Liverpool FC - Fallen From Grace

Liverpool FC. Once, they were one of the worlds' greatest teams. A team that dominated the top division in England and shone in continental competitions. Now the club, despite still being recognized as a major force in global football, have been labelled complacent and their league positions have dropped. Now, local rivals Everton are posing a threat to their reputation, finishing above Liverpool last season. Many have said that their slip in stature has been largely due to the lack of top world class players at the club. Last year, they did not even manage continental qualification, which was seen as a huge disappointment by many fans.

But things could be on the up for the Merseyside club. With new manager Brendan Rodgers being brought into the club last season, there has been a click with his tactics and the players are beginning to gel. There is still a long way to go before they get back to what they once were but the new manager has brought in some new, quality players such as Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and French center back Mamadou Sakho, both with plenty of international experience to their names. Could these players be key to their campaign or will they fail to live up to expectations.

Fans are after a major improvement this season, so can Rodgers be the man to deliver? Or will it be another disappointing season for Liverpool?

Shock As Liverpool Sack Rodgers

40 year old manager Brendan Rodgers has been sacked by Premier League club Liverpool.

The Northern Irish manager, who had only been at the club since June 2012, was called into a boardroom meeting earlier this morning to discuss his ambitions for the upcoming season. The news was leaked through social networking site Twitter from a club insider. The information was later confirmed by chairman Tom Werner.

Mr Werner:

"It is with regret that Liverpool Football Club announces that Brendan Rodgers has been relieved of his duties as Liverpool manager.

We reached this decision early this morning. It was not an easy decision to make. The decision is the outcome of a season review, in which myself and the board discussed with Brendan his plans for the next season. Despite a 7th placed finish, we feel that failing to qualify for a continental competition is a huge disappointment and a lot of that failure has to be put down to Brendan. We understand that it was tough for him to come in after a disappointing season and try to reshape the squad but we feel that the budget we offered to him to do so was sufficient. I would like to personally thank him for his dedication to the club during his time here and for his support and continued friendship."

Many fans of the club were outraged by the decision, claiming that Rodgers was not given enough time and that they felt a lot of progress was made regarding the long term future of the club, with Rodgers being the reason for this. There has been no media speculation regarding the next manager, but ex-Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has ruled himself out, stating that he "is not prepared to let the club down" with his "lack of experience in football management".
Nice start, you make me so jealous! I want FM14 gotta wait till the release though, great start nevertheless
Great start mate.. Will be looking forward to see the signings you'll make :D. However, do you agree with this?

Fan Tension Cooled As Ex-Liverpool Legend Named As Manager

Fans at Liverpool FC have settled following the recent shock sacking of former manager Brendan Rodgers last week, since today's earlier announcement that ex-club legend Robbie Fowler would be taking over from Rodgers.

It was only last week that Liverpool fans were outraged at the decision made by Thomas Werner to sack Rodgers. Yet today, despite Robbie Fowler not having much managerial experience, they seem to be a lot happier. Fowler, 38, played as a striker for Liverpool during the years 1993-2001, playing a total of 236 games and scoring 120 goals. He left for Leeds for a fee of £12 million.
He then went off to Manchester City, before returning to Liverpool in the 2005-2006 season. He stayed with Liverpool for two seasons, scoring 12 goals, with limited chances. Recently, he played in former teammate and close friend Steven Gerrard's testimonial match, receiving a great reception from the Liverpool supporters. Fowler, who currently holds the record for the fastest hat trick in the history of the Premier League said that, although it was nice that he received so much support, the day was not about him. He left the field to a standing ovation.

Fowler's only managerial experience prior to accepting the Liverpool job is a one year contract (a player/manager role) with Thai side Muangthong United in 2011, whom he took to a 3rd place finish. They decided not to offer him a new contract and he retired from professional football, returning to Liverpool to coach at the academy. With no top class managerial experience to his name, will he be the man to bring success back to Liverpool?
Will always remember Fowler for his time with the might North Queensland Fury and of course Perth Glory. Will be interesting to see how he goes in management :D
Thanks for commenting guys.
YNWA! Good luck LFC! :)
