Francesco Totti - Il Gladiatore di Roma

A legend of the game taking Rome to a new empire. Like Julius Caesar except not as good.

ROMA WRAP UP SCUDETTO SEASON WITH APLOMB

It has been one helluva season in Serie A for AS Roma, winning their third consecutive Scudetto under the managerial reign of club legend Francesco Totti. Having sealed the trophy a month ago, Totti decided to put out a second-string eleven for the final four matches, and even then the Giallorossi managed to close out their campaign with some style.

May began with a bit of an intriguing match at the Angelo Massimino against Catania. The Etnei had more possession and shots on target than the reigning champions, but a strong performance from backup goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet and clinical finishing from Roma's strikers, the game was won in a handy 3-1 fashion. 17 year old Valerio Di Stefano led the way, scoring his first ever goal for the capital city side.

He continued his fine form against Napoli in the next match; a brace, with an Alessio Romagnoli header sandwiched in between, had brought the Romans to 3-2 after giving up a shocking early 2-0 deficit. A late goal from Lorenzo Insigne, however, stunned the Stadio Olimpico, ensuring that Napoli was the only side to not lose to Roma in the league this season (though they were demolished in the Coppa 4-1).

There were some other serious losses in this game, however. Miralem Pjanic, one of the team's very best players and last year's Serie A Player of the Year, was ruled out for the rest of the season with strained knee ligaments. The playmaking and scoring goals out of midfield will now fall solely on the shoulders of Clement Grenier. Domenico Berardi will also miss 4 weeks with a back strain and is in a race against time to be fit for the UEFA Champions League final.

The team rallied after that result, however, and won their next two games with quite some ease. Alvaro Morata scored three goals in the final two games including a man-of-the-match worthy brace against Pescara and a late, late winner against Genoa, enthralling the fans and perhaps earning a spot in the starting eleven for the upcoming final. Another loss was sustained in that final match against Genoa as veteran Andrea Pirlo also will miss over a month with a knee injury.

Despite the injuries sustained to the team, morale is high in the Roma camp, and team is confident. An Italian team has not won the European Cup since Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan stunned the world back in 2010 by beating Bayern Munich, and now, following this thrilling end to the domestic year, Francesco Totti's Roma will be hoping to do the same against another German opponent, Borussia Dortmund.

The final 2015/2016 Serie A table is as follows:

Di Stefano was epic!
哇,贝 拉 尔 迪 和 皮 亚 尼 奇是 巨 大 的 损 失,我希 望 你不 会 丢 失他 们 在 欧 冠 决 赛 太 多。
Feliks: Di Stefano has an immense future ahead here at AS Roma, I honestly see him being the next great legendary Giallorossi striker, following Totti's footsteps :D

JasonRM: Berardi and Pjanic are definitely bitter blows, but such is the depth in the team that I am fully confident we can pull off a result :)

SERIE A: 2015/16 SEASON REVIEW

The 2015-2016 edition of the Serie A has drawn to a close, and, to be quite honest, the final month was one of foregone conclusions. With AS Roma already crowned champions for the third consecutive season and Hellas Verona, Chievo Verona, and Genoa all already set for the drop, the last day was rather devoid of true excitement. Let that that not take away, however, the glory and entertainment of the season as a whole.

The Table

THE CHAMPIONS
Yet again, Francesco Totti's AS Roma proved absolutely unstoppable, storming to a third Scudetto win in three straight years under their legendary player-manager. The Giallorossi smashed the total points record, breaking the heroic triple digits with 102 points as well as scoring no less than 93 goals with their vibrant, attacking style.

THE BOTTOMFEEDERS
At the other end of the table, both Verona clubs and Genoa were sadly relegated back to Serie B after quite dismal years, each team managed a mere 5 wins over the course of the 38 match season. None of the teams even reached 30 points and suffered the consequences and will have to fight hard this summer to keep their star players.

THE SURPRISE
Calcio Catania, perhaps ironically led by ex-Roma boss Zdenek Zeman, were undoubtedly the shock of the season with their incredible 3rd place finish. Expected to finish 9th, the Etnei, led by 25 goal winger Sebastian Leto, stormed their way into 3rd place and the final UEFA Champions League place, leaving AC Milan stunned in the Europa League.

The Superstar

AS Roma's Sebastien Corchia played brilliantly down the right flank.

French right back Sebastien Corchia has won this year's edition of the Serie A Player of the Year award. The 25 year old , who joined two years ago, made 31 Serie A appearances this year, and, despite being a defender, scored 7 goals and added 10 assists. Along with his league-leading 7.73 average rating, Corchia took home an also league-leading 10 Player of the Match awards, thoroughly deserving to be this year's best player.

The Goalscorer

AFC Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez scored 28 goals this season.

German striker Mario Gomez took very quickly to Italian football when he joined Fiorentina from Bayern Munich three years ago, and this season will come as a personal high for the 30 year old. The poacher managed to find the net a league-leading 28 times, playing in all 38 matches (starting 37 of those). This tally has won Gomez the Golden Boot for the year and the undoubted adoration of the Viola faithful.

The Manager

Zdenek Zeman and his attacking style brought Catania to a shock 3rd.

Zdenek Zeman's ultra-attacking footballing philosophy has been called under question many times in the past, but this season, everything came to perfect fruition for his Catania side. With winger Sebastian Leto and striker Samuele Longo combining for 52 goals, the Etnei had one of the league's best attacks, and managed to finish in 3rd place. For this great tactical feat, the Czech boss is this year's Manager of the Year.

The Team

No less than five of Roma's Scudetto-winning team made the Serie A Team of the Year, four of them defensive players. Samuel Umtiti, Sebastien Corchia, Ricardo Rodriguez, and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic all made the team in an ode to the Giallorossi's stellar defensive record. Miralem Pjanic and Clement Grenier were also in the side, combining for 31 goals and 21 assists combined throughout the year.

Two Juventus players joined the massive Roma contingent, but the front three players were all from different teams. 27 goal Samuele Longo of Catania was the headliner, while Lucas Viatri and Youssef El Arabi had 43 goals together as well over the year, proving their worth and excellent goalscoring prowess.

So that's all for this year, folks. The 2015/2016 Serie A season is finally over, and now the long summer wait must begin again...but at least the transfer window is back!! Can Roma retain their crown next season? Will a new challenger rise to up? Though this year has just ended, preparation for next year begins now.

Gl mate! Nice design...
Catania 3rd? How is this possible???
Great layout, but I think the Catania boss is having the last laugh by beating his successor to Manager of the Year :))
