Promising Spanish duo sign for Newcastle United

Sergi Roberto and Rubén García have become the second and third players to swap La Liga for Newcastle United in the Barclays Premier League.

The Spanish duo are big prospects, and Sergi Roberto, who turned 22 earlier this year played sixteen games for Barcelona as they took back their place as league champions from Atletico Madrid, who had won La Liga the previous year.

However, after the celebrations were over, Mánager del Año Luis Enrique decided that the time was right for Roberto to leave, after eight years with the club, having joined at the age of 14.

Roberto was placed on the transfer list after some distinctly average performances last season, scoring one goal in sixteen games while playing as a central midfielder.

All but three of his appearances came from the bench, but he is still a very promising player, although he is yet to make his international debut for Spain, having played 13 times at U21 level.

Newcastle have paid Barcelona a surprisingly low fee of £1.6 million for the young playmaker's services.

The other player joining Newcastle is Rubén García of Levante, who had a better season than Sergi Roberto, making 27 appearances for the side who finished 14th.

Roberto mustered up six goals while playing on the left wing, but despite being labelled as a 'wonderkid' by many pundits, he has only made one six appearances at all youth levels in the Spain set-up.

With this signing, Hakim Ziyech, who signed for Newcastle from Heerenveen last week is almost certain to go out on loan, with Garcia expected to battle it out with Frenchman Remy Cabella for a spot on the left wing.

Newcastle met an £8.5 million release clause in the Spaniard's contract, bringing the total spent by the club so far this summer above the £20 million mark.

Jeison Murillo was the first La Liga player to leave for Newcastle, having signed for £12 million earlier this week.

Transfer news: Newcastle United confirm four departures

Newcastle have announced the exits of Jack Colback, Ryan Taylor, Mario Yepes and Rob Elliot.

Jack Colback only joined the club in summer of last year from bitter rivals Sunderland on a free transfer, but the 24-year-old only managed to make one league start for the team, with another two appearances coming from the bench, being kept out by the likes of Davide Santon and Marcell Jansen.

The Tyneside born fullback, who can also play as a midfielder has joined newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers for just under £2 million (£1.9m).

Rumours hinted that Alan Pardew will look to bring in a back-up to Marcell Jansen having already sold Davide Santon and loaning out French fullback Massadio Haïdara to league rivals Aston Villa, but Pardew has recalled Welshman Paul Dummett from his loan spell at Reading, and it looks like the 22-year-old will provide cover for the German Jansen.

Meanwhile, former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Rob Elliot has moved on to Inverness Caledonian Thistle for a fee of £1 million. Like Colback, Elliot found his first team opportunities very limited, making one appearance in Newcastle's Capital One Cup campaign - conceding three goals to Sky Bet Championship side Huddersfield, as The Magpies scraped through on a penalty shootout.

Elliot joined Newcastle in 2010 for £200,000, but Dutch international Tim Krul has kept him out of the side for a long time, and also warded off competition from long serving goalkeeper Steve Harper, who moved to Hull City in 2013.

With the recent arrival of Benoît Costil from Stade Rennais, and 21-year-old goalkeeper Jack Alnwick ready to provide back-up if need be, Pardew felt there was no place for Elliot in the squad, and transfer listed the 28-year-old Irishman.

The final departure from St James' Park is fullback Ryan Taylor, who joined the club in a swap deal for Frenchman Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan in 2009.

Previously a regular for Newcastle, Taylor was also frozen out of the side since Mathieu Debuchy signed for the club, and Daryl Janmaat taking Debuchy's place following his departure to Arsenal last summer.

Taylor, who was born in Liverpool began his career with local side Tranmere Rovers, before making the step up to Wigan Athletic, who were in the Barclays Premier League at the time.

The 30-year-old has joined Blackburn Rovers for a fee of £575,000 and will play in the second tier of English football for only the second time in his career, having previously helped Newcastle to win promotion from the Championship in 2010.

El Neny and Sørensen sign, with 'big' signing on the way

Newcastle have completed deals to bring Mohamed El Neny and Frederik Sørensen to the club.

These latest arrivals means that there have been a total of eight players signed by Alan Pardew so far in this transfer window, in what seems to be a busy summer for the team, who are hoping to make the step up to European football this season.

Danish defender Frederik Sørensen has joined from Brøndby IF, having previously played for Italian giants Juventus, and fellow Serie A side Bologna, on loan from La Vecchia Signora.

He moved to Danish Superliga side Brøndby on a free transfer last season after being deemed surplus to requirements by incoming manager Massimiliano Allegri.

