Costa: We Can Qualify For France 2016!

Gibraltar manager Rui Costa has today declared that he thinks his Gibraltar side can qualify for the 2016 European Championships in France. Costa, who has only just became the manager of the national team, has stated in an interview that he believes his side have a good chance of qualifying for the European Championships. Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News, Costa was very enthusiastic about his side. C= Costa R= Reporter

R- “Well Rui, thankyou for coming down today to take part in this interview, now first things first, have you figured out any targets to set yourself for the Gibraltan national team?”
C- “Yeah, actually, since day one I’ve been doing some thinking and to be honest, I believe we can actually qualify for the 2016 European Championships in France. I know we may not have the best squad around but I’m confident that we can qualify. If the lads pull together, work as a team and then we could start to gain points and definitely qualify from our group, regardless of who our opponents are.”
R- “Don’t you think that’s a bit ambitious?”
C- “No, because it’s true, if we work hard then we can definitely qualify for the finals, I don’t see why not.”
R- Ok then, do you have any ambitions to go into club management?”
C- “Yeah, club management is something I would love to do, I have already applied for a few jobs but got turned down, so I’m keeping my options open.
R- “Thankyou Rui for speaking to us, that will be all thanks, it’s been a pleasure to have you here.”
C- “Thankyou for having me here for the interview, I’ll remember this day for a long time.”
Little suggestion, put a space in between 'Thank you' but otherwise, a national story right now = me keeping a eye out, good luck!

Thanks! Will remember that about the space thing, i'll get round to editing it some time. And i'll need more than look if i'm going to even draw a game
Good luck ! Costa A good choice ! I hope to qualify!
I know, was a great player. And it would be great if we could qualify, but it's really unlikely we will.
I remember his in his Young Years he was so good!! hopefully he will be just as good as a coach :)

August, September and October Results

August

Costa's Opinion: The game didn't exactly go to plan, i know it was the first game while i have been in charge, but i was at least hoping for a slightly better performance. Nevertheless, a goal wasn't that bad against a team inside the top 50 rankings.

September

Costa's Opinion: This month’s round of friendlies really did not go to plan. In the game against China PR I saw a lot of positives, mainly the fact we had more possession and had a few chances in the game so I was disappointed with the result. The Georgia game I will not even comment on, as it was just horrific, and even though we had no chance from the off, I still thought we could have had more of an impact on the game.

October

Costa's Opinion: The fixtures this month were meant to be easy in my opinion, but obviously not. The Kenya game disappointed me as I clearly felt that we could have won the match. We kept taking the lead only to end up losers, but the fact we had more possession and scored 4 goals really impressed me. The Canada game was one to forget, like every other game we had played as it was our 5th straight defeat. I know the side are not exactly great, but i would have at least hoped for a draw in one of these games.
Tough opposition. Good try mate!

Swindon Town Appoint Costa

League 1 side Swindon Town have today appointed Gibraltar manager Rui Costa as the clubs new manager until June 2015. Former AC Milan and Benfica midfielder Costa, who has lost all of his 5 games in charge of the Gibraltan national side, is reportedly being given a wage of £1,400 per week as he attempts to keep Swindon in League 1 and avoid relegation, having taken over with the club languishing in 21st place with just 12 points. Chairman Lee Power has been criticised by a number of Swindon Town fans for hiring Costa, who before Gibraltar had no managerial experience and with Gibraltar, he has yet to win from any of his 5 games in charge and fans have been protesting outside the County Ground since his appointment was officially confirmed on the clubs website. Costa, who has been lying low since being appointed, said this when speaking to Sky Sports News, “I’m delighted to have been given the chance to manage Swindon Town, they are a fantastic club with a fantastic heritage, and I firmly believe they have got enough quality to be challenging higher in the table than where they are now in 21st place. I know I do not have much managerial experience and that my performances with Gibraltar have not exactly been good enough, but I’m hoping the fans can put that to side and allow me to come into the club, let me implement my free flowing, attacking and possessive football and try and help the club climb the table. I also entered talks with Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United in the Championship, so it kind of says something that people think I have managerial talent and the ability to lead teams to success, but I’m pleading with the fans to give me a chance”. Costa’s first game in charge will be against Port Vale at home, where Swindon are hoping to better previous results after 3 defeats from their last 4 games.
Good luck at Swindon, I'm sure you can turn it around there! :)
Good luck, mate! Hope you can bring glory to Swindon! It'll be hard but tbh you have gotten Gibraltar playing half decent!:P
Thanks:) and i'm not gonna lie, the progress i have made since joining them has been amazing and better than first expected! And Gibratar are playing well, but i'm gonna change the tactic round as they keep messing up in games
