Milner Edges Wilshere To England Call-Up
James Milner beat Jack Wilshere to a call up to the England squad.
James Milner has beaten in-form midfielder Jack Wilshere to a call-up for the England national side, ahead of the upcoming friendly at home to Paraguay for the 19th November.
Arsenal captain Jack Wilshere has featured in England's last five games, a friendly against Belgium, in which he scored the only goal, and four World Cup Qualifiers, which including the man of the match award and a brace in the 6-0 thrashing of Montenegro. In contrast, James Milner is yet to put on an England shirt this season, having to watch from the sidelines.
James Milner has previously spoken about the England game, but gave no hints to his many fans and followers on twitter, despite receiving his first call up for over a year. Milner mentioned conversations with England players Michael Carrick, Rickie Lambert and the recently included Jay Rodriguez
(shown below), but gave no hint that he would play alongside the stars.
James Milner spoke to Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez about his potential debut.
Arsenal fans have clearly displayed their disappointment in the involvement, but both Manchester City and neutral fans felt the right decision was made, although the logic behind Roy's choice is unknown.
The £8.25 million valued central midfielder, who can also play out wide if needed has featured for the Citizens eight times, grabbing one assist and an average rating of 6.92. On the other hand, Arsenal regular Jack Wilshere has featured for the Gunner no less than 14 times, scoring 3 while also assisting three.
Valued at a mega £23 million, Wilshere has been vital for his club this year, leaving fans puzzled to why the likes of James Milner, Michael Carrick and Jack Rodwell have all been selected over the 21-year-old.
