Derby County Swoop For Boyata

Derby County have today finalized the signing of young Belgian center half Dedryck Boyata, the youngster was made available for transfer at the beginning of October and Adam Martin wasted no time and jumped at the opportunity.

The young Belgian already has 1 full international cap to his name, as well as 10 U21 caps too.

Boyata is set to link up with his new club on the 1st January 2014 when the market re-opens and has had this to say:

"I'm looking forward to linking up with my new gaffer and team mates, It's great for me to finally be getting first team football, that was one of the main reasons of coming here. Look I had two choices, sit in the reserves and get paid and not play or search for somewhere to be a regular part of, It was a no brainer for me, no disrespect to Man City because they have helped me so much in my short career but for me to develop as a footballer I had to move to get first team football and the gaffer has promised me it here, I am looking forward to the next chapter in my career here at Derby, the fans are really special and I hope I can win them over and help to push for promotion... Up The Rams!"

Derby boss Martin had this to say on the subject:

"Listen, Dedryck is a quality player, and he's only going to get better! I received a text off his agent about him being made available because he wanted to get some football, how could I possibly turn it down? He's got bags of talent and potential. Plus with the injury crisis we currently have in this position it only seemed right that we should go in for him, and at a cut price of £160k too, what a coup! I look forward to meeting up with the lad and hope he fits in well here and has a bright future in the game!"

Boyata will wear the No. 26 jersey for Derby this season, the shirt is already on sale at the Derby Official Store, you can grab your own here at www.derbycountfc.co.uk/officialstore
Good Luck :) Derby have an interesting squad with the likes of Mason Bennett and Will Hughes

October Review

Ipswich (H) - An awful way to start the month after such a positive one previously, we was battered from start to finish, we managed to get a goal to make the scoreline look a little less uglier
(Goalscorers) Martin Nabi x2 & Freeman (OG)

Leeds (H) - A lot better than last time out in the respect that we won, we managed to get the three points, but we leaked three... from absolutely nothing, we should of shut them out once we scored our fourth to make it 4-0 but no we made it difficult for us and made for a nervy ending.
(Goalscorers) Bryson, Keogh, Hughes & Russel McCormack x2 Poleon

Watford (A) - Another dissapointing loss in a fixture I though we could of done better with. There was a hint of a offside with their last goal but I won't complain because they did deserve their win, they knocked the ball around brilliantly and tired us out and was prolific at the right time.
(Goalscorers) Bryson Pudil & Deeney

Birmingham (H) - Our third home game of the month and from it comes out second defeat, poor again and we are leaking a lot of goals still, I will look to rectify this in the coming weeks with the coaches.
(Goalscorers) Russell x2 Mullins, Zigic & Obika

Overall, a dreadful month by all accounts, I expected much better from this month some games were quite easily winnable. Oh well, It's all about now how we pick ourselves up and move on from it.

Player Of The Month

Nobody was particularly amazing this month, but out of the dull came a little bright light. Craig Bryson was on song in the goals department and added a couple of assists to his game this month, was our best player off the month if I was to choose one.

(Big thanks also to Josh7798 for the new banner)
Tough results! Though a great win against Leeds!

November Review

QPR (A) - A fabulous win against promotion contenders QPR, they have a great set of players and are tactically very sound with Harry at the helm. But, we went to Loftus Road and blew them out of the water, we was brilliant in every aspect, we scored some pretty neat goals. Yes we did conceed one but it was down to an accidental own goal by Keogh, but I couldn't argue with that he couldn't move out the way fast enough, superb win by all accounts!

(Goalscorers)

Derby:
  • Chris Martin x2
  • Sammon

QPR:
  • Keogh (OG)

Sheff Weds (H) - We hoped to get revenge for them knocking us out of the cup recently, but it was not to happen today! It was a tale of brilliant attacking football, with abysmal defending for both sides. Both shipping in three goals (great from a neutrals point though, but not my own) To be truthful Barker can't come back from injury quick enough! He'll be key once fit!