The 22-year-old made 21 appearances before signing for Newcastle for a fee of £1.8 million. Despite featuring regularly at early stages of his career, Sørensen has never made his senior debut for the Denmark side, with manager Morten Olsen preferring the partnership of Liverpool's Daniel Agger and Aston Villa's Jores Okore.

He has represented the U21 side on 13 occasions.

Meanwhile Egyptian midfielder Mohamed El Neny has also signed a contract with Newcastle United, putting pen to paper on a five year contract.

He joins from FC Basel after two seasons with the club, and played with fellow countryman Mohamed Salah, now of Chelsea, at both Basel and El Mokawloon in his home nation.

He is expected to replace Morgan Scheniderlin, who left for Liverpool in a £20 million deal earlier this summer.

El Neny also considered an offer from Juventus, but signed for Newcastle United on a higher wage.

The 22-year-old has represented Egypt at senior level on 37 occasions, scoring twice, and the central midfielder, who can also be utilized in a defensive midfield role, signs for Newcastle for £8.25 million as their summer spending spree continues.

Manager Alan Pardew has promised that one more signing will come into the club this summer, while outgoing transfers could still happen.

The 54-year-old guarantees that he is close to agreeing a deal to bring a 'big' signing to St James' Park.

"I've been discussing personal teams with a really exciting player over the past couple of weeks. I've agreed a fee with his club, and at this point, I'm really just waiting for him to make up his mind over whether or not he wants to sign the club. If he does, it's going to be really big for this club, and he'll definitely help us.

He'll almost definitely be the last signing, should he decide to join us, unless any other great opportunities like this one present themselves to us.

I've had a few other offers for our players, but you shouldn't be expecting any more key players to leave us, no matter what we're offered."
Nice signing, but I'm more excited about the 'big' signing! ;)
Wonder who it could be? :/
great signings man; interesting to see who the mystery player is!

Attacking pair leave the club - big name signing to replace

Papiss Cissé and Emmanuel Rivière have left the club this evening, with Alan Pardew revealing more about the exciting signing that the club have lined up - by saying that Rivière and Cissé will be replaced by him.

Papiss Cissé, 29, was placed on the transfer list at St James' Park midway through last season following a poor start to the season for the striker, Loïc Rémy's signing in January and the recent good performances of Siem de Jong. However, potential suitors were put off by Newcastle's £6 million asking price, and steered clear of the Senegalese forward who joined from SC Freiburg in 2012.

With it announced last week that a marquee signing would be joining the club shortly, Alan Pardew revealed in a press conference earlier today that Cissé, who scored the Barclays Premier League Goal of the Season in 2012 with a long range strike against Chelsea, would be leaving to pave the way for the marquee signing.

Cissé fetched a fee of £2.4 million, a slight loss on the £6 million that was paid for him in 2012, and will join French Ligue 1 side FC Lorient.

Newcastle had their fair share of troubles with the attacker, who, in 2013, initially objected to Newcastle United's current shirt-sponsorship deal with loan company 'Wonga' due to religious reasons. Islam considers promoting usury or financial exploitation to be 'forbidden'.

The issue was eventually resolved, but during the debate, Cissé was spotted gambling in a Newcastle casino - also considered unethical in Islam.

Cissé will most fondly be remembered by Newcastle United fans for his strike partnership with former Toon striker Demba Ba between 2012 and 2013.

Meanwhile, French striker Emmanuel Rivière has left for Germany, just one year after signing from AS Monaco for a fee believed to be around £6 million.

The uncapped France striker signs for Hoffenheim for a fee in the region of £5.5 million, after playing thirteen league games last season, mostly out of position as he could not take a starting spot ahead of Loïc Rémy or Siem de Jong, and was played out wide, often rotating with Hatem Ben Arfa.

Despite being played out of position, Rivière managed three goals, but Pardew often preferred to start Ben Arfa ahead of him.

He is expected to start regularly for Hoffenheim, who, like Newcastle missed out on continental football last season.

We wish Emmanuel and Papiss the best of luck.

As for the exciting new arrival, expect an announcement tomorrow at 12PM BST. We'll leave you with this.

I bet the big name signing is 14 time motm Buttner
Partizan...Fiorentina...Manchester City...I wonder who ;)

Newcastle's marquee signing finally announced - no more deals

After weeks of negotiating, Newcastle United have reached an agreement with a striker who Alan Pardew thinks is their marquee signing.

And that striker is Montenegro and Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetić, 24, who had been placed on the transfer list by Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini, who reasoned, "We had a good season, but we weren't the champions. It's time for some new blood so that we can take the extra step, and that's why Stevan will be leaving the club this summer."

