Breaking News

It has been confirmed that today 18/3/2014 Defender Lewis Toshney is suspended by the club. Director of Football Oliver Kahn announced that Lewis will be suspended until the first of April and will have to pay a € 500 fine. This is all from the meeting between him and Ben about his lack of discipline on the pitch. You can see what happened on the latest episode of The Rover Files. Lewis Toshney was not available to comment on the situation. Toshney came to SRFC in a transfer from Celtic FC earlier this season.

Ben's Blog

March 22, 2014

Hello to all of you reading this blog post. This month has been very interesting for the club. We started off on a not so bright foot but are starting to get things back in order. For this months entry I would like to talk about some of the games this season and a few other orders of business.

Our first match was on the last day of February when Dundalk came to town. Now we were ready to play and felt a victory could be ours. Sadly we lost the game because of Lewis Toshney committing a foul inside the box. The next notable match I want to discuss is our 5-4 victory over Limerick. Toshney once again screwed up causing us to almost get beat. Thankfully Mark Quigley was on fire that day scoring four goals. The final match(s) I would like to discuss come from the Quarter Final of the SSC. Playing Linfield was interesting. In the first leg we tied them. It could have been a 1-0 victory but once again Lewis screwed up. Luckily in the second leg at Linfield we won 2-0. Next moth we face the last remaining Northern Irish Club Coleraine.

As you all see there was the problem of Lewis Toshney. He is a good player and all but those three penalties inside the box three games in a row is just inexcusable since he is a professional player. Now at first I thought he was just nervous or just made a dumb mistake but after the third time we needed to talk. I felt I needed to talk with him about being dropped from the line up against Linfield. Sadly Lewis did not take it that well and became extremely unprofessional. After a few words were exchanged he was excused from the ground and is serving a suspension until the end of the month. I will let you all know if things get resolved.

See you all in a month!!

p.s. I will be responding to your questions and comments on this blog!!

Month in Review March Edition: SRFC

it has been an interesting month on and off the pitch for The Rovers. Now we are not going to talk about the Toshney incident because it has been reported enough. The Rovers did start off the season with a 2-3 loss against Dundalk and finished up March strong with a 3-2 vitory over Sligo Rovers. With that SRFC are second league with 15 points. In the Setanta Sports Cup Shamrock will advance to the Semi-Finals against NI Club Coleraine. Our pick for Player of the Month was Captain Ken Oman he scored a total of five goals in all competitions. Five goals in a month for a defended is something special and that is why we choose Ken. Also Manager Ben Olsen scoops up the Manager of the Month Award.

Irish league is EXTREMELY harsh, whether you are one of the biggest clubs or the smallest. Transfers and fitness is hard. I made a story with Bray some months back, it was hard, but once you get the hang of it, it grows on you. Good luck with the league!

The Rover Files
Welcome to today's edition of The Rover Files. Lots of interesting things to cover since we last were able to show you what was going on. SRFC has been doing very well in the past month and have not lost a game. For this months episode we will be going inside with the rovers as they play in the second leg of the Setanta Sports Cup vs Coleraine.

It was the morning of the 15th and all the players were at the training ground. Our match was two hours away in Coleraine, Northern Ireland that evening. The Rovers coaching staff wanted a quick morning walk through. Ken comes up to me and asks. "Coach what would you like me to lead with today?" That right there put a smile on my face. "I choose Ken as Captain earlier in the season because he was tremendous potential in a management role when he retires from playing." Olsen said "get the guys around for a quick mile jog at the track." So after the light jog we went to the pitch and worked a few quick drills. We even used the U-19 Squad to act as the scout team on set pieces. So the walk through was finished. We went to the cafeteria for sub sandwiches.

After lunch Ben tells the boys we have an hour until departure and to get things ready, "if you need to see the trainer I suggest you go now". During this time I get my things ready and am ready to go. It is now time for us to depart. The trip will take just under three hours.