(Goalscorers)

Derby:
  • Chris Martin
  • Hughes
  • Keogh

Sheff Weds:
  • Donnelly
  • Taylor
  • Sammon (OG)

Bournemouth (A) - A wonderful display of attacking football by my side, scoring 6! the most we've managed so far this season. To be honest it looked like everytime we went forward we was going to score, we was unfortunate to conceed two but that wasn't a worry as we scored six of out own! This is a little taste of what is to come from this squad hopefully!

(Goalscorers)

Derby:
  • Sammon x3
  • Martin
  • Bryson
  • Russell

Bournemouth:
  • Pitman
  • Daniels

Overall a great month, unbeaten so that's never too bad! If we keep this current form up and keep scoring this many goals, we might not even have to worry about the playoffs and we can think about getting automatic! Looking forward to what next month brings now! #COYR

Player Of The Month

Undoubtably has to be Conor Sammon, the Irishman has been on fine form in front of goal this month and has scored one of his finest headed goals in his career! (in his own net I might add)
But seriously, hes had a super month and deserves the plaudits!

Match Magazine Q&A - Will Hughes

Hello!

Welcome to this weeks MATCH! magazine Q&A, this week Will Hughes took time out of his busy schedule to speak to Matchy and answer some of the questions for the viewers

Matchy: "Hey there Will, first of all thank you for taking time out to speak to us and answer a few questions"

Hughes: "No problem Matchy!"

Matchy: "First things first, Mr Martin... What's he like to play under?"

Hughes: "Well Matchy, he's a great manager, yes everyone thought he was inexperienced and wasn't going to do well when he first came in, but he's starting to win the pundits over now! He has great ideas and has confidence in all of his players, he makes training a lot of fun and everyone is enjoying playing for him!"

Matchy: "That's good to hear, and yes hes doing a terrific job so far! Second question for you is.." "With you being so young is it difficult playing in the team week in week out?"

Hughes: "Well, I wouldn't say it was difficult, obviously I have some disadvantages, one major one being my strength as I am young and not built like a complete footballer yet I do get knocked off the ball a bit, it does bother me and it's something that I'm trying change about my game, nobody likes getting knocked on the floor often, it's embarrassing!"

Matchy: "Well even though you see that as a weakness you still are a very talented young footballer, just look at the way you have played this season! You've got bags of assists and a few goals too!" "With you having such a good start to the season, surely it won't be long before the big clubs are alerted and start to take interest?"

Hughes: "I don't really take much notice of it all to be honest, I just want to do my best for this club, it is a club close to my heart and it would be hard for me to leave. Plus I am enjoying my football here, and I don't see why Derby can't become a big club and compete in the Prem sometime soon!"

Matchy: "By the sounds of it Will, you're a boy with his head planted firmly on his shoulders. I'm sure the Derby fans reading this will be very pleased, everyone loves a loyal, honest, ambitious player!" With such outstanding performances lately surely it's just a matter of time before England come calling?"

Hughes: "Hahaha, hopefully they will come knocking! it would be a great honour to walk out, sing the anthem and play for the country, it's every players dream! Hopefully I can achieve this one day!"

Matchy: "Well, you never know Will, the World Cup is drawing nearer and if you keep playing the way you have been playing, It'll be hard for old Roy not to consider you! Unfortunately that's all we've got time for today, but stay tuned because next week we have an interview with England and Liverpool skipper, Steven Gerrard! Thanks for your time Will and good luck with the rest of the season!"

Hughes: "Thanks, it was my pleasure!"
Great update! Even if i am a Forest fan ;)

December Review

Wigan (A) - We was very unfortunate too lose this game in my opinion, we deserved more from the game, we played some brilliant football, but the extra quality and Premier League experience was clear to see from the Wigan lads, took many positives from this defeat and hopefully we will be better come the game against Middlesbrough!

