It Gets Worse For Fowler's Liverpool in September
After a disappointing start to the Premier League, things got worse for Liverpool in September, with four losses in all competitions. Despite coming up against strong teams like Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, they will still be angry with the results of the games. They played four league games and one Capital One Cup game against rivals Manchester United.

: Steven Gerrard
After a poor month to kick off the season, Liverpool were up against it in September with some tough fixtures. The first of these was against oil rich Manchester City at their home ground, The Etihad Stadium. Before twenty minutes had passed, City took the lead. When Yaya Touré had a shot deflected from the edge of the area, Simon Mignolet could only parry it into the path of David Silva who squared the ball to Sergio Agüero who tapped into the empty net.
Just after the hour mark, City scored again when new signing Alvaro Negredo dropped in behind Mamadou Sakho to tap home Jesús Navas' cross. With just under ten minutes to play, Lorenzo Insigne latched onto a fabulous ball from Steven Gerrard before firing past Joe Hart in the City goal. Attendance: 46,155.

: Martin Škrtel
After the narrow loss to Manchester City, Liverpool hosted Newcastle at Anfield. It wasn't a game of goals, and the only goal of the game came when Martin Škrtel headed in Lorenzo Insigne's corner to give Liverpool their second win of the season. It could have gone either way but in the end Liverpool got it, a fair result. Attendance: 44,113.

Liverpool hosted the league leaders Chelsea as they hoped to build on the win against Newcastle. However, they fell behind after just ten minutes when Spanish midfielder Juan Mata volleyed in Brazilian midfielder Willian's cross. Just after half an hour, Liverpool fell further behind when Eden Hazard drifted in behind the Liverpool defence to head home another Willian cross. Attendance: 45,276.

: Micah Richards
Liverpool's last game in the league for September saw them face another tricky fixture, this time a trip to The Emirates Stadium where they came up against Arsenal. Before the game had even reached five minutes, Arsenal were in front. Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner controlled a weak, low cross from Santi Cazorla, before firing into the near post, leaving Simon Mignolet with no time to react. The lead was doubled later in the half when record Arsenal signing Mesut Özil volleyed in a better Cazorla cross. Attendance: 60,338.

: Robin Van Persie
After a win over Crewe Alexandra to take them into the Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Liverpool faced a difficult away tie to rivals Manchester United. Manchester United took the lead just before the half hour when Dutch striker Robin Van Persie headed Tom Cleverley's cross into the back of the net.
Nine minutes after half time, Van Persie doubled his and Manchester United's tally for the game when he volleyed a lovely through ball from Nani past Simon Mignolet. The win meant that Liverpool went out of the competition and Manchester United went through to the next round. Unfortunately, new Liverpool signing Lorenzo Insigne picked up a nasty injury, sidelining him for around three months. Attendance: 75,765.
Monthly Awards
The Player Of The Month Award goes to Martin Škrtel for some impressive defensive displays. Whilst Liverpool conceded a few goals during the month, he was solid at the back and without him, they would have conceded many more.
Once again, the Young Player Of The Month Award goes to Lorenzo Insigne, who seems to be just what Liverpool need in a corner taker. They will likely find it difficult during his absence.
