months. His best performance came against Second Place Sligo Rovers where he scored four goals.

So today I am going to go to the board to see if I can get a contract extension because I have a few weeks left. I am hoping things will workout and I get an extension.

BO: Mr. Roche may I please have a word with you?

JR: Yes Ben what is it?

BO; Well as you know I signed a one year contract with this club and I was wondering if I can maybe get an extension?

JR: Nope!!

BO: But why?? I have done many good things for the club since taking over.

JR: We need to see more out of you before we can extend your contract.

BO: Are you serious I have won the SSC, I am off to the finals of the LoI Cup, in the quarters of the FAI and on top of the league by 10 points.

JR: The answer is still no. Please get out before I change my mind and terminate your contract.

BO: Ok then sorry to be a bother.

Hmm, this is weird I say to myself. Why will he not give me an extension? This really hurts me because the whole Rovers community has rallied around me and have helped me transition from my life in America. Well if he still does not give me an extension by Mid October I am leaving this club. If you can't work with management to succeed why even bother? Mr. Roache has given me trouble in the past by not helping with wage or transfer money.

Month in Review August edition: SRFC

The rovers had another successful month here in 2013. They did not loose in any of the six matches and were able to advance to the League of Ireland Cup final as well as the FAI Cup quarter final. Even with this great month they suffered a whole bunch of injuries. The transfer window has officially closed and SRFC was able to add four players. All were signed on free transfers. Also Rovers coach Ben Olsen won LoI Manager of the month. With six league matches left the Rovers are looking to add their first league title since they last won in 2011.

Player of the Month Benedikt Schmidt with a total of 7 goals. He has done a tremendous job since Mark Quigley got injured.

Match Report
What a great day for Rovers Fans all around the world. Tommy Stewart delivered a performance that was worthy of giving him the Man of the Match. Cork City gave Shamrock a a scare early on when Denis Behand converted a penalty. Later on they scored their second goal a minute away from stoppage time. That was not enough though Olsen's Army was able to prevent another close goal. This is Ben Olsen's second trophy as Manager of the club.

Club Announcement

Is your kid a big Shamrock Rovers fan?? If so you can bring Hooperman to their birthday party!! Details below.

Month in Review September edition:SRFC

What can you say about Shamrock's September? Not much honestly. It was a down month for the club in league play where they did not win any matches. There were two highlights of the month though. Both came in cup competitions. On the 13th Shamrock beat Limerick 1-0 and will advance to the FAI Cup Semi Finals against St. Pat's. The other major match came on the 21st against Cork City in the Ea Sports League of Ireland Cup Final. The Rovers won an epic match by the score of 3-2. We are entering the final month of competition in league play and Shamrock still looks strong enough to win the league.

Player of the Month: Tommy Stewart with 3 goals.

Breaking News

Club doctors have confirmed that star striker Mark Quigley is back training with the first team. This news should put a smile on everyone's faces and an enormous lift to the spirit of the squad. Quigley has been out since July with a torn hamstring.

Month in Review October edition: SRFC

The month of October was a very poor month once again for Shamrock. Out of the three remaining league matches they did not win a single one. Coach Olsen said that the lack of depth was the cause of the poor run in the last two months. He blames Johnathan Roache the Chairman of the club for the lack of transfer funds. Will there be more drama between manager and chairman?? Olsen's contract runs out at the end of November.

On the positive side of things Olsen lead the club to another final. On October 10th Shamrock beat St. Pat's by a score of 2-1 and will be facing Derry City in the FAI Cup final November 3rd at The Aviva Stadium. Tickets are on sale for as low as € 15.

Finally the best news for Rovers faithful was that striker Mark Quigley resumed training in the club. He played in the remaining three games and looked good.

Our staff believes that no player on the club deserves a player of the month mention.

The Next edition of the RTE League of Ireland review will be available in the next week.
