MANAGER'S MONTHLY REVIEW

It's been an up and down month for Aberdeen FC. We started league football in September as we ended league football in August with a win in what was a very poor game of football against St Johnstone although the result was the main priority. Then our first league defeat. In what has probably been our best display, we played a brilliant game, played Thistle off the park and had chance after chance after chance but we were made to pay for it in the last minute and we lost 3 points we should have not. The Inverness game was another game where failing to take our chances cost us points and we were lucky it was only 2 points this time around. We hit top form against St Mirren with a fantastic win in which Berry was in a league of his own. 2 assists and a goal was the perfect game. Overall, this has been a topsy-turvy month but the main thing is that Aberdeen are top of the Scottish Premiership for the second month running.

Player of the Month again has got to go to Jonny Hayes. He's added 3 goals and became the league's top goalscorer and has been the best player in Scotland. He is apart of what is the most lethal striker force in Scotland in my opinion and he deserves all the praise he gets. There is rarely a time where Hayes has had a bad game and he is one of the most phenomenal talents I've ever worked with.
Nice writing and some good results! I'm enjoying the story so far ;)

MANAGER'S MONTHLY REVIEW

For the third month running, Aberdeen are top of the Scottish Premiership. Not by much, I may stress. We got off to a poor start to the month in a game we totally dominated and should have finished off before Ross equalised for Ross County and stole a point and that was a bad 2 points to lose. My first New Firm derby at Pittodrie and it was an exciting occasion to be at. We got off to the perfect start through Barry but then Rocchi beautifully equalised. Then it happened again. We lost another goal with this one throwing away a point with the potential for 3 and losing 3 points in a big game. A theme that is repeating itself is the amount of late goals we lost that cost us points (Thistle, County, United) and it needs to stop. A fantastic win against a Hibs side at Easter Road is brilliant enough but doing it after going 1-0 down is even more incredible. We stay top of the league level with Celtic staying ahead on goal difference but we need to pick up our performance levels if we want to keep our expectations of European football.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

http://www.hafc.nl/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Berry-Powel.jpg

The Flying Dutchman wins the Player of the Month award for Aberdeen FC. Berry has been an unsung hero in our rise to the top and now he has shown his worth in the lone striker with 2 goals and an assist in the 3 games. I truly believe Berry will get kicking on from this successful month for himself and become a big influence for Aberdeen in our European qualification challenge.

Niall McGinn is crowded by jubilant team-mates after equalising at Celtic Park

Aberdeen held Celtic to a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park thanks to a Niall McGinn equaliser to cancel out John Arne Riise's penalty. The result leaves Aberdeen top of the Scottish Premiership with Celtic closely behind.

The match was being billed as the most crucial match there has been in Scotland since Rangers were demoted to the Third Division as a good result for Aberdeen would show they are serious contenders to Celtic's dominance. The game started at a fast tempo and there was chances for both teams, from McGeouch of Celtic when he hit the post with a 25 yard shot while a world-class Fraser Forster save denied Willo Flood a first goal in Aberdeen colours. Aberdeen's game plan was to contain Celtic and catch them on the counter and it was working until the 15th minute. James Forrest dribbled past surprise starter Herita Ilunga and Jonny Hayes recovered ground on Forrest only to bring the Celtic winger down with a reckless challenge in the box. Norwegian left-back John Arne Riise stepped up to score his 3rd goal of the season with all coming from the penalty spot. Aberdeen tried to immediately replied and came close when Forster had to claw away a fantastic Barry Robson freekick. The English goalkeeper was on top form and it seemed nothing could beat "The Great Wall". Or so it seemed. Peter Pawlett chipped the ball to Niall McGinn who fired a shot from the corner of the 18 yard box at the near post and it seemed the big Geordie had it covered until the ball all of a sudden went through Forster's legs and into the back of the net. Both teams had chances to win it. Forrest hit the bar from the edge of the box, Mulgrew put a free header over the bar and Virgil Van Dijk blasted a volley off the post while Niall McGinn slipped as he attempted to hit a shot at Forster and Andrew Considine's header was blocked on the line by Lustig.

Overall, the Dons will be more pleased with the draw as they now stay 1 point ahead of Celtic on 30 while the current champions trail on 29 points as the Premiership approaches the halfway point with Aberdeen firmly in the title hunt.