It is about 30' to kickoff. After warmups on the field we head back into the locker room. I go to the center of the room to give the pre match pep talk.
BO: Today we can beat these guys if we keep our heads in the game and play good physical football.
BO: I don't care if we win by a goal I just want the victory. Ken can you please address the club.
KO: Yes coach
KO: Ok boys lets go out there and get the win. I have a feeling something grad is about to happen and we can do it!!

Match
1' Coleraine kick the match off
4' Berthomier takes the free kick and the ball goes to Quigley....... Quigley heads the ball and just like that SRFC lead 1-0
17' Chambers is set to line up the corner. He goes ball is hit to Oman and he heads it in for the second goal. SRFC lead 2-0. Can Coleraine salvage this victory
45' It is the end of the half and Shamrock Rovers lead Coleraine 2-0
46' SRFC kicks off the second half.
46' The Hoops line up for a free kick. Chambers steps up and scores!! It is now 3-0 can you believe it.
83' Timmy Adamson makes a nice move around two defenders...GOAL!! Coleraine
85' Cairn Harper strikes from long distance...GOAL Coleraine is now down by one!! Can Shamrock survive this comeback??
90' Game over SRFC wins the second leg of the SSC and will now advance to the final!!!

The Rovers are back to the SSC Final!!!! What an amazing match.
We now go to the post match press conference of Ben Olsen.

J: Congratulations on making your second SSC Final. How does it feel?
BO: It is great we were prepared and were able to complete all major objectives I had for the match
J: Can you win this?
BO: yes we can as long as we do what we have been doing.
J: Who was the man of the match in your opinion?
BO: Hmm, I really can't say one player it was a true team effort.
J: Thanks Ben have a good evening.

Fans we are sorry we were not able to get this months Five-A-Sides with Oliver Khan due to his busy schedule.

Month in review April Edition: SRFC

What another amazing month for The Rovers!! They did not loose a single game. The highlight of the month came in the second leg of the Setanta Sports Cup Semi Final against Coleraine. The Rovers won the match 2-3 and were able to advance on an aggregate score of 2-3. Next month they will be facing Sligo Rovers in the championship match. With the month of May football brings change. There are strong rumors that Manager Ben Olsen might be with a different club by the time July comes. He has told the media that he wants to stay for the whole season but you never know. Manager Ben Olsen picked up his second Manager of the Month Award. No Rovers player was named League Player of the Month but if we had to pick our editors think it would be Rory Patterson.

Really well writen updates and good results m8 :)

Congratulations on 500 views, 1000 should come quick enough ;)

Shamrock Rovers seek consecutive Setanta Sports Cup Final Wins.
Two Time SSC winners Shamrock Rovers head into Saturday's final against Sligo Rovers looking to lift the trophy for the second time in a row.

Should they return with the trophy yet again, the team will no doubtt look at their tremendous victory over SSC quarter-finalist Linfield on March 18th as perhaps the defining moment in their glorious cup run.

If they win today Rovers Manager Ben Olsen will obtain his fifth trophy as a manager.

Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers will be appearing in only their second SSC Final since the competition began in 2005.

Post match recap and analysis
What an amazing match today here in the SSC final. Shamrock Rovers were the better team today and never looked like they would never miss a beat. Julien Berthomier is your man of the match. After the match we caught up with Manager Ben Olsen and this is what he had to say. "man this feels good winning again our team looked the strongest it has all season." Not many words from a very media friendly guy but we don't blame him it is time to celebrate!!

Man of the Match: Julien Berthomier

The Final Score: Sligo Rovers 1-3 Shamrock Rovers
Great stuff! Berthomier is really a player that really doesn't deserve to be in that league! Loved the U-19 update, I loved it.

Shamrock Rovers have just signed Northern Irish international Paddy McCourt on a free transfer.

McCourt,30, has joined the club from English side Barnsley

The signing of McCourt will be a big boost to the players and the fans. While playing at Celtic McCourt was a fan favourite and his fans were known as Paddy McCourt's Fenian Army. We welcome the army to SRFC!!
