Hard luck with that final, looks like it was pretty even contest to be fair. Peterboro scoring late would not of helped, as not much time to respond. Good story! Keep it up!

Bittersweet

A pretty flawless month right until the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. As the manager previously alluded to scoring goals is fine but the consistency level at keeping up with a tight backline to get the victories is needed. It’s happening and everyone is satisfied. The team took 18/18 points in the league this month so that’s great. Promotion looks very likely, the aim is to win the division. There is a positive atmosphere on the whole on match days. The team have entered their element. Manager Stan Cullis gave his review below.

Stan Cullis:
I can’t help but look back at this result with disgust. We were by far the better teams. Played good football, we were penetrating down the wings but couldn’t find a finishing touch. I have to take a share of blame. I was complacent with my changes. At 0-0 I was confident if anyone was going to get a winner it was me. I was saving my subs for later. They got round the back in quick succession late and stole the game. A trophy, no matter how insignificant is good.

On the other hand we took the full quota of points available to us this month in the league. Can't moan at that.

Your Manager,
Stan Cullis
Much better in the league, starting to show the dominant form that you need. If I has to bet, I think you are going up. Next season will be a test though, I think you will need to refresh the squad a bit. Good story keep it up!

Wolves confirm play off spot

Wolves are one game away from promotion to the Sky Bet Championship at the first time of asking. For much of the early parts of the season the side hovered in and around the Play off positions but from February onwards a strong run of form, involving several victories, some against promotion rivals has seen the club climb up to the automatic positions.

Having started off the month with defeat against MK Dons, the side bounced back with a win against Peterborough. While this was a case of jubilation over the result, there was a great sense of irony and frustration that only the week before Posh beat the club in the JSP Trophy Final at Wembley.

The side followed this up with a late win against Crewe. Liam McAlinden and David Davis got the goals to put the side closer to promotion. While this was not a performance to write home about, with the home side having the bulk of posession and having hit the woodwork twice, at this stage of the season resilience separates the pretenders to the real thing.

Rotherham was a very irritating opponent. Not performing to expectations in the division, to draw a rare blank at home against this opposition stifled the promotion charge. This was later extended with a 1-2 defeat against Leyton Orient.

However a victory against Coventry and slip ups else where ensured that the club confirmed play offs with one game to go. They now look to achieve the automatic spots, preferably the title. The club are currently in 2nd position on 84 points, joint with Sheffield United who have a better goal difference. Bristol City are the only team who can catch them on the last day going in with 82 points. Manager Stan Cullis gave his review below.

Stan Cullis:
The message is clear. We want automatics. We do our job and we're fine. In respect to the Championship, what happens happens.

Your Manager,
Stan Cullis

Wolves win Sky Bet League 1

Wolves secured the Sky Bet League 1 title after beating Carlisle 1-0 at Molineux thanks to a goal from defender Danny Batth.

Having started the day on 84 points, joint with Sheffield United but in 2nd on Goal Difference the main goal was just to get the win to avoid Bristol City overtaking them and forcing Wolves to enter the Play Offs.
City drew 2-2 with Crawley, and the two will contend in the Play Offs along with Preston and Notts County. United lost 4-2 against Stevenage allowing Stan Cullis's men to overtake them and take home the title.

Many said that they had lost too many games to seize the title but a strong run of wins in the tail end of the season has pushed them up. United themselves will look back on their 15 draws, but nonetheless will be delighted to be promoted too.

Manager Stan Cullis had this to say.

Stan Cullis:
Consistency is the key to winning Championships. You have to assert yourself amongst others. Make your mark quickly and accelerate away. It will take a serious challenge to pull you back. Unfortunately our campaign started off slowly but we have pulled it back with a serious challenge. We’ve gone through the motions and seized the motion. League 1 is ours

That’s not something this club should celebrate. Mismanagement has directed this club into this shambolic position. My job is to get them back up. The first stage is done.

Wolves Seasonal Review: 2013-2014

Home Record

Molineux was not quite a fortress given we drew seven league games. However only two defeats was vital in ensuring that we remained competitive. You can put those draws largely due to our own backs, particularly at the start of the season. The team were adjusting to a new system under my regime and as the season went on our results improved.