Derby:
  • Russell x2

Wigan:
  • McKay
  • Keogh
  • Mccann

Middlesbrough (H) - A great win, Middlesbrough was a good test for us, I learnt so much more from the lads, we was 1-0 down and fought back and grabbed the win, the lads showed character today, you could tell the frustration to go in at half time 1-0 and they came out all guns blazing!

Derby:
  • Russell
  • Ward
  • Sammon

Middlesbrough:
  • Kamara

Blackpool (H) - I was disapointed not to win this game, Blackpool have been awful this season and find themselves in 23rd position in the league, we wasted too many chances this game, it was one we really needed to take maximum points for to keep our momentum going in the league!

Derby:
  • Martin
  • Sammon

Blackpool:
  • Thomas
  • Henry

Charlton (A) - Another dissapointing draw against another poor team, no disrespect to Charlton, but we should of beat them easily, they're scrapping it out at the foot of the table, we really need to be more clinical in future games or we'll fall short of our targets this season...

Derby:
  • Russell x2

Charlton:
  • Jackson
  • Kermorgant

Doncaster (H) - A thumping win against the Yorkshire side, we was in devastating form in front of goal today, it was a great match to watch and everyone gave 100% from the first whistle to the last, was a fabulous all round display.

Derby:
  • Russell x2
  • Sammon
  • Ward

Doncaster:
  • Cotterill

Huddersfield (A) - Starting to develop a pattern here, winning against the Yorkshire sides, I'll take it as I am a Bradford fan and hate all the other teams so its great for me! But back to the match, a nice win against the Dog Botherers, very professional and saw the game out well!

Derby:
  • Hughes
  • Sammon

Huddersfield:
  • Vaughan

Barnsley (A) - A clean sweep and 3 wins out of 3 against the Yorkshire clubs, great result as they are usually a bogey team for many in this division, they aren't doing to shabby in the league either!

Derby:
  • Ramage (OG)

Barnsley:
  • N/A

Overall a very good month, went on a great run over the festive period, couldn't of asked for more from the lads, hopefully we can use this little run and build some momentum and really push to the end of the season now and we'll be up there come the end!

Player Of The Month

This month it has to go to Will Hughes, he's been incredible, and shown glimpses of what is to come in the future, he managed 4 assists and managed to score a goal too!
2014-01-03 14:24#152704 ltotheewis : Great update! Even if i am a Forest fan ;)

Cheers, haha I'm not a Derby fan don't worry, my team is Bradford City! ;)
Will Hughes is a beast! He'll lead you to Premier League. Keep it up!
2014-01-03 15:57#152733 kubik : Will Hughes is a beast! He'll lead you to Premier League. Keep it up!

He is indeed mate! it's just keeping hold of him, that's what I'm worried about!

Derby County Complete Double Swoop

Derby County have been active early in the January transfer window and have finalised the signing of two young stars.

Dedryck Boyata as we already know has moved to pride park and the transfer has full been completed and he joins for a fee believed to be of £160k, the young Belgian has been training with his new team ahead of the game against Wigan.

Second signing has come as a complete shock, the young England international Saido Berahino, has joined Championship promotion hopefuls for a fee believed to have been £1.2m plus add-ons. West Brom fans will be shocked that Clarke let the promising young lad leave, especially for so cheap! He was on the fringes of the first team at the West Midlands club and has only one Premier League appearance in a 2-1 against Hughes' Stoke.

Upon arrival at Pride Park, Saido had this to say:

"I'm very much looking forward to playing here at Derby, they have a fantastic set of fans! This is a big step in my career because now I will be playing regular football at a decent level, this will help me develop and hopefully I can add abit of something to help push for promotion!

