Ghanaian youngster joins as Steven Taylor leaves Newcastle
Newcastle United have announced the departure of long serving centre back Steven Taylor, who has left to sign for relegation threatened Leicester City.
Taylor had been with Newcastle since the age of nine, making a total of 197 league appearances for the club. A former England U-21 international, Taylor never managed to break through into the senior set-up.
The 28-year-old captained Newcastle on several occasions, but found himself frozen out of the team this season with the arrival of Ron Vlaar, who formed a strong partnership with official club captain Fabricio Coloccini.
Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson parted with £2.3 million to sign the strong centre back, who has had experience in the second tier of English football with Newcastle, which could prove useful should The Foxes get relegated from the Barclays Premier League this season.
Meanwhile, Alan Pardew has announced a new signing - Ghana U20 international Kevin Tano has signed for the club from Belgian side Royal Antwerp, who have links with Manchester United.
Tano plays as a winger and has previously played for Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag. The youngster was in the last year of his contract with Antwerp, and Newcastle have signed him for a small fee of £43,500.
It is thought that the 18-year-old will go back out on loan to an English side, where it is hoped that his skills develop.
