Congratulations on beating Rangers! I thought it was curious that you used a 4-2-3-1 against their 4-4-2 since it's one of the few 5 man midfield formations that doesn't have an advantage over the 4-4-2. Still, at least you didn't get pinched by penalties.

Scottish Cup Semi Final: Analysis

Well what an eventful day here at Hampden Park, Hibernian are through to the final of the Scottish Cup, for a staggering 3rd year in a row. Graeme what are your thoughts?
A great win for Hibernian who I wrote off at the start and boy do I feel stupid now. They completely bossed the game and never really gave Rangers a chance, let’s look at some of the stats:

To have this much superiority in a game of this utterly astounding. If Horne’s team were playing anyone else they would have had the game finished by half time.
I agree with Mixu there Horne set his team out to dominate and that’s exactly what he did. I can’t believe he is only 26 years old, what a career the young man is going to have.

Well folks thats all we have time for today, make sure you tune in tomorrow to see Hamilton take on Hearts in the other semi final. From Myself, Mixu and Graeme its goodbye for now.

Cheers mate, was one of the most nerve racking games I've played in I thought it was over when they scored. Changing to 4-3-3 definitely helped me win the match as I couldn't break them down at all. Happy to be in the final though, lets hope I can break this 111 year Scottish Cup hoodoo.
Excellent few updates and great result :)

League Table

Player of the Month
Paul McGowan: Has to be my Player of the month this month scoring 3 goals and also a penalty in the shoot-out against Rangers in the Scottish Cup. He’s turning out to be a bargain buy at £190k and I think there may be a few offers coming in for him in the summer.

Manager of the Month

Manager Comments
April was a great month for us we kept our unbeaten record (25 games) and got through to the final of the Scottish Cup. I was disappointed with the Celtic Score though as we conceded in the 87th minute and the win would have taken us within a point of Celtic. I think the chase for the league is over now, all we can do is win the rest of our matches and hope Celtic slip up. I am also very happy to recieve my 4th manager of the month award, it would have been 5 if it wasn't for Gary McAllister.

May Fixtures

The 3 remaining league fixtures are all winnable in my opinion, we should keep the pressure on Celtic and hope that they slip up. The biggest game is obviously the Scottish Cup Final against Hearts. We are unbeaten against them so far so hopefully we can keep that form in both the games coming up against the Jambos. We will also be looking to seek revenge for the 5-1 thrashing they gave us in the 2012 Scottish Cup Final.

Cheers mate, tookme forever to do them, glad someone likes them :). It was a nerveracking game, I hate penalty shoot-outs in real life never mind on FM lol.

So close to winning it mate, but nevertheless, a great finish to the season.

I know pretty gutted about not winning the league, but I was only predicted to finish in 8th so I've done not to bad. Cheers for your comment.

Good afternoon everyone I’m Jeff Stelling and we are coming to you live from Hampden Park for the Scottish Cup Final where we will see Heart of Midlothian take on Hibernian. I am joined today by former Hibernian winger Pat Nevin and Former Hearts and current Coventry City manager Steven Pressley.

What a game we have here today guys, this has been billed as the biggest derby ever by the fans is that something you guys agree with?
It’s going to be a fantastic day of football, but I don’t agree that this is the biggest Edinburgh Derby I believe that the first Cup Final between the sides in 2012 was the biggest. This is definitely the second biggest derby of all time though.
It pains me to say it but I have to agree with Steven, although this game is huge the first cup final was a lot different and it’s also one that the Hibs players will want to avenge.

The team line ups are in let’s have a look at the Hearts team first.

A strong line up for Hearts there can this young team hold their nerve and win this match?
I’m not sure if they can Jeff, Hibernian are a much stronger team than Hearts and although we haven’t seen the Hibs line up yet I believe they will have too much for Hearts.

