Introduction

Greetings,

Welcome to my first football manager story! I have been a guest on this site for some time now, using the downloads and reading some of the stories and some are brilliant! So I thought I'd have a crack at one for myself as it looks like fun.

So Who Am I?

I am Derby County a team from the East Midlands, who you may remember from their not so spectacular stint in the Premier League back in 2006-07 where they went on to break the record for the QUICKEST TEAM TO BE RELEGATED from the Premier League. Shockingly it happened as early as March.. And since then have been battling it out in England's second division, the 'SkyBET Championship'

My Amibtions

I'm not going to be too ambitious saying that in two years I expect us to mount a title challenge in the Premier League, because that is unfair on me as a manager and the players at the club, I want to build and enhance their careers, not destroy them! So I feel for the time being these expectations are very fair and also achievable:

- Finish in Playoffs
- Reach Last 16 Of A Cup
- Integrate and Develop Youngsters

So without further ado, lets get this show on the road!

Very good start, good luck :)

Derby County Announce New Manager

After weeks of speculation it has been decided that less-known coach, Adam Martin will be given his 'big break' after becoming the manager of Championship side, Derby County. The 25 year old West Yorkshire man spoke to Sky Sports reporters earlier and had this to say:

"It's great to have finally agreed a deal here, and it has come as a great shock to be chosen, considering the amount of experience of the other men in for the job... Clarke, Mclaren, Holloway, and for me to be chosen that really is special, and I am determined not to let the chairman down, nor the fans of this fantastic football club. There's a great set of lads here that want to go on and be the best they can be, and it's my job to bring out their full potential and put this club back on the footballing map!"

When asked about his transfer policy Mr Martin had the following to say:

"As far as new signings go, I'm not sure to be honest... I'll have a look into the market, see what's available and if I think they can help the team push towards their goals, then I'll look to open negotiations, I've been given a very fair transfer & wage budget and It's my job to use it wisely, I will not put this club into jeopardy for the sake of 1 big name signing, I will look to be smart in the transfer market"

Martin also took a few questions about the future of his golden boys, Will Hughes & Mason Bennett and had this to say:

"Listen, as far as I'm concerned come September 2nd, Will and Mason will still be County players, I have no intention to sell, and I'm under no illusion that I have to either. I want to build this club up and these two are very much a part of my plans, first thing I will be looking to do is get Mason tied down for the long term, then we'll go from there. He may need a loan spell or two to further enhance his development, but we will have to wait and see, and as for Will, he remains an important part of my plans and will feature heavily this season for us!"

Derby County Announce Triple Swoop

Just a week into his reign at Pride Park, Mr Martin has wasted no time and jumped into the transfer market and has managed to pull three rabbits out of the hat.

The first of which is the former Fulham and Welsh international Simon Davis, the recently released wide man has signed up for the next year, with the option to extend after 25 games for a further season.

The second is former Newcastle United youth star Esteban Lopez, he joins shortly after being released by the Magpies, he has signed a three year deal and has released the following statement:

"I'm delighted to have found a new club so quickly after being released by Newcastle, yes it was hard to take but I got up, dusted myself down and kept going, football is my life and I am grateful for the chance that the gaffer (Adam Martin) has given me, and I hope to achieve big things in the future with this club!"

And finally, Wigan Athletic center-half Rob Kiernan joins on loan till the end of the season, this is probably down to the injury problems of O'Brien and Barker at Pride Park.

Also on the out, Mason Bennett has joined League One outfit Brentford on a 6 month loan spell, it is believed that it is to further enhance his development. This just recently after signing a new 4 year deal at the East Midlands club.

Good luck!

Derby County Preseason Results

It's fair to say the pre-season went as expected, a couple of wins which I fully expected. Especially with the talent that I have here, Russell and Sammon have had been prolific in front of goal lately and it's been a joy watch! However I wasn't particularly pleased with the performance against Mansfield, I know it's only preseason but I expect my lads to be beating them comfortably, but other than that I can't complain at all and I'm looking forward to the start of the season. Up The Rams!

Pre-season Analysis

Star performer: Will Hughes, 9 Assists from the 12 scored in preseason, couldn't ask for any more from the boy, he also scored a goal too!

Top Scorer: Johnny Russell, 6 goals and looks like he is raring to go, his link up play with Sammon has been brilliant

Surprise Package: Kieron Freeman, this lad has had a belter of a preseaon, brought him in to add some depth and when called upon he was great, I think this guy could play a key part this season, there's a lot of games so why not!