Away Record

This explains why the race for promotion was so tight. Despite us losing 9 away league games, and winning only 12, our competitors themselves did not have a polished record on the road to take advantage against us. I know we have to turn those defeats into added points next season. I'm working on it.

End of Season Board Meeting

Stand Out Players

Richard Stearman

Our captain Richard Stearman led by example. Having put in a transfer request at the start of the season, he turned my opinion of him around. Not the most athletic however what he has is tremendous presence which transfers to those around him.

Bakary Sako

Sako has good attributes for a wide man. His physical attributes allow him to get up and down the line, and he has good delivery. 18 assists isn’t to be messed about

Zeli Ismail

Zeli Ismail is a talent definitely. I have my problems with getting him the right development in terms of playing time. His decision making isn’t up to scratch as expected at his age but he has the time and core attributes to be a very good attacking player. I will work with on his physical attributes so he can be a regular threat up and down. He’s a work in progress.

George Elokobi

Elokobi surprised me. At the start of the campaign he wasn’t in my plans. He was a big, overweight lump. He didn’t have the football brain to understand what to do with the ball. But as the season went on he became a vital part at left back and center back. His contract is up for renewal so I’ll wait to see what happens with him.

David Edwards

David Edwards is my best "thinking" midfielder at the moment. He is the most developed and has good tenacity and an engine on him. He needs to score more goals as midfield goals are imperative to higher level success. A consistent performer.

Danny Batth

Danny Batth is an exciting young talent. At his age he is already a domineering defender with his physique and he can only get better. He scores goals which is a bonus, and thrives on tough challenges. Future captain.

Leon Clarke

Leon Clarke came into his own in the second half of the season. He’s a powerful striker and my go-to man. He’s not quick but can hold the ball up and shoot with great power and accuracy.

Draper joins Wolves

Free agent Ross Draper has been snapped up by newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers. He becomes the first piece of business the club has produced in the transfer market and has been handed the number 13 shirt.

The midfielder most recently had a spell in Scotland with Inverness CT but due to internal matters chose to part company with the club. Prior to that he was with Macclesfield having risen from the depths of non league but in his last season the club was relegated out of the Football League.

Draper has welcomed this new chapter in his career and at his unveiling he had this to say.

Ross Draper:
I am delighted to have joined this club. There is positive atmosphere amongst the lads which I could sense during my first training session. Meeting the manager convinced me that this was the right club. He told me his vison for the club, the platform they are building behind the scenes. I feel I am joining a progressing club. He told me my role as a player. As an experienced player I have a lot to offer on the pitch. But I've been trusted with the responsibility to help the youngsters develop too. There were offers from other teams. I was flattered by the interest and from just my own perspective I could have received more lucrative treatment elsewhere. However I am a part of a process here and I can't wait to get started.

Manager Stan Cullis praised the midfielder's driven attitude, his leadership and balanced game claiming that he is "here to play a number of roles".

Striker Marquis snapped up by Wolves

John Marquis becomes Wolves's second signing of the summer. Like Ross Draper he was signed up as a free agent having been released by Milwall. The young striker has had several loan moves but impressed on trial during the club's pre-season.

Two full backs let go by Cullis

Youth players released

The following list of youth players have been released by the club. The club wish them well in their future endeavors.

Wolves exodus continues as another four depart

Jamie O'Hara, Carl Ikeme, George Elokobi and Bakary Sako have left Wolves on free transfers. O'Hara and Ikeme were informed they would be let go in the summer following a fall out with the management. O'Hara's wages, allegedly on a 44k a week deal he signed when the club were in the Premier League are believed to have cost the club a transfer fee so termination of the contract had to be taken.

Ikeme joins newly promoted Leicester along with Elokobi who surprisingly was not offered a new deal despite a string of good performances last season.

Sako's departure comes of a shock, particularly due to no transfer fee. Stan Cullis has stated he will comment when the window closes.

Great first season, and you got a Marquis signing in too! :P

Haha thanks!

He's more of a punt signing if I'm honest. Develop him as much as I can. If he does a job for us all good. If not no real problem.

Needed more numbers up front
Shame to see Sako go, Wolves legend!!!! Great signings though. I was pleased to see Jamie O Hara go!!!
