Management Wilderness!
After the disappointment that was my time in charge of Grimsby Town in terms of our final performance in the last month which saw us drop down the league, I headed back on the trail of a new job. As it was the end of the season there was a large number of chairman’s who clearly wanted a new approach brought to their club and a number of manager positions did become available. There were the odd few that were way above me and my current managing experience, for example, AC Milan were never going to offer me a job so I did the sensible thing and saved myself the embarrassment of applying.
A handful of clubs did offer me an opportunity to attend the nerve racking job interview; the clubs being Harrogate Town, Eastleigh FC and Guiseley. None of these clubs even interested me so I rejected the offer of an interview and instead headed back on holiday in the hope a higher league team would take a gamble on me. Eventually Colchester United did come in for me and this interested me for sure. I attended the interview; I said all the right things and the chairman appeared to be pleased with my answers and before I knew it, they didn’t offer me the job. I was a bit gutted as they were one of the highest league clubs that had come in for me. Instead I headed back into management wilderness. I then had interviews at Hereford United, Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Gateshead. Three of these teams laughed me out of the room after the interview because they were obviously too “big” a club for me.
But one club did offer me the job, which I gratefully accepted...but who was it?

Gallagher heads to County!
As you can gather I decided to take on the job of Stockport County manager with the club currently playing their trade in the Skrill North Division. I had been hoping for a bigger club to come in for me, maybe one from the actual football league, but it didn’t happen for me so I have had to settle for County instead. In my honest opinion, and no offence meant to any County fans, but the club is diabolical! The quality of players is absolutely shocking, the facilities are worse and it is clear why the club are in the Skrill North and not performing well in the division. For an example of the standard of player, take my player of the month Brandon Windsor for example. The lad in my first few matches in charge has played his socks off and managed to get himself a couple of goals. But look at this attributes! They are appalling! Yes he is only 19 but if he is seen as one of my main strikers then we as a club don’t stand a chance of progressing in this league.
What is even more of a joke is that the board of directors, just like Grimsby’s did, expect me to achieve promotion. I couldn’t quite believe it when I read it and unfortunately for them, and probably for me come end of the season, that aim is a little too high for this season at least.
Player of the Month – Brandon Windsor
Stockport beat Newcastle United a few seasons ago in the domestic cup :P. Hopefully, you'll get some good performances and get a top job. Good luck.

You have your work cut out for you pal... Stockport really do suck. They've always languished in the lower leagues so I don't envy you here tho I'm sure you'll turn it around. It's a shame your results against AFC Telford aren't the other way around. League results are far more valuable than cup results given your targets I'd say.
Might be an idea to try and get a decent parent club that way you may be able to bring in some much better players on loan. Not ideal but if money's tight which I'm guessing it will be it's a good way of boosting your squad.
I did this with Salisbury Town a few years ago on FM09 and it worked a treat. Promoted to Sky Bet Div2 within 2 seasons.

Actually, that was one of the best season I've ever played on FM so I have to agree. I played 8 Seasons in total and stayed at Salisbury for 6 of them. Got to the Championship but struggled and went straight back down. I got sacked... cheeky sods, after everything I did for them too. Went to Fulham after that but it was boring in comparison.
I really don't envy the task at hand with County tho!
