BREAKING NEWS: PAT FENLON LEAVES HIBS

We have breaking news coming through from Edinburgh tonight. The Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon has resigned as the manager of Hibernian Football Club. Fenlon leaving comes as no surprise as Hibs have been on a poor run of form recently. Not only did they fail to make the top 6 in the league last season but they also lost their second consecutive Scottish Cup Final, a competition which has alluded them since 1902, 3-0 to league champions Celtic.

Fenlon, pictured above after the Scottish Cup Final defeat, believes he has taken Hibernian as far as he could and felt the time was right to go.
“It's a difficult decision for me, but it's the right decision, I think a lot of the negativity is towards me at the moment, so if I take myself out of the firing line it will help everybody else." said the 44-year-old, who took over two years ago.
"I don't want to let people down and the club have been 100% behind me in every way. I still think I had the backing of the club. I've been privileged to manage this fantastic football club and I really hope it does kick on now, I'm convinced that we have improved the football side of the club a lot. We've got a real good squad there, real good players and good staff. This is a really enjoyable place to work, with great people, and that's what makes it difficult to leave. I think it's a good time for someone to come in and hopefully kick us on." Fenlon, who leaves with a 35% winning record from 87 games also managed Shelbourne, Derry City and Bohemians, lifting the League of Ireland title on five occasions, before he replaced Colin Calderwood in the Easter Road dugout.

Hibernian will now be looking for their 7th Manager in 10 years. Many see the position as a poisoned chalice but there have still been some big names linked with the post such as former Managers Tony Mowbray and Alex Mcleish, former Scotland Manager Craig Levein has also been linked. The favourite amongst the bookies and the fans though is ex-England captain and current Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Terry Butcher.

Nice start mate!A good picture of Terry Butcher :))

It's the only picture of Terry Butcher in existence ;)

Looking forward to this story. Always had a soft spot for Hibs.

Today we are going to have a look at some of the managerial candidates for the current vacancy at Hibernian Football Club which include two former managers and an ex-England Captain. Hibernian are now looking for their 7th Manager in 10 years with the average time anyone has spent in the Hibs hotseat in this time is just 18 months.

Terry Butcher 5/2 :
The favourite for the job is Still Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss Terry Butcher. Butcher made his professional football debut for Ipswich under Bobby Robson against Everton in April 1978. He was also part of the Ipswich side which won the UEFA Cup in 1981. In 1986 Butcher left Ipswich to join Scottish football giants Rangers where he went on to win 5 trophies. After Rangers the Englishman joined Coventry, Sunderland eventually becoming Player-Manager for both clubs. He also played 3 times for Clydebank before finally deciding to hang up his playing boots. The former England Captain has been the Manager of Inverness since 27th January 2009. Although The Caley Jags got relegated in his first season in charge, he managed to guide them straight back up to the Scottish Premiership. Since coming back up Caley have finished 7th, 10th and 4th in the SPL. He has also managed Motherwell, Brentford and Sydney. He was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in November 2011.

Tony Mowbray 3/1 :
Former Celtic Manager Tony Mowbray is also in the frame to be the next Hibernian Manager after his release from Middlesbrough. Mowbray made his professional debut for Middlesbrough in 1982 going on to make 348 appearances for the club. Mogga, as he is called, also had spells at Celtic and Ipswich Town. Unlike Terry Butcher Mowbray has already managed Hibernian back in 2004 which was also his first proper managerial position, he had a spell as interim manager of Ipswich in 2002. Although he left for West Brom after only 2 years in charge Mowbray is still held in high regard by the Hibees faithful. Mowbray was in charge of Hibs famous Golden Generation of including such players as current Scotland internationals Scott Brown, Kevin Thomson, Steven Whittaker, Steven Fletcher and Gary Caldwell. Many also believe it was down to Mowbray’s team that Hibernian won the Scottish League Cup in 2007. Mowbray has also had a spell in charge of Celtic.