The young lion can operate on either wing and is more than confident in front of goal too so it will be interesting to see where features at Derby, he had this to say:

"I'm very fortunate because I'm gifted enough to be able to play a few positions so that means I can offer different things to the team, It's better to be versatile because it gives the manager options all over the place, I would prefer to play up front. But, I am more than happy to play out wide if asked to!"
(Above, Berahino celebrating one of the goals at the Britannia earlier this season)

We spoke to the Derby manager earlier upon arrival at the training ground and he had this to say about his transfer dealings:

"Look, we've got a fantastic set of lads here and I felt that we needed maybe one or two more, and it was fantastic to the two lads, both are young and have a bright future in football. It also shows what we are trying to do here, we're building a team to be able to get out of this league and challenge in England's top division. The two new lads and the lads already here have the quality and desire to get us out of this division, so we just need to kick on and try gain promotion!"

January Review

Wigan (H) - Back to back loses against the Latics, we never really showed up today. We didn't look like a side that was battling for promotion, quite the opposite actually, we could even string 4 passes together. It was awful to watch! Dedryck and Saido watched from the stands hopefully we'll have both of them for the next game against Leicester...

Derby:
  • N/A
  • Buxton (S/O)

Wigan:
  • Watson x2

Leicester (A) - A great win away against one of our bitter rivals, couldn't of asked for more from the lads. They fought from first whistle too last, both sets of fans were great, an amazing atmosphere and both teams rose to the occasion, and lucky enough for me we won. Shame poor old sour Nigel spat his dummy out, twice hes slated me and twice it's backfired. Poor mans losing the plot over there! Both Dedryck and Saido came on to make their debuts for the last 15 minutes.

Derby:
  • Russell x3

Leicester:
  • Nuget x2

Brighton (H) - A great point for us, we was missing a couple of key men such as Hughes, Bryson and top scorer Russell, so we was happy to take the point considering they were all over us from first whistle to last.

Derby:
  • N/A

Wigan:
  • N/A

Blackburn (A) - A typical boring one goal game, but nevertheless we came back with the 3 points. Wasn't the best game to watch but oh well we still won, roll on the next game against Yeovil!

Derby:
  • Hughes

Blackburn:
  • N/A

Yeovil (H) - Excellent performance from the lads, Yeovil are sitting pretty in the league and find themselves occupying the final play off place so it was great to get a victory, they're doing tremendously in the league this season, Johnson really has got them going this year! On a brighter note Barker had returned from injury at the beginning of the month and was passed fully fit to play today.

Derby:
  • Sammon x2
  • Barker

Yeovil:
  • Dawson

Overall, another great month, yes we may have lost one but the rest of the games we performed really well, still slowly introducing the two new lads into the team, they haven't been starters yet as they are still getting used to the team and what job is expected of them out there, but its all going well so far, we're starting to put a good run of results together, hopefully more of the same in Feb!

Player Of The Month

This months PoTM award goes to Johnny Russell, hes been staying behind and putting extra graft into his training lately, mostly his shooting and passing and it has paid off due to his devastating form in the league this month, scoring 3 against Leicester, and set up 3.

Interest Mounts In Martin

7 months into his reign at Derby, manager Adam Martin is starting to make a name for himself. There is speculation about him leaving to fill the recently vacant spots at London club West Ham United as well as Championship side Queens Park Rangers, nothing is set in stone but it is believed should they come knocking it would be hard for him to turn it down.

Manager Martin has so far got under his belt:

15 Wins
10 Draws
8 Losses

Pretty impressive for a manager that has just burst onto the scene, Derby are sitting pretty in the league so far this season finding themselves in 5th place. SkyBET & BETFAIR have opened markets on which club we will go to and they are as followed:

Martin to leave and go to West Ham:

SkyBET - 1/4
BETFAIR - 1/3

Martin to leave and go to QPR:

SkyBET - 1/10
BETFAIR - 1/11

Martin to stay at Derby:

SkyBET - 1/20
BETFAIR - 1/33

The bookmakers clearly believe that Martin will leave Derby and go to a new club in the next month, watch this space to see how this story develops over the next week or so.
