FM 2012 Tactics - 4-2-2-2 Wonder Tactic
I have been playing around with my favourite formation 4-2-2-2 and have found a set up that really works. I was playing with Newcastle and was into my 3rd season when my save game corrupted. I came 3rd and then 2nd in my two seasons and was 1point ahead of City at Xmas until my game corrupted.

I have started 2 new games. One was with Barca, I played 2 games in the Super Cup against Real Madrid and won 9-3 over the 2 legs with this tactic. I stopped with that as it is way too easy and not a challenge. I have stated a new game with Napoli and have a 100% record in the league after 9 games, scoring 35 goals and conceding only 5.

UPDATE:

And here is the end to my 1st season:

Try it. It works great. Best and most consistant tactic I've made in the 6-7 years I've been playing FM.

Let me know how you get on. And any tweaks you make.

Thanks for coming back so soon - that post helps alot when it comes for looking for the right players.

In my first season I had Gekas as the TM and he was up and down, still good though.

Just in my close season before my 2nd season now - managed to get Sturridge from Chelsea and Macheda from Man Utd - will play Sturridge as AF and Macheda as TM.

What would help (if you had time) would be to list the 5 most important attributes for each position (as you see it) and add it to your OP so people using the tactic can see what people to go for to try and replicate this as much as possible!

    Thanks again...

@ Ireland - I used the biggest pitch available. Means there is more space to play balls in behind, or pass the other team to death.

@mikedodgeson - yes the target man runs on to the ball and is usually left one on one with the keeper or plays his striking fellow in. From the teams I've played with someone who is strong and has decent acceleration 14+ is good. Composure is important as he will be 1 on 1 alot. The best striker I have had was a guy called Rondon after 2 season with Newcastle. Score over a goal a game. Yaya Sanogo is a player who grows to be prime in this role. Small quick strikers are not so good. Other players I have used in various save games with great success are: Leandro Damiao, Cavani, Tevez and Evans from Sheff Utd (current game).

The guys with the best work rate and team work seem to bag the goals. I found these attributes outweighed the 'technical' attributes when it comes to return on goals.

Ive started using the 2nd striker as a Terquista which is working well as he finds space and plays the other striker in or beats the man. Had sturride on loan at sheff utd and he worked exceptionally well there. Shame I havent got him anymore!

Well done on what looks like an awesome tactic!

Do you play your poacher style striker as the target Man? I noticed that his passes to him are set to run onto ball?

If you could give me a guide as to what kind of stikers to go for, any important attributes needed... that would be a huge help!

Wow! This tactic is simply amazing bro i just used this one yesterday to try it cause i`m having difficulties with my team scoring goals lately and true to what others say my southampton team won against wigan 5-0. I`m currenty in 5 game winning streak with an average goals of 3 per game my latest victim is the most expensive squad ever assembled in my saved game the Manchester City squad w/ the likes of Hamsik, Eden Hazard and Luka Modric in their squad alongside nasri and silva on the bench we still won 5-2 my southampton team is currently 4th in premiership. Thanks for this tactic i may have a chance of qualifying for Euro Cup or even Champions League for the 1st time. Cheers! :D

@aspence78 - i use normal, not fluid and control not attack. Fluid works well against weak teams but not equal or better. Control is good for most games, if your stuggling to score - bump it up to attacking for 10mins. Usually works.

i used it was losing games playing fluidly and attacking mentality

@metalef0 - glad your having success! I have just finished season 1 with Napoli. I won the league with 105points! Scoring 120 and conceding only 26. Cavani scored 36 goals in the league. Lavezzi scored 22. Both assisting eachother loads. I also won the Cup and am in the final of the Champions League vs Madrid. Need to see how that goes although I think I may get beaten.

Ok got it! So far, with Juventus, I'm showing an incredible form - 13 matches, 13 wins, 30 goals scored and only 1 conceded. I already played against Roma, Napoli and AC Milan without conceding, the only goal came from a penalty against Atalanta. This tactic is doing absolute wonders!

I dont tend to use sideline shout. I just select different single shouts depending on how the games is going. Home and away I dont change the initial tactic but I revert to Counter or Standard (I start with Control). Underdog I find it is easy to get the players up for it by passionatley 'Having Faith'. Depending how much of an underdog I will play standard or Counter and then if 0-0 with 5 or so minutes to go I will attack for the last 5 minutes of the half/game - works well. If you score against an equal or better team, drop down a level of attacking. I.e. control to standard or even counter - especially late in the game. It takes a few games for the team to get used to the tactic. I am still unbeaten in the league. On the 1st of Feb now. 3 draws and the rest wins. Been beaten by Chelsea (see above) and narrow 2-1 away from home against Villareal but had already secured top spot in the group hence a weakened team.

Nice tactic, I'm trying it with Juventus and after some matches it's performing fairly well. I have some questions: do you use any opposition instruction or sideline shout? Do you make any fix for home/away matches or matches where you are the underdog? So far I've been using the stock tactic, just raising the attack level if I have difficulties scoring, and without using any OI or SS. What's your opinion? Thanks!

NO ... when i did it .. still i cabnt see tactic :/
  • rwoh123@aol.com's avatar
You need to put it in the file on this path:

    C:\Users\Your-username\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012

Then it should be under archived tactics when you load a tactic in the game.

Hi tactic looks very nice but when i download it and move it to "tactics" i cant find it in game :/ can you help me? :)
  • rwoh123@aol.com's avatar
Yea I've used the formation for ages. It's the player and team instructions I've been tinkering with. I'll add that it's important when playing the top teams to drop the back line a little bit.
