FM 2020 Fantasy Scenarios - [FM20] UEFA Revival 1.5
Hi all! Back again with the UEFA Revival project for FM2020. As always there are tons of options, as well as more that I have planned but haven't been able to implement yet.

This is a project dating back to Football Manager 2013. It originally started out solely as a throwback to the 1999-2003 format of the UEFA Champions League, which contained 2 group stages, and has since progressed into a fully customized structure where I've managed to find room to bring back the UEFA Intertoto Cup & the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. There are now 50 separate UEFA files this year, in addition to the UEFA Youth League revamp and the other continent files so there is plenty of choice for everyone.

- There are various different formats for the UEFA Champions League. Whether you prefer the older, straight knockout system with fewer teams and nations involved, the 1991-93 version which consisted of a group stage for the final 8 teams, the 1997-1999 format with the top nations allocating 2 teams each, the 1999-2003 version which featured a second group stage for the final 16, or the current system with 1 group stage followed by the knockout rounds - it's all included here.

- If you're someone who prefers the UEFA Cup over the UEFA Europa League, that's in here too - again in various formats. There's the old straight knockout format from the 1990's, or the 2004-2009 format of a five-team group stage before the knockout stages. Alternatively if you'd prefer to continue on with the UEFA Europa League, there are a number of choices for this. In addition to the current format, a 2 group-phase format has been included to mirror the 1999-2003 UEFA Champions League, as well as the older streamlined qualifying stages.

- The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup returns and includes 3 different formats, accomodating 32 nations or 54. Again, it's your choice. As an alternative to the Cup Winners' Cup, the recently announced UEFA Europa Conference League has been included (and can be played from the 2019-20 season). Should the domestic cup winner and runner-up both qualify for continental competition, the place will go to the next highest-placed team in the league.

- Tired of dragging through those friendlies during pre-season? The UEFA Intertoto Cup is included in all files and while it can not only offer some valuable competitive game time for your squad, there are payouts in each round, along with the chance to qualify for either the UEFA Cup, UEFA Europa League, or the UEFA Europa Conference League, depending on which file you choose. The competition has a number of formats dating back to the 1990's, and up to 3 teams can qualify for higher competition. Intertoto Cup qualification is determined via league position.

- Should you decide you'd like to change things up, the UEFA Super Cup comes with a brand new option of playing with 4 teams in a pre-season tournament. This will consist of the winner of each UEFA competition. There is also an alternative where the UEFA Champions League runner-up will be included. The current format is also included should you prefer to keep things as they are.

- The FIFA Club World Cup is now available with a format loosely based on the planned expansion in 2021. From June of 2019, 20 teams will compete in a Group Stage, with the top 2 teams in each group progressing to the knockout stages. This competition will take place every 2 years instead of every 4. As of now it is not compatible with the CONCACAF-CONMEBOL merger.

- The CONCACAF and CONMEBOL merger into a 51-nation structure is back this year, featuring 5 competitions for teams to compete which mirror the UEFA style. This comes complete with custom graphics.

- Additionally, the AFC Champions League is back as a separate option, and uses the same 2 group stage format as the 1999-2003 UEFA Champions League. The AFC Cup also mirrors the 2004-2009 UEFA Cup format of 5 teams playing 1 round of matches in the group stage. You then have the AFC Super Cup which features the winner of each competition.

- Transfer-365 allows you to buy/sell/loan players at any time throughout the calendar year. There are no more transfer window limitations in place, which could be a real game-changer depending on who you decide to manage. As of now this includes 34 UEFA nations that are available in the default database..

- All of this comes with a detailed file guide to help you decide which file you'd like to begin your save with.

05/06/2020 - Version 1.5

- All files updated for compatibility with 20.4 database
- Transfer-365 now added. 34 UEFA nations are available, allowing you to sign and register players any day of the year

(alts for files 16,23,26,27,28,29,32,33,36,39,48)
- 2 additional alternate files added, which now include the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup as an addition for files 28 and 29 (files 41 & 42)
- The alternate to file 36 (file 37) now includes an accurate 24-team Group Stage for the 1997-1999 format of the UEFA Champions League
(The 2 best runner-up teams in the Group Stage will also qualify for the Quarter Final)
- Corrected a UEFA Europa League history error in all files
- Corrected a UEFA Cup error in UEFA file 30