Alex Mcleish 5/1 :
The other former Hibernian Manager we will be looking at today is Alex Mcleish. Mcleish made his football debut at Aberdeen in a new years fixture in 1978 agains Dundee United. The Scot went on to play 493 appearances for the Dons who he played for between 1978 and 1994, winning 10 trophies which include the European Cup Winner’s Cup and Scottish Cup under the management of the legendary Scottish manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The other club he played for in s career was Motherwell where he only managed 3 appearances. Mcleish’s first foray into football management came with Scottish club Motherwell as player-manager in 1994. Mcleish stayed at Motherwell until he was offered the Job with Hibernian in 1998. Unable to save the Edinburgh club from relegation that season he quickly brought them back up smashing records for points gained and goals scored in the Sottish First Division. He also brought legendary player and former manager Frank Sauzee to the club, affectionately known as Le God around Easter Road. Eventually Mcleish left Hibs to take over Rangers in December 2001 he also managed Scotland, Birmingham, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forrest.

So there we have it, will one of these 3 favourites take the job or will it be an outsider that gets it? Thank you for reading I have been Andrew Scott for WilliamHill.com.
AAN : He looks like the mad man that he is in that pic.

BREAKING NEWS: HIBERNIAN WITH SHOCK ANNOUNCEMENT
Today Hibernian Chairman Rod Petrie has announced that his new manager will be the inexperienced up and coming Andi Horne. 25 year old Horne has no previous experience in football management and is believed to have only just got his coaching badges a few months ago. Horne looked nervous as he was sat in the press room at Hibernian’s Easter Road Stadium but managed to remain calm enough to answer some of our questions.

Luke Shanley
Andi Horne

Andi, you sit here as the new manager of Hibernian Football Club how are you feeling?
Hi Luke, I am absolutely ecstatic to be hired it is really a dream come true to be managing not just my hometown club but also the club I have supported since I was born.
Given your inexperience in the game, will you be bringing in any staff over the coming weeks to help you out?
Jimmy Nichol has been great with me already and I have already discussed with him about staying on as my assistant/mentor. I will also be bringing another few members of staff over the coming weeks.
Given Hibernian’s fans desire to see their team play a slick passing and attacking game is this one of your philosophies for the club?
As a Hibernian fan myself I will make sure that my team play the Hibs way and that is exactly how you have explained it. My team will play an attacking short passing game that you like liken to maybe Arsenals way of playing.
I’m sure the fans will be happy to hear that. Given the fact that the club has produced players sch as Scotland Captain Scott Brown, Sunderland Striker Steven Fletcher and current Scotland Internationals Steven Whittaker and Gary Caldwell, is theyouth system here something you will look to utilize?
Of course, this club has a history of bringing some exceptional players up through the ranks and we have some wonderful young players at the club just now in Paul Hanlon, Alex Harris and Danny Handling. I can’t wait to see what diamionds I can unearth.
The bookies are predicting another season in the bottom 6 for you, given this will you be dipping your toe into the transfer market?
I think it’s unfair to say anything like that at the moment as I have only seen the players in one training session. But if I feel I need to strengthen an area of the squad I am sure the Chairman will help out all he can.
Thank you for your time Andi, congratulations again on the new job and I hope you have a long and successful career at Hibernian Football Club
Thanks Luke

Thanks mate :D
Good start and good luck :)

Key Players

The big keeper will be crucial to any success I have this season and isn’t really under any pressure from back up keeper Sean Murdoch.

Hanlon, although only 24, has made nearly 150 appearances for Hibs and is the club vice captain although he will be the future captain of my Hibs side if I can keep him at the club.

The 29 year old academy product who left for Rangers then had an unsuccessful spell at Middelsbrough came back to Hibs in the second half of last season and decided to play for free. He can control any game in the midfield and I have appointed him as my captain.

A signing made by Pat Fenlon before he left Hibs, the 22 year old should score a few important goals for us this season.

Tactics

These are the 3 tactics that I will be using for the season ahead:

This is the main tactic I will be using throughout this story. The main focus is on keeping the ball and putting the opponent under as much pressure as possible when I don’t have the ball.

This is going to be my tactic when I am chasing a game and need a goal or when I am up by 3 or 4 goals and want to destroy an opponent.

This defensive tactic will be for holding onto a tight lead or playing a big team in Europe away from home.
2013-11-27 21:27#146386 pompeyblue : Good start and good luck :)

Cheers Mate
