Tottenham Pasch through the first leg with ease
The Europa League play-offs began today, and Tottenham played host to Austrian club FC Pasching, three days after drawing at Swansea City. It was an eventful day at White Hart Lane, filled with controversy.http://images.dailystar-uk.co.uk/dynamic/58/photos/456000/620x/5456.jpg
The team played in this easy-looking tie was Hugo Lloris - Kyle Naughton, Vlad Chiriches, Michael Dawson, Zeki Fryers - Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen, Gylfi Sigurdsson - Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli - Roberto Soldado. After some controversial decisions in the first half, the first goal came in the 44th minute from Roberto Soldado, but his job wasn't yet over. After Pasching player Sencer Picher was booked, Jan Vertonghen doubled the lead from the aftermath in the 50th minute. A controversial decision followed, as Tottenham were awarded a penalty for a foul on Roberto Soldado, the taker, and eventual scorer in the 58th minute. More penalties came, as Erik Lamela was brought down in the box just 10 minutes later. Soldado took again - and scored to make the final score 4-0.
If the message wasn't received in that match report, the man of the match by far was Spanish superstar Soldado, who grabbed a hat trick, two of which were penalties, as well as an outstanding rating of 9.4 for the match.
New signing Erik Lamela spoke after the match, saying...
"That was a great game, especially great for my full professional début with Tottenham Hotspur, I club I hope to stay with for a long time in the future. It's looking good for the future, a 4-0 at home to one of the top Austrian sides is something we can push forward from. We didn't play our absolute strongest side, as we didn't play our strongest formation, but it's proof that we're one of the top rising sides in the world."
Other teams to win the first leg were Kuban, Swansea City and Feyenoord, while Sevilla, Spartak Moscow and Rosenborg all suffered defeats.