August Review

Blackburn (H) - I was disappointed to lose this game, with it being at home and being my first game in charge too, I was hoping to take all three points but unfortunately on the day, Jordan Rhodes was in inspired form and torn my black line a new whole in which to poo out of.

Chesterfield (H) - Much more like the side I saw glimpses of in preseason, but it was to lower opposition so I did expect them to do the job and they delivered.

Brighton & Leicester - If I was offered 4 points before a ball was kicked I'd of bitten your hand off for it, Brighton are a very good team as anyone will know, they have some quality players. Leicester was my first derby game and it was at home and it was a great spectacle, the fans chanting my name, everything going to plan, but I did pick up a new enemy along the way, Nigel Pearson (the silver fox) has taken a disliking to me so it should be interesting to see how this develops.

Yeovil & Sheffield - Was disappointing to lose two on the trot, especially in my opinion to easy opposition, Yeovil should be scrapping it out in the bottom half and we should have cained them, but that happens in football, nothing is ever predictable.

Burnley (H) - Finished the month off at home to promotion rivals Burnley, they have a great squad and I was very happy to pick up a win! Loved coming up against some real fighters and they battled us to the last minute of the game.

Overall, I don't think we had a bad month at all, yes maybe a couple of losses thrown in there. But for me, it was all about getting to know this team and seeing what I had at my disposal and how well they work with the tactic's I was wanting to enforce.

Player Of The Month

I don't think it can be anyone else but Conor Sammon, He has been in great form this month, contributed with a couple of goals, but also has put his head down and grafted for the team, popped up with 3 assists too, for a striker thats remarkable in a month because normally all they see is the goal, they dont often see that little pass that can make a difference!

Very nice updates!

September Review

Millwall (A) - The Rams went into the Lions den and lived to tell the tale, a magnificent performance by the lads, wasn't fazed by the hostile croud one bit, they got on with their job and we have to thank the 2000+ who made the journey down, they was out 12th man today!
(Goalscorers) - Russell x2 Derry

Bolton (A) - Another great performance, we fought till the end and we got our reward for our persistent knocking at the opposition door, couldn't of asked for a better spirited performance from the lads
(Goalscorers) - Russell x2, Sammon Ngog, Hall

Reading (H) - First and only home game of the month and we did our fans proud, beating playoff rivals Reading 2-1, a goal in either half to ensure we took all 3pts!
(Goalscorers) - Russell, Sammon Le Fondre

Notts Forest (A) - Away in the local derby to the tricky tree's, I wasn't going in expecting to win this one, they were on a 100% win record up until this fixture, I feared for us when we found ourselves 2-0 down by the 20th minute, but after halftime we kept knocking at the door and we finally managed to find a way through and scored a brace, a good point in my opinion.
(Goalscorers) - Sammon, Jacobs Blackstock, Cox

Overall, I am very happy with the month as a whole, the team looks like they're happy and have adapted to the tactic that I have brought in, fabulous performances and bags of goals, only concerning thing for me is the goals we are shipping but I'm sure we will rectify this as we go on.

Player Of The Month

This month it was tough to choose, so many could have easily walked away with it but there was one man who just edged it for me, and that is Russell, he's been in devastating form in front of goal this past month and I hope it continues for a while!

Tactics

Just in case anybody was wondering this is the tactic I have been using, it seems to fit the players and I am scoring a lot of goals doing so...

Goodness, Ross was on fire that month.

Indeed he was, if you think that was good you should see how he did over the rest of the season!
Nice September

Potential New Signing?

The morning training session was about to finish for lunch, it was great to see the lads really buying into what I am trying to do here, plenty of one touch football on display, nice one two's and great movement. Fitness levels were at all all time high and the players actually looked happy.. But one thing was playing on my mind we had a hell of a lot of injuries in the center back position. Our captain Barker has been out for around 19 months and still has another 3 left before he can even kick a ball yet, even then I don't know If he will come back the same player he was before the injury. Also Jake Buxton was going to be out for 4 months after a muscle tear. So I had no choice really I had to go in for another one, but I didn't want to panic buy.

Just as I called the morning session to a holt so the players could go for their lunches I received a text...

It was from Mr Daniel Lines, he was talking about the recent availability of his client Dedryck Boyata, for £160k that was a steal, he is a very dynamic and powerful young lad, pacey and strong can tackle it was worth the gamble as he has bags of potential too! So here goes nothing I picked up the phone and rang up Manchester City...