MANAGER'S MONTHLY REVIEW

It's been a great month for Aberdeen FC. A couple of wins and an important draw could become crucial later in the season in our race to European Football. A good win over an improving Partick Thistle side and it was nice revenge giving them their first defeat in 5 after they gave us our first defeat in 5 in September. Against Hearts, I operated a new formation of an attacking 4-5-1 and it has proved to be successful although it took a little while to click into gear against Hearts but we eventually got the win heading into our biggest game of the season. Celtic Park was the next destination. The champions awaited and we had a massive following from the Red Army for this match. Riise opened the scoring with what has to be one of the most ridiculous penalty decisions I have ever seen in my career. We got our justice with Niall slipping the ball past Fraser and we had chances to win it but the draw was the main aim and it was achieved as we head into the festive period top of the Premiership again.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

http://www.afc.co.uk/javaImages/93/49/0,,10284~12274067,00.jpg

Player of the month goes to Niall McGinn. Niall has shown his quality and has popped up in big games over the month for us with the winner against Hearts and his equaliser against Celtic. He is a versatile player who plays in several different positions and yet always has a same level of consistency and influence in a match.

Scott Vernon's delight at putting Aberdeen 4-0 up at Forthbank.

Aberdeen coasted to a 4-0 win over Strling Albion in the Scottish Cup with Scott Vernon bagging a brace. The result was followed by the Fifth Round draw and Aberdeen's reward is an away trip to Tynecastle to face Hearts.

Aberdeen made 9 changes from the side that held Celtic to a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park with Langfield & Magennis the only survivors from that line-up while Stirling Albion were unchanged from the team that bagged Stirling their first win in 7 games against Peterhead. This really was a David vs Goliath contest with Aberdeen leading the Scottish Premiership while Stirling Albion are bottom of Scotland's League Two.

Stirling held Aberdeen very well for 20 minutes limiting the Dons to long range chances but it was only a matter of time before their resistance was broken and it came through a set-piece. A Gregg Wylde corner was poorly cleared and Russell Anderson side-footed the ball into the bottom corner of Jamie Cleland's goal. Scott Vernon grabbed the second after he was slipped in by Gregg Wylde and the Englishman tucked the ball away to give the Dons breathing space. Another set-piece was Albion's undoing and it was a Gregg Wylde freekick which Jordan White put into his own net under pressure from Jamie Masson. Aberdeen took the foot off the gas after this 13 minute barrage of the League 2 side but Scott Vernon was hungry for more goals and he got his 2nd of the game after capitalising on a poor back-pass from Chris Smith before taking the ball around Cleland to put the ball into the empty net.

This was a David vs Goliath affair but David could not slay the Giant as Aberdeen stomped all over Stirling Albion to bag a place in the last 16 where they will meet Hearts away in the tie of the round.

SMYTH AGREES TO NEW CONTRACT

Aberdeen Football Club is proud to announce the contract extension of manager Kieran Smyth. The contract extension will see the 16 year old in charge of the Dons until May 2016. The Dons are currently enjoying one of our best starts to a season, sitting in 1st place and in the last 16 of the William Hill Scottish Cup. Smyth (pictured above after signing the contract) had a chat with RedTV after signing the extended deal and spoke of his delight.

"It really was unexpected, my previous contract had me in charge until this May and there was no indication by Stewart that he was gonna offer a new contract. I'm so proud to have prolonged my stay at Aberdeen Football Club and I hope I can achieve great things from now until 2016". When asked if he would prolong his stay beyond 2016, Smyth jokingly made a reference to Donald Trump, the American billionaire who had his bid to build a Scottish Golf Course rejected. "Maybe Donald can invest in Aberdeen, give the club a lot of cash and maybe I'll stay" Smyth said as he tried to hold his laughter before revealing "But on the serious side, I would like to stay at Aberdeen as long as possible and if Stewart Milne at some point wants the club to go in a different direction then I'll know my time is up but for now, I'm proud that I'll be currently staying until the end of the 2015/16 season".

MANAGER'S MONTHLY REVIEW

My worst month as manager of Aberdeen and it comes after I signed a long-term contract to remain at Pittodrie. I think I'll keep this short and sweet. Good performance against Stirling. Failure to take chances against both St Johnstone and St Mirren cost us a minimum of 4 points and then our worst performance of the season came against Inverness. A wonder goal from Michalis and a penalty were our only attacks. Inverness dominated us in every department and we have to try and get that out of our minds as it clearly affected our performances against Motherwell and Ross County where we were lucky to take 2 points. To combat this, I have made 2 new signings which I will confirm when transfer window opens.

I really had to think long and hard to choose a player of the month but if I had to pick, I would go for David Bentley. Struggled with injuries since joining, it has been his first injury free month and he has chipped in with a couple of assists and a couple of decent performances but nothing spectacular.