Pardew and City have been negotiating for weeks behind the scenes, while Pardew kept details of the transfer under wraps until today's announcement.

It was announced weeks ago that a big signing would be arriving at St James' Park this summer, but Jovetić's name was not mentioned, with Pardew wanting to keep fans guessing.

The Montenegrin striker, who is known to be injury prone, played 14 games for Pellegrini's side last season as they finished second, but only managed to score one goal, although he was often deployed on the wing. Jovetić picked up five different injuries last season, seeing him out of action for a total of 81 days.

But Pardew is confident that injury won't be too much of a problem this year for his new signing, who he paid a fee of £9 million for.

"Obviously he has picked up a few knocks in the past, and that's something we're going to have to keep an eye on. But I'm confident we can handle it. We've got a fantastic medical team here, and the risk of injury was far outweighed by Stevan's playing ability and the excitement that I feel to be able to bring him here."
Brilliant signing if you can keep him fit!! :D
Good preseason for Ben Arfa. Must've been crazy in the Schalke game when two players scored in the same minute!

Premier League vs League One in this game, but Pardew set out a strong side - is he looking for his team to go all the way this year?

Craig Pawson blew his whistle to start the game, with a 13,000 crowd watching on. It was Newcastle who kicked off calmly, but in the opening twenty minutes, there were no clear chances. That changed soon afterwards when a Newcastle attack ended up in a goal.

A short pass from French fullback Massadio Haïdara put new signing Stevan Jovetić, who was playing in just his second Newcastle match, into the area, and the Montenegrin striker played a lofted ball across the face of goal to allow Loïc Rémy an easy headed goal. Very promising from the 24-year-old, who was playing on the wing in this match.

The Rams had a chance to equalize just minutes later when highly rated England youngsters Will Hughes and Mason Bennett linked up, but a good stop from Tim Krul thwarted Bennett.

Just over the half hour mark, and Hatem Ben Arfa spotted goalkeeper Deeney out of his area following a misplaced goal kick. The Frenchman controlled perfectly as Remy won the ball back, but as the Irish keeper was running back, the Newcastle winger skewed his shot badly, and it went wide of the goal.

Jovetic should have had a goal for himself before half time, following an impressive passing move from Newcastle. Several passes after Mohamed El Neny's short punt to Sissoko, and Remy found Jovetic in space in the box, and squared it to him, but this time, Deeney produced a fantastic save to turn the ball around the post.

Ben Arfa and Newcastle would not be punished for his earlier miss, however, as the Frenchman stepped up to take a 25 yard free-kick, and dispatched it into the top corner.

The half time whistle blew, with Newcastle much the better side, and leading comfortably heading into the second period.

Each side made a change at half time, Alan Pardew deciding to give new goalkeeper Benoît Costil his first minutes in a Newcastle shirt, while George Thorne was replaced by Craig Forsyth.

Minutes after the second half began, Newcastle were further ahead, with Ben Arfa scoring his second goal of the game, in what was a very impressive performance for the winger, who attracted interest from Juventus during the pre-season.

Remy was set clear by Siem de Jong and had the chance to run at goal, but spotted the run of his fellow countryman Ben Arfa, and hit the ball ahead of him. Ben Arfa ran onto the through ball, and coolly finished past Deeney to make it 0-3 to the better side.

Disappointed... but not as much as in this photo. Derby County have suffered a lot of heartbreak in the past two seasons - first of all missing out on promotion to the Barclays Premier League, and last season getting relegated to the Sky Bet League One.

Straight from the kick off, Bennett was agonizingly close to equalizing after Ward crossed the ball into him, but the Englishman's header struck Costil's bar, and it remained 0-3. It bounced off of the woodwork and back into play, but young English fullback Calum Chambers headed behind to ensure that Newcastle's clean sheet remained in tact.

Ben Arfa provided the final goal of the game following a beautiful backheel cross from Remy which found his team-mate perfectly. From a tight angle, Ben Arfa had no chance of sealing his hat-trick, so instead used his vision to spot the run of Jovetic, who only had to tap the ball into the net to make it 0-4.

Ward came very close to pulling a goal back for Derby County, but for the save of the match from Costil, who tipped the ball around the post from close range.

That was to be Derby's last chance of the game, and Newcastle progress to the third round with ease. They'll face Hull City at the KC Stadium next month.

Hatem Ben Arfa was chosen as Man of the Match, with a match rating of 9.5.

Goalscorers: Loïc Rémy, Hatem Ben Arfa (x2), Stevan Jovetić