20/01/2020 - Version 1.1

- Maximum squad player age limit of 21 added to the UEFA Youth League
- Various other settings updated for all competitions
- File guide updated

23/12/2019 - Version 1.0

- New graphics included for the CONCACAF-CONMEBOL competitions.
- Adjusted fixtures in all 27 UEFA files in order to avoid domestic cup clashes

23/12/2019 - 2nd Update

- Updated UEFA Cup history

If necessary, make sure to back up your original confederations logos and then drop the files from each folder into the corresponding locations:

Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2020 > editor data
Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2020 > graphics > pictures > trophies
Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2020 > graphics > pictures > logos > confeds > normal

Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2020 > graphics > pictures > logos > competitions > small
Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2020 > graphics > pictures > backgrounds > competitions

- As of the 4.0 update, these files aren't compatible with real fixtures/results.

- With the exception of the AFC, CONCACAF-CONMEBOL and UEFA Youth League files, only use 1 of the UEFA Revival files when starting a new game. I've made 50 different UEFA files available for download (along with a file guide) in order to give you as many options as possible as to which format/competitions you'd like to use.

- If the UEFA Cup or CONCACAF-CONMEBOL graphics don't show up in your game, go to Preferences and make sure the "Show unique ID's to assist skinning" box is ticked, as well as "Reload skin on confirm". Then simply add a line of code in each config file for the UEFA Cup graphics, and rename the corresponding graphics to the new ID number.

- You should now be able to register squads for continental cup games at any time throughout the season

- If you are starting a new game and controlling a team that is competing in the UEFA Intertoto Cup or the FIFA Club World Cup, you're going to need to start your game before June 15th. Activating France as a playable nation will allow you to do this.

- The nation rankings are slightly customized to allocate qualification spots, so a couple of nations have been moved up/down in the rankings for personal preference. You can however change the order in your editor ahead of starting a new game if you wish. I would highly recommend not changing the nation rankings if you intend to use the UEFA Youth League, as it could cause errors.

- If your game is displaying the default names for the competitions (i.e. Champions Cup or EURO VASE etc), try downloading the 'Susie Real Names Fix' from the following link:

Alternatively, you can load the desired file up in the editor and rename the competitions in your database if need be.

I'd like to give thanks to those who have helped me out massively when it came to getting this file off the ground

@pratik11sep: Did you use the CONCACAF-CONMEBOL merger with it? I haven't been able to get that to work with it yet so that may have caused an issue, but I'm not sure what would be preventing you from proceeding to the match. Is there no message explaining why?
  • pratik11sep's avatar
Hi , yesterday I started a game with one worldcup club A file with rest all a file and UEFA file 28. Now when i came to the first club world cup game - in schedule the game is not visible. And also I am not able to proceed when I have the Team selection screen. Nothing is happening properly in club world cup - so my save game is now of no use. Any to use all your tournament files.

@blackmamba9203: Cheers. Glad to hear everything is running OK aside from that.

I think the easiest work-around would be giving the 2022 World Cup to another nation in the editor, but then I'm not sure if the schedule is hard-coded or not.
  • blackmamba9203's avatar
Noticed one issue...2022 due to World Cup in middle of season, the Uefa cup & champions league games take place right in the middle of the World Cup (matches on Dec 1 and Dec 8) meanwhile World Cup takes place Mid-November until Late December.

Otherwise, everything looks to be working as it should. Thanks for making this work - enjoying it.

@blackmamba9203: Yeah, everything is set out as it should be. The team distribution is about as accurate as I could get it without including any domestic cup winners or anything like that. The only thing is the first qualifying round goes from nations 17-47. 17-48 would have been one too many. Albania are nation 36 and they're excluded, but can be added back by removing nation 47 and making nation 46 the last one.

The nation rankings may need to be re-arranged a bit in the editor though for you to get them exactly how you want them. I pretty much left the rankings the same in each file, which are slightly customized for my own personal preference. Liechtenstein aren't included in the ranking list either so there are 54 nations in total.
  • blackmamba9203's avatar
Also mate just so we try to get it as close to perfect as possible, are you thinking of making qualification the same as that 97 range? Here is how wikipedia breaks it down:

55 teams entered the competition: the national champions of each of the top 48 nations in the UEFA coefficient rankings (except Liechtenstein and Albania), plus the runners-up from each of the top eight nations and UEFA Champions League holders, Borussia Dortmund. The national champions of the associations ranked 1–7 (Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and England), plus the title holders, all received a bye to the group stage, while the national champions of the associations ranked 8–16 and the runners-up of the associations ranked 1–8 all entered in the second qualifying round. The remaining national champions from the associations ranked 17–48 entered in the first qualifying round.–98_UEFA_Champions_League#Teams

awesome - thank you. are you thinking of adding this format to the other cup winners cup / Uefa cup formats of that range for the file?

