MANAGER'S MONTHLY REVIEW

What a month we have had here in Aberdeen. The best start the club has made to the season since the reign of Fergie and we are top of the Scottish Premiership after 4 games. A great start to the season with a late but deserved win over Kilmarnock before an incredible performance at Fir Park with a 5-0 win. Then the game that I believe has truly kicked off our season. A tough test made tougher after falling behind for the first time this season from Lustig but Jonny Hayes and the whole team shone through to bag us a win. A fantastic performance lead to an easy win over Hearts at Tynecastle. I take the blame for what happened at Ibrox. I made 7 changes, 2 new debutants and it backfired so I apologise to Aberdeen fans for that but in a way this makes it easier for us to focus on the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

It could have easily been Niall McGinn or Peter Pawlett but I have to go with Jonny Hayes. He has the best average rating in the whole of Scotland, the 2nd most assists and goals here at Aberdeen and was the main man in our huge win against Celtic. Jonny is a fantastic player who's all round game has been important for us keeping our 100% record in the Scottish Premiership and for this he gets Aberdeen FC's Player of the Month award.
@P-KIDDY - it is, 100 percent record and Celtic 7 points behind going into international break, great start, hope you enjoy the rest of the story

Aberdeen 1-0 St Johnstone

Jonny Hayes wheels away in celebration after scoring against St Johnstone on BT Sport's live Monday Night game

Aberdeen maintained their winning start to the Scottish Premiership after a lackluster 1-0 win against St Johnstone at Pittodrie. Jonny Hayes goal just before the half-hour mark was enough to dispatch the Saints and record their 5th straight win of the league campaign. This keeps Aberdeen 5 points clear of 2nd place Hibs and 8 points clear of Celtic who sit 5th as the international break begins.

The game began as it finished, a slow tempo game which Aberdeen rarely felt pressure off St Johnstone and after the goal from Hayes, the Dons were happy to sit in and let the Saints pass it around. The key moment happened in the 28th minute when a great run from left-back Mark Reynolds led to a curved cross from the corner of the 18 yard box to the back post across the 6 yard box on the ground was met with a slide by Jonny Hayes who happily took his 4th goal of the season with ease. The best chance after the goal came from ex-Aberdeen man Rory Fallon who stung Jamie Langfield's gloves with a sizzling strike from distance but this was the biggest test the Aberdeen keeper faced on what was a disappointing spectacle for Saints fans and neutrals but for Dons fans, they went home happy as their team consolidated their 100% record.

PARTICK THISTLE 1-0 ABERDEEN

Muirhead (90)

Aaron Muirhead's reaction says it all after Partick Thistle ends Aberdeen's record run

A late goal from Aaron Muirhead ended Aberdeen's 100% record in the Scottish Premiership. The Partick Thistle captain was given the simple task of an easy tap-in from a rebound to give Partick Thistle their first win in 3 games and end Aberdeen's run of 5 games without defeat.

Aberdeen had the best chance of the first half when a slick passing move lead to new signing David Bentley having a chance from 20 yards which was brilliantly saved by Scott Fox in the Thistle goal. Aberdeen, who already have 14 goals from 4 games, thought they had 15 in 5 when Berry Powel smashed the ball into the net from the edge of the 18 yard box but the previous pass from Jonny Hayes to Niall McGinn who flicked it to Powel was deemed as offside although replays show that the referee's decision was incorrect. This came back to haunt the Dons as their inability to clear a Thistle corner lead to a John Baird shot on the edge of the box which Langfield parried out to the feet of Muirhead, who slotted the ball home to give Partick Thistle all 3 points at Firhill and hand Kieran Smyth his first league defeat as manager. Aberdeen's lead has now been cut down to 2 points by Hibs and 4 points by Celtic.

James Vincent after equalising against Aberdeen

Aberdeen were held to a 1-1 draw by Inverness at Pittodrie as Hibs shut down the gap on Aberdeen to level points.

Aberdeen got off to a blistering start and chances from Hayes, McGinn and Low were early warning signs for Caley Thistle. They failed to take up on these warnings. A beautiful run from Peter Pawlett was eventually stopped by Gary Warren before the loose ball fell to Jonny Hayes who scored his 5th of the season past Ryan Esson. Inverness needed only 5 minutes to respond to the goal when James Vincent fired home from 30 yards past the stunned Jamie Langfield who barely had time to react. Aberdeen threw on Vernon and Masson and had many chances to retake the lead but Esson and his goalframe were to thank for Inverness becoming the first team to deny Aberdeen a home win this season.

Aberdeen now sit on 16 points while a comfortable 2-0 win for Hibs against St Mirren put them on level points although Celtic stay 5 points behind after drawing with Dundee United.

Niall McGinn delighted after making it 3-0 at St Mirren Park

Aberdeen registered their first win in 3 games after comfortably beating St Mirren 4-1 in Paisley.

Jonny Hayes opened up the scoring after firing the ball across David Cornell in the St Mirren goal to give Aberdeen a 1-0 lead before 20 minutes. Berry Powel, who had switched roles with Niall McGinn and became the lone striker powered through the St Mirren defence and won a penalty when he was brought down by Lee Mair. The man nicknamed "The Flying Dutchman" by the Red Army put St Mirren to the sword as he blasted his penalty into the top corner to give the Dons a 2 goal lead before half time. Niall McGinn ended any hope of a Saints comeback when he chipped Cornell from 25 yards out to give the Dons a 3 goal advantage. Michalis Konstantinou scored 55 seconds into his debut when he got a toe onto Hayes cross to grab himself a debut goal with his first touch. Gary Teale scored a consolation goal when he guided a Jim Goodwin header past Jamie Langfield to restore some honour and start a 15 minute barrage by the men in Black and White but by then it was too little, too late and Aberdeen stay 2 points ahead of Celtic.

Hey guys, I hope you've enjoyed the story so far and will enjoy in the near future, however, due to writing match reports for every game etc, I am losing the fun in the game so what I have decided to do from the game month October 1st, I will do a monthly round-up of all my games like I usually do at the end of every month instead of a match report for every single game. I will still do news reports on major incidents, transfer news and I will do match reports for major games i.e Huge in deciding what position I will finish, cup games, Celtic and Rangers and European games but hopefully this will bring the fun back, get the story moving quicker and hope you enjoy it.
