I used this tactic after releasing v24.2 in the 3rd season of the save I played with Aston Villa and got good results.
I wondered whether it would work in Aston Villa's first season without transfers, so I tried it in the holiday test.All results below are from the holiday save without transfer.

We won 3 of the 4 cups we could have won, but lost 1 in the final. The league title decided to the last week. City's defeat and Liverpool draw brought us the title.






While the tactic requires strong wing play and decent rotation, SS and AF bear the burden of scoring.

If you do not have much confidence in your defense or the attacking abilities of your WBs, you can change their roles from attack to automatic. Unlike me, if your SS and AF duo are effective in heading, it may be more efficient to use mix the crossing option.
When you need to score, you can activate the play for set pieces and be more expressive.
