MARCELLO LIPPI'S ITALY WORLD CUP 2006 MASTERCLASS

Hi guys

this is my emulation of Marcello Lippi's Italy 2006 World Cup Champion

I tested this tactic using the 2003-04 season database, naturally with the Italian national team, always calling up only the 23 players Lippi had available during the World Cup, with only a few modifications. I played three seasons, 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26, to attempt the climb to the World Cup. But in the first two seasons, I also had to face EURO 2024 and the NATIONS LEAGUE 24-25. In the end, I won all 3 competitions, as well as the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Firstly, Peruzzi is not in the database (I don't know why), so I called up other goalkeepers (sometimes Toldo, sometimes Pellizzoli, sometimes De Sanctis). Furthermore, in the first competition, the 2024 European Championship in Germany which I participated in, the rules required calling up 26 players, not 23 as in the World Cup, so I called up a young Cassano and two other players.

However, in the USA 2026 World Cup, the squad size was 23 players, so apart from two bench goalkeepers different from Peruzzi and Amelia, I called up the same players Lippi had available, namely: Buffon, Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Grosso, Pirlo, Gattuso, Camoranesi, Perrotta, Totti, Toni, with Materazzi, Barzagli, Oddo, Zaccardo, De Rossi, Barone, Del Piero, Pippo Inzaghi, Gilardino, Iaquinta on the bench. The latter proved decisive in winning the World Cup, scoring goals both as a central striker and as a left winger.
