Montreal Impact name former New York Cosmos boss Mike Korrigan as head coach.

The Montreal Impact announced on Wednesday that Korrigan has been named head coach. Having signed a three deal with the Canadian club, he will bringing in a few of his Cosmos players in.

This is Korrigan's first job in MLS. With his announcement he will become the league's youngest head coach at the age of 29 when the season starts. Previously he was the head coach of two clubs, Northern Virginia Royals (2014) and New York Cosmos (2015). During both spells he won the respective leagues.

Unlike many other head coaches Mike has never played the game professionally. According to an interview last season done by the New York Times, Korrigan was a late bloomer to the sport and has been studying the coaching and tactical side of the sport. "I was never really a soccer fan but when I saw my first game I feel in love with the technical aspect of the game and wanted to become a coach," said Korrigan during the interview.

It is not known what members of the old staff will be staying or leaving. We are speculating that he will be bringing Brian McBride to become the clubs general manager or in another position. McBride has been a part of Korrigan's staff since 2014.

His first day on the job will be on January second.

PERSONAL LOG NUMBER 9
January 10,2016:

http://www.mymontrealcondos.com/images/168x128/img/Tour-Des-Canadiens-Building-Rendering-evening.jpg

I just want to start this off by saying Allez Montréal!!

This is my first log since joining the Impact. So far Montreal has been a real treat for me. I am living in a condo right near the Bell Centre. I heard about these condos back in 2012 while listening to TSN 690. So I thought I would live here and there were available apartments. Man it's great I even got an option to get season tickets with the Habs. Yes I took them. Even though there might be times that I can't go I love that I can see one of the best teams in NHL history

Adjusting to life in Quebec is not hard at all honestly since I do speak Québécois fluently. Thanks to all the years of French class and having family from Quebec this helps a lot. Yeah that is one thing I never said here is that I am a duel citizen of both the US and Canada so that was a key to getting this job. The girlfriend and I broke up back in November. Well it's her loss but hey I get to save money and Canadian ladies are the best.

I still can't believe that I will be 29 when the season starts. It feels like yesterday that I was starting out in Manassas with the Royals. They are still a great team last season they won title number 3. So now it is time to see if I can work with big time professionals. Tomorrow they return to camp. I hope they like me and are willing to work with me. In a few weeks we get the preseason friendlies underway with a match against the Vermont Voltage.

I get to meet with the journalist next week for my first press conference. This will be interesting since it will be in both languages. I hope I don't say something stupid or inappropriate to the media. It still amazes me that I am now coaching in MLS and that means there is no turning back, I have found my home...well hopefully.

Is it crazy that I want to get the Impact more titles than our friends the Montreal Canadiens?

Press Release

MONTREAL- The 2016 edition of the MLS Supplemental Draft was busy for new manager Mike Korrigan since they did not have a pick in the Super Draft a week ago. Most of these guys will be loaned out or released once training camp is over.

Round 1:
Will Brisson
DM, Kitsap Pumas

Round 2:
Casey Smith
AM, Laredo Heat

Round 3:
Steve Farfan
ST, New York Magic

Round 4:
Yobani Velasco
D, St. Louis Lions
Nice log entry and awesome picks in my opinion keep it up!
I've only ever been to the Western side of Canada (Vancouver, British Columbia) so I don't really know much about Montreal, other than they speak French.

One question, what is the supplemental draft?

Montreal as well as Quebec is very beautiful.

The supplemental draft is kind of hard to explain so here you go! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MLS_Supplemental_Draft

Two join Impact

Press Release

MONTREAL- It has been about a month since Korrigan took over and he is already making moves for the Impact.

Philippe Davies joins Montreal from USL PRO side Richmond Kickers for a fee of $7k. During his three seasons in Richmond Davies he made 87 appearances while scoring nine goals. Before joining Montreal Davies played for Canadian rival Vancouver Whitecaps.

The next signing is 26 year old Scottish striker David Goodwille. The once promising striker is looking to revive his career with the Impact after a few disappointing years while playing in England. At the end of the 2015/16 season Goodwille was released by Sky Bet Championship side Blackburn. "I am glad to be playing football once again and I hope I can help lead Montreal to the top," said Goodwille on twitter.

Korrigan is still in the market for new faces and will continue to find ways to improve the squad. Currently 31 year old Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene is on trial with the club until the end of the month.

Interview with Mike Korrigan

We recently sat down with new Impact de Montreal boss Mike Korrigan a day into training camp to talk about the club, his career and other things.

Patrick Friolet: "Bonjour Michael parlez-vous français?"

Mike Korrigan: "Oui je peux, mais je suis beaucoup mieux à l'anglais!"

Patrick Friolet: "How has life been in Montreal has it been hard on you?"

Mike Korrigan: "Not really I have a very firm grasp of the language and I feel like Montreal was meant for me."

Patrick Friolet: "Meant for you? What do you mean?"

Mike Korrigan:
"Well other than family being from here and I have always had a fascination with French Canadian culture."

Patrick Friolet: "With your hiring many are skeptic that you are going to leave after one year like your previous two jobs, what do you say about this?"

Mike Korrigan: "Well they need to understand that my dream was to coach in MLS so I am finally here and I won't leave until I get fired haha, also the thing with the lower levels is that there is a ton of movement when you are successful. I got lucky that I was able to move through the system and get to MLS."

Patrick Friolet: "In your opinion what will it need to take for you to have a successful season?"

Mike Korrigan: "Well we have to win the Canadian Championship and make the playoffs, if we don't do either this season is a failure."

Patrick Friolet: "Well tha'ts it, thanks Mike!"
Mike Korrigan; "It was a pleasure hopefully we can talk again soon.!"
Nice interview and go Habs! The only NHL team my dad can name off the top of his head :P
