Chelsea: Childhood upbringing

9-time winners Real Madrid travel to west London on Tuesday for a Champions League First Knockout round tie. The Spaniards sit top of La Liga, with a commanding 24 point lead over Atletico Madrid. Having had 8 players in the World Team of the Year, Real Madrid will be looking to come out and dominate the match.

They could definitely not do it with attacking trio Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco and Gareth Bale, who have been unstoppable since the start of the season. Isco won the European Golden Boy title, while Ronaldo and Bale came 1st and 3rd respectively in the Ballon D'Or.

Chelsea sit top of the Barclays Premier League with a 9 point lead, and are on the back of a winning streak stretching back to the beginning of December. Chelsea will unfortunately be without new signing Robert Lewandowski, and this will surely be a big blow to the Blues, who have been on excellent goalscoring form.

Instead, Chelsea will have to rely on the likes of Juan Mata, Fernando Torres and Doria to help secure a first-leg lead over Los Blancos. Torres seems to have finally hit the form of his Liverpool days, and, after a stuttering start, Juan Mata is beginning to hit the form which has made him such and integral part of this Chelsea squad.

A really quite disappointing month in some ways. We lost 5-1 twice and after being down in the first leg against Leverkusen, we turned it around and won. Our defeats in the league were crucial, and now we have no gap over anyone at the top.



What a difference a month can make: we have lost the gap and are ahead on goal difference.

We had finally reached May, and we still had the Treble on for us. We had to first beat Manchester United to the Premier League spot with two games against Southampton (A) and West Ham (H). Southampton were sitting comfortably in mid-table, but still had a very strong team and were probably unlucky to be so low down. West Ham were in the last available relegation spot, and victory would save them from the drop.

Straight into the Southampton game, we started well, with Robert Lewandowski scoring to make it 1-0. We then conceded from two set pieces, and found ourselves chasing the game at 2-1. Not for long though, as Lewandowski popped up to score a second goal. Now it was tough, the second half dragged on, and countless easy chances were squandered by both teams. Eventually, after Southampton hit the bar in this end-to-end affair, Chelsea broke and Lewandowski netted his hat-trick and Chelsea's third.

This was an important result, as United had lost.

Going into the final game of the season, we started well. Frank Lampard scored a luscious chip over the keeper on 6 minutes, before Andy Carroll scored after a short kick from Cech. Lewandowski struck straight back, and scored barely a minute later. Juan Mata increased Chelsea's lead before the break, and Chelsea surely had this one in the bag.

After half-time, Frank Lampard had a penalty unusually saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen. However, Chelsea struck back by increasing their lead through Lampard. Late into the game, Torres scored twice to make sure the game ended 6-1.

Chelsea had won the Premier League.