Sorry but I don’t agree with you there Pat this is a very talented squad that Gary Locke has put out and I have every faith that this team will step up today and take the trophy home.
I don’t know how you can say that, Hearts haven’t even got a draw this season against Hibs and have been dominated in every department but form does go out the window in these games and anything can happen.
Ok let’s have a look at the Hibs line up.

Thats a really strong squad Andi has put out and you can see why they have been labelled as favourites will they take this match too lightly considering their favourites tag?
No I don’t think they will Horne, being a Hibernian lad, will make sure the team goes out focused on doing the job. The team will also want to keep their excellent derby record for the season which will be 6 out of 6 if they can win.
I agree Pat they won’t take this game lightly it’s a huge fixture and there isn’t any room for complacency. The fans crave this trophy and I don’t think they could handle another final defeat especially anote one to Hearts and Horne will make sure his team knows that.

Well we’re ready for kick off hear at Hampden, will the ribbons on this trophy be maroon or green? Lets find out..........
Great results last month...lets hope you can pip Celtic to the title :)
Also, good luck against Hearts!

Thanks Jeff, I’m Rob MacLeod and today I’ll be helped by former HIbs and Hearts midfielder Michael Stewart.
Hi Rob, what a game we have for everyone today, these are the type of games that come along once in a lifetime but we’ve had 2 cup finals with these teams in 3 years. Its incredible!
It certainly is Michael and I have a feeling it’s going to be a cracker of a game. We’re about to kick off here at Hampden and the atmosphere is absolutely electric. Can Hibsend their 111 year hoodoo or will Hearts inflict more misery on the Hibees? Let’s find out, here come the players.

1- and we’re off here at Hampden, the atmosphere is amazing.
I’m not sure how the young Hearts team will react to this atmosphere but I’m sure Gary Locke has them as fired up as possible.

3- The tackles have been flying in already and Hibernian central defender Tiago Ilori looks like he needs treatment already.
That looked a sore one but he should be able to carry on.
11- Corner for Hibs, Harris whips it into the box but McKay gets his head to it and clears, but only as far as Fahey who takes a shot but its blocked by Stevenson, oh but Liam Craig has it GOAAAAAL!
Craig with a delightful effort from just inside the box, he slots it right into the bottom corner the keeper had no chance. He’s done excellent there to react so quickly after the ball rebounded off Ryan Stevenson.
25- Its fairly quiet now since the goal it’s been a fairly messy affair so far with both teams making lots of mistakes and struggling to retain possession.
Yes Rob Andi Horne looks livid down there on the touch line he’s screaming at his players to get the ball forward.
Locke looks shell shocked down there, he better get his team sorted out or the game will simply pass them by, as Hibs won’t play like this for much longer.
35- Smith with possession out on the left, Cairney steals it off him and plays a simple ball to Craig. What a pass as Craig manages to play an eye of the needle ball to McGowan who skips pastWilson, he’s skipped past McKay aswell, one on one GOAAAAL!
What an effort from Paul McGowan, he’s really been a great signing for Hibs and I bet the reported fee of £190,000 looks a bargain right now.
Half time- The whistle goes or half time here in Glasgow it’s not been as action packed as we’d expected but Hibernian manager Andi Horne will no doubt be pleased with his teams performance.
They’ve done well so far and taken their chances. If Hearts don’t buck up their ideas this could be a thrashing. Back to the studio.

Thanks guys, The Hibees look like they’re well on their way to lift their first Scottish Cup since 1902 can they keep their nerve Pat or will Hearts make a comeback?
I believe Hibs will hold onto this lead Hearts look like they are crumbling under the pressure and Hibs just have too much for them, although nothing will ever surprise me in football and as we have seen on so many occasions anything can happen.
I hate to say this but I have to agree Hearts look totally out of their depth and I’m not sure Locke is the right man to motivate them. It’s a really young squad that hasn’t beaten or drew with Hibs in 5 attempts this season, to come back now is just too much to ask of them.

