The recently appointed Liverpool manager, Robbie Fowler, has been speaking to the Daily Express about his opinion on young Belgian born "starlet", Adnan Januzaj, and the recent speculation on his international future. The Manchester United midfielder, 18, moved to England two years ago, after impressing Manchester United scouts. He has recently been under a lot of media speculation after it was revealed that, if he was not capped by Belgium by 2018, he would therefore be eligible to play for England, due to residing in the UK for a certain period of time. This has been greeted with great hope from many England fans, but also with skepticism by others, including twenty-one year old England midfielder Jack Wilshere, who said that he would not like to see the Belgian play for England. He told press that "The only people who should play for England are English people. We have to remember what we are. We are English. We tackle hard, are tough on the pitch and are hard to beat. If you live in England for five years it doesn't make you English. If I went to Spain and lived there for five years I am not going to play for Spain." The Arsenal man has some very strong opinions there, but what does the new Liverpool manager think of the situation?

We asked Robbie Fowler whether he believed Januzaj, who is also eligible to play for Albania and Kosovo, should have the right to play for England. In response to the question, Fowler replied "It's a tricky one. You don't want to have all of your national team players having a foreign upbringing, but I think that there is an exception for a few. To be honest I think that he should have the right to play for England, but I am just not totally sure whether he will ever be ready to. With the likes of Jack (Wilshere) in the squad, a bright, talented lad, I think it will be really difficult for Januzaj to get in. The fans like to see a home grown player doing well for his country but I am sure that if Januzaj does turn out as well as people are expecting him to, then there will be no complaints. We'll just have to see."


This will not be decided in the short term, unless he plays for Belgium, something he was reluctant to do, but I am sure this will not be the last we hear of this.

Veteran German striker Miroslav Klose is the first of three players to sign for Liverpool this week. The 35 year old signed a one year deal with the club, completing a £1.9 million transfer from Lazio on Tuesday. During his career, Klose spent several years at German giants Bayern Munich, before joining Lazio in 2011. He told Sky Sports that he is "delighted" to be able to finish his career in a league which he has not played in before, and one which he had great admiration for. Some are saying that his chances will be limited during his time at Liverpool with the 'SAS' partnership of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez already in place, but with Suarez banned for the first six games of the season for biting Branislav Ivanovic, he is sure to have a few games in that time. Liverpool boss Robbie Fowler claims that "although Miroslav has been brought in to cover Suarez, he will be given enough chances to suit his fitness levels in the later years of his career."


The second player that joined Liverpool this week was promising 16 year old striker Richairo Živković. Liverpool held off contract offers from teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain to sign the Dutch born youngster, who is also eligible to play for Serbia. He joins for a compensation fee of £560k, a fee praised by the Liverpool support, with many fans believing that the player could be a global star. It is understood that Liverpool are trying to work out a loan deal in the coming days to allow him to gain crucial first team experience, with feeder club Accrington Stanley among those interested.




The final signing made this week by Liverpool is another youngster, who looks to have some great potential. Markus Mendler, 20, signs from German team Nuremberg for a fee of £1.2 million. The German, who plays as a winger, will join the U-21 side for now, again with a possible loan deal being discussed with Sky Bet League 1 side Tranmere Rovers. Fans are hoping for big things from the youngster and he will be praying that he can deliver.


Liverpool have seen a few youngsters leave on loan so far this summer but there was quite a surprise when Robbie Fowler decided to let exciting winger Raheem Sterling leave on loan. He had been a part of the previous managers' plans so it was strange that he was allowed to be sent off to Sheffield Wednesday for a whole season. The fans have stuck by their manager though, stating that the player does need key first team experience to ensure he reaches his potential.