Aberdeen Football Club are proud to announce the capture of both Lewis MacLeod of League 1 Rangers and Conor Newton of Newcastle United. Both players have agreed 3-year deals with the club and both cost in the region of £220,000 with MacLeod costing £200,000. Both midfielders told RedTV of their delight at being apart of the Aberdeen set-up and they can't wait to get started at Pittodrie. Both will be hoping for starting debuts in the New Year New Firm derby against Dundee United.

Aberdeen won the New Firm derby against Dundee United at Tannadice 2-1. Goals from David Bentley and Andrew Considine gave the Dons a 2 goal cushion before a Mark Wilson consolation 8 minutes from time provided hope for United but it was the Red Army celebrating at the final whistle.

Aberdeen got off to the perfect start when a fluid passing move was given a final touch of perfection by David Bentley who bagged his first Aberdeen goal. Aberdeen's second also involved the English winger when his free-kick defleted off Mark Wilson into the path of Andrew Considine who fired the ball home to give the Dons some breathing space. Dundee United scored 8 minutes from time when Mark Wilson fired home a spectacular 25 yard free kick past Jamie Langfield. United threw everything they had at Aberdeen but the Red Army was resilient until the end and held on for their first 3 points since 11th November, 8 league games ago and it sends Aberdeen 2nd, 2 points ahead of St Johnstone and 8 points behind Celtic.

ABERDEEN MAKE TWO SIGNINGS

The Sun can exclusively confirm that Scottish Premirship side Aberdeen have completed the signings of St Mirren striker Steven Thompson for £300,000 and the free transfer of Portsmouth midfielder Jed Wallace who will join upon the expiry of his contract which is 1st June 2014. Thompson is Smyth's third piece of business in the current transfer window as the 16 year old looks to gel a team together in time for European Football should Aberdeen finish in the top 3 or win the Scottish Cup. There will be more to follow on this story and whether Thompson, the current top goalscorer in Scotland will be immediately drafted in in place of in-form Scott Vernon or Aberdeen's top goalscorer Niall McGinn.

MANAGER'S MONTHLY REVIEW

Talk about starting a New Year with a bang. A fantastic performance from the team over January to fire us into a healthy lead in the race for Europe and puts us 7 points behind Celtic heading into the new month with our first game. Pittodrie. Celtic. Title-decider pretty much. The win over United finally ended that horrible run we went on and created a much better winning streak of 3 games in a row and 4 out of 5 in a month with United first, Kilmarnock away was a great result at one of our bogey grounds, the Hibs victory was almost a relief to win after dominating so long as we did but struggled to find the net till late. Inverness is our bogey team without a doubt, something about the Caley Jags, they are like our Kryptonite and it was points and ground lost. Got back on track with a fantastic win over Motherwell considering Hayes and McGinn are both out for 2 months each now.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

http://ultimateteamtrading.net/imgs/14/players/204360.png

Player of the Month is without a doubt Conor Newton, 4 starts, 3 assists, 3rd highest average rating in Aberdeen behind Hayes and McGinn of all people. Conor is going to be one for the future and one for the present as he is a world class talent. Him and Lewis have already formed a phenomenal partnership in the middle of the park and have been instrumental in our successful streak so far in 2014 with Conor being one of our main attacking threats along with Berry, Steven and Peter.

Riise (48 OG)

Aberdeen fans display before the game at Pittodrie

Aberdeen moved to within 4 points of Celtic after a crucial win over the league leaders in the Scottish Premiership. John Arne Riise put the ball into his own goal as Aberdeen held on despite constant Celtic pressure for the full game to record their second win over Celtic this season and remain unbeaten against Neil Lennon's side this season.

Aberdeen came into the game 7 points behind knowing that any chance they had of staying in the title race required something from this match. Celtic had the early chances as Simeone put a chance past the post, Charlie Mulgrew had his free kick saved brilliantly by Jamie Langfield and Nir Biton had his header denied by the post all before half time. Aberdeen had a couple of chances themselves as Peter Pawlett drove through the Celtic defence before Forster saved his shot and Steven Thompson put his shot just wide of the goal. 3 minutes into the second half, the moment that has perhaps changed the dynamic of this enthralling season occurred. Berry Powel got past Lustig and sent a cross across the 6 yards box which John Arne Riise, who was trying to clear the ball, completely caught it wrong and it spun over Forster's head and into the back of the net. Pandemonium at Pittodrie and fans were starting to believe they were about to beat Celtic again. Celtic were determined to get back in the match and had several chances on goal with the best coming from Joe Ledley when his header was cleared off the line by Ryan Jack. Aberdeen had a chance to kill the game 4 minutes from the end when substitute and debutant Lawrence Shankland was denied by a world-class save from Fraser Forster.

The Dons held on for what could be their most crucial win of the season as they established a 14 point gap over Ross County in the race for Europe and moved to 4 points within champions Celtic.
