Hajduk Sign Schipplock

Hajduk Split have completed their first signing under new manager Niko Kovac after confirming the loan of 24-year-old striker Sven Shipplock from German side Hoffenheim until the end of the season. This ends Kovac's worries about the lack of a quality striker in the side, after he mentioned that this was a key area that he needed to strengthen.

Kovac has barely been in the job a week, but has set about creating a side capable of challenging Dinamo for the title this season. He has very little money in terms of transfer funds to work with, so was always going to be looking towards the loan market for any new signings, and that is where this new signing has come from. Shipplock was both transfer and loan listed by Hoffenheim, and was waiting to be snapped up by a new club.

One of the earliest things Kovac did at his new club was to state his interest in signing Shipplock on loan, but the German definitivly denied any interest in joining Hajduk, especially on loan in response to Kovac's comments. However it appears a dramatic U-turn has been made in the striker's mind, as he has sealed the move with his signature.

One of the key aspects in making Shipplock want to sign for the Split club on loan is the £1.2m future fee included in the deal, meaning Hajduk will have any offer of £1.2m accepted during the loan spell. Shipplock will be hoping that his loan spell with the Croatian club will go will to hopefully lead to further permanent interest from Hajduk, or maybe other clubs around Europe, to seal a permanent move away from Hoffenheim and the Bundesliga.

In this deal, Hajduk will be paying £1.2k per week of Schipplock's wage during his loan spell, along with an £18k monthly fee. Given Hajduk's current financial situation, even paying this much money is a strain on the finances, and we can't be expecting too much more business coming into the club without some outgoing transfers first.

Hajduk Split have announced they are to being monthly repayments towards their £6.5 million debt after just days of being under new manager Niko Kovac. This development has been rumoured since Kovac took the job, as it was one of the things he talked about in his first press interview. He will obviously be keen to reduce the massive debt that Hajduk possess, meaning that they will be able to start developing further as a club.

These monthly repayments are expected to start at the end of the month, and will consist of £550k p/m payments back towards the bank loan, meaning the debt is predicted to be fully repayed on the 30th July next year. After this point Hajduk can start rebuilding, and possibly start to challenge for European honours within a few seasons.

This will also give a boost to the club ahead of the upcoming Croatian season, in which they aim to get the monkey off their backs of having not won the title in years under the new manager Kovac, who has already hinted that he plans to start building up the club to the best that it can be within a few years, and they need to start by ridding the club of this debt worth more than the club itself. It is widely believed that Kovac is the right man to bring around this change at Hajduk, and take them to never-before-seen glories.

Speaking in the press conference with club chairman Marin Brbić, Kovac said "it's great for me to be able to announce that we're starting to curb the debt, so we can finally move on from this, and start to move into a new chapter at the club. It'll take a couple of seasons to really get the finances going, but once we've got the ball rolling we can really start to advance and move towards better times than this club has seen in a long, long time, and that is what Hajduk deserves. Once we get this debt cleared, and our balance up, the good times can roll!"