@blackmamba9203: Yeah I got the 24-team version working, and you can even check to see the standings of all the second placed teams from the Group Stage on their own page in the stage drop down menu. The 2 best runner-up sides will qualify for the Quarter Final along with each group winner.

Update will be coming this Friday :)

    @blackmamba9203: Yeah if the 24-team version doesn't work I'll look into a 16-team version.
  • blackmamba9203's avatar
Carlito, file 32 is pretty much what I was referring to in last comment. its a 16 team group stage - but has one per nation instead of two. If possible to create the 2 per nation limit, would be great appreciated.
  • blackmamba9203's avatar
Carlito, if the real 97-99 is not possible, I would really appreciate a version that has 16 teams with top 2 per nation. I dont think this was ever a format, but is the closest thing to the 24 with 2 per nation. Format could be 4 groups, top 2 per group advance into knockout.

@blackmamba9203: That was the issue I was running into with 24 teams - I wasn't sure how to set it so that the 2 best runner-up teams would qualify. I'll look into it though and see what I can do for the next update.

I agree by the way, it was a great era for football!
  • blackmamba9203's avatar
Carlito, would it be possible to create the official 97-99 version with the 24 team group stage? I believe its capped at 2 teams per nation and the format was:

6 groups: 6 group winners + 2 best runner ups advance to the knockout phase.

Quarantine has me reminiscing and wanting to relive the best days of European football–98_UEFA_Champions_League

(just to add to this - knockout phase would have no restrictions on playing same nation, however the group phase does of course)
  • Carlito_85's avatar

@blackmamba9203: Yeah, file 32 is the 1995-96 format, where one team from each of the top 24 nations qualifies for the Champions League.

I added more teams to the group stage in the 1997-1999 version due to there being more teams in the competition (2 from the top nations), so the groups would have been uneven when trying to get the knockout stages working.

I don't believe there are any other versions with a 24-team group stage.
  • blackmamba9203's avatar
@Carlito, File 32 is the 95-96 one correct?

Also are there any other that are 24 teams?
  • Carlito_85's avatar
Carlito_85 Page Author Staff 1 month ago
@RNeves1511: Thanks! I don't think you can have a team that has qualified for Europe via the league also compete in the Cup Winners' Cup. Everything works by default so if they finish top 6 for example the Cup Winners' Cup spot will go to the national cup runner-up.

@blackmamba9203: Thanks! I believe the years for the real versions of the competitions are listed just under the file number. The majority of them are towards the bottom from around file 24. The version of the Champions League you're looking for is file 36 (1997-1999 format). The only exception is that there are 32 teams instead of 24 (it caused complications for qualifying to knockout stages). The 1995-96 version is also there, with 24 teams in the group stage but it means only one team from each nation qualifies for the competition.

    Hope this helps :)
  • blackmamba9203's avatar
Does anyone know which of the UEFA files is the 24 teams format with 1 group stage phase - 6 groups total. Best two 2nd placed group stage teams join the winners in the quarterfinal knockout stage?

i believe there would also be a restriction of max 2 teams per nation.

This is fantastic. Testing it out right now. If I could ask for one small edit, in the 'notes' file that is included in download, any chance the UEFA files could also add a description of what year they are for? I'm trying to figure out which ones are from early 90s, mid 90s, late 90s, and its rather difficult without having to research the formats online after. Great works - cheers
  • RNeves1511's avatar
Hi, Carlito! Great database but I was wondering if you could make a file with the current Champions League format, the Europa League format from 2021 (from the start of the save, not only 2021 onwards) and the Cup Winners Cup with the 32 top national cup winners (no group stage) but with the actual winners of the cups (in your current files, if the national cup winner is in the Champions League or in the Europa League they don´t participate on the Cup Winners Cup). Keep up the good work mate!

Ok works. Sorry i was considering the rules competition of the national championships where qualitications to european cup positions aren't showen now.
