How to install Audio Commentary on FM16

1. Exit FM16 Completely

2. Backup your "events" & "sounds" folders
\steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2016\data\events\
\steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2016\data\sounds\

Simply copy these folders to somewhere else out of the FM16 installation directory, so if something goes wrong we can restore them.
Once backup is made, delete the "sounds" folder.

3. Apply Patch
Move the extracted folders "events" and "sounds" to:
\steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2016\data\

You will be asked to merge / overwrite some files and folders, click OK/YES to confirm.
You have a backup of those from the previous step so nothing to worry about.

4. Delete Events Files In Updates Directory
No need to touch "events" files in "updates" directory, but in case any odd thing happen, it's recommended to delete them.

Backup first of course. Make a copy of the "events" folder within all "update-16XX" directories:
\steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2016\data\updates\update-1601\events\
\steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2016\data\updates\update-1610\events\
\steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2016\data\updates\update-1611\events\
and so on... to somewhere out of the FM16 installation directory.

Then delete all files within. It will be either 1 or 2 files: "match_events.xml" and/or "match_sounds.cfg".

5. In-Game Preferences
Start FM16 and go to "Preferences > Match" tab.
Make sure that "Use sound in match" is ticked and "Volume" slide is high enough.

Then go to "Preferences > Interface" tab.
Click the "Clear Cache" button.
Enable "Reload skin when confirming changes in Preferences".
Click the "Reload Skin" button.

That's it. Jump into matches and enjoy!

Known Issues

Sometimes more than one audio commentaries might come out together, sadly there's no way to fix that.

@coastport: The download link works fine for me. When you are at the mega.nz website, click on the "Download through your browser" option.

@carl_vdb: I think I'll just edit the 4th step to say "delete" instead of "delete if it doesn't work" to be sure.

Sports Interactive ----- Football Manager (in this case 2016)----STEAM----steamapps----common----Football Manager (in this case 2016)-----data----- (here I cut the 'events' and 'sounds' folders to a save place, elsewhere on my pc so both folders are empty)-----in this very same row of folders you can notice 'updates'----click on that----and on every "update-16" you click---- here you see 'events' and 'sounds' again. ---- The files in the "event-folders" get rid of them or back'm up if you're not sure----once done with that, you go back to the commentary pack-download and copy and paste the whole shebang where you cut out the original sound and event folders and as above described you will be asked to overwrite some folders ( these are the maps). I never put them in 'updates'. It's possible but that never worked for me.

I hope that helps out a little. If you're not sure, please wait for a video. It can be frustrating the first time.

    Cheers.

@reeddude1: If you are on Windows, it should be here:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\

Where would this steam folder be located?

@decham19: I suppose it means "only delete them if the audio patch is not working for you".

@DAZS8: That (copying the files within update folders too) seems unnecessary to me. Is it really required or possibly the 4th step is sufficient?

I'll get someone to create a video tutorial for this soon. Hopefully the instructions will be easier for most people to follow if they're watching someone else doing these steps.

im confused by step 4 do i delete or not ?

    4. Delete Events Files In Updates Directory
No need to touch "events" files in "updates" directory, but in case any odd thing happen, it's recommended to delete them.

You need to install Events & Sounds into the latest Update folder too.
So put into the Events and Sounds folders in the Update 16.1.1

TheFIFAPope@ Make sure you get rid of all the "events.cfg's" in the update folders ( back 'm up ) It should work just fine.

    Didn't work for me :(

Please note After backing up your "default" sound folder you must also DELETE it then install the modified default folder as some sounds have been removed and simply overwriting will leave the the deleted sounds in place and the improvement will be lost.