Is that not a bit harsh on your old team Steven given Hibs haven’t particularly played well either?
No I don’t think it is, although they haven’t had many shots on target they have dominated the midfield and they were starting to retain possession a lot better as the half came to a close. If they can be more ruthless in front of goal they could well bang in a few more goals.

Who has been your player of the half so far Pat?
Young winger Alex Harris has been a delight to watch his running and dribbling has been second to none and his final delivery has been top drawer, but I think one man has just edged him and that’s Paul McGowan. I don’t think he has given the ball away or wasted any passes and his goal was sublime the way he just glided past the two Hearts defenders was phenomenal.
He wouldn’t have got past me if I was still playing that’s for sure.
I don’t know about that Steven you weren’t exactly the quickest *Studio bursts into laughter including Pressley*

Final score predictions guys?
4-0
5-0

Well they’re you have it we know what our pundits think let’s see if their right, back to Rob and Michael.

Hello and welcome back to Hampden Park with me Rob McLean and Michael Stewart. We have what I hope will be an exciting second half of Scottish Cup action here for you.
If the first half is anything to go by Rob I don’t think it’ll be that exciting.
45- We’re off here again at Hampden.
50- Free kick to Hibs on the edge of the Hearts area.
Craig looks like he’s about to shoot here, OOOHHH! He’s hit the post from 30 yards out so unlucky there.

54- Hibs have another free kick on theedge of the box. Hearts are sinking without a trace here Michael.
Yes they are I don’t know how they can weather the storm.
Harris takes the free kick but Wilson gets his head on it and clears it all the way back to Mullen at the half way line. Oh! Mullens gave it away to Poleon he’s ran 30 yards with no Hibs defender able to keep up, he’s one on one GOAAAAAL.

A life line for Hearts can they salvag something from this match? Horne looks furious.
63- A fresh pair of legs for Hibs as Robertson comes on for the tiring Fahey.
66- McGivern with the ball and Poleon goes through him. Thats a terrible challenge theres no room in football for challenges like that.
He’s off! Red card for the striker who scored 10 minutes ago. Hearts have it all to do now Rob.
A Classic case of Hero to Zero.

77- Mulhall is on the side lines waiting to go on here, I think its Collins who is coming off.
78- McGivern out on the left finds Cairney who then slips a lovely ball to Collins GOOAAAAL! It’s 3-1 to Hibs and surely game over now.
Thats the last thing he’ll do today as he’s going off, what a reception he’s getting from the fans he’s a legend in the Hibernain Fans eyes now.
83- Corner for Hearts taken by Stevenson, Oliver Jumps up for it, PENALTY! The referee is giving it for a push by Ilori.
That looks a harsh decision but I’m sure Hearts won’t mind another life line for them.
84- Hamill steps up to the spot, GOAAAL! An excellent penalty by Hamill giving Williams no chance. What a lifeline for Hearts can they fight their way back into the game in the last 5 minutes.
Hibs have also subbed on James McPake for Ilori who looks like he’s starting to struggle with his earlier injury.
Full Time- And that’s it Hibernian have finally gotten the Scottish Cup Monkey off their back. The fans are going wild and they’ve invaded the pitch. Great scenes here at Hampden this is what football is all about. Suspended Captain Kevin Thomson has done a John Terry he’s got his suit off and his strip on to come and lift the cup.
I’d do the same Rob, I know Kevin and he’s a Hibs lad through and through its a dream for him to do this, but there isn’t any need for the shinnys and I’m sure he’ll get some stick off the lads for that.
The fans are back in their seats now and Thomson has lifted the Trophy, I’ve never seen or heard anything like this the roar there as Thomson Kissed and lifted the cup was 111 years of frustration finally leaving the Hibernian faithful.
Yeah its truly amazing there’s grown men crying tears of joy, they’ve just witnessed what some people thought they’d never see in their lifetime.
Lets sit back and listen to the Hibees singing their anthem, Sunshine on Leith.

Congrats on winning the Scottish Cup!
