Season Seven: January
FA Cup Match vs West Ham (H) 02/01/2021:
We had gone five games without a win previous to this fixture and we were lacking on confidence. Having lost last month to West Ham courtesy of a brace from Marco Antonio Bueno in the final ten minutes of the game, we knew we'd have it tough and we did. Marnick Vermijl picked up a red card for us just after half-time, leaving us in a position where we attempted to hold out for a replay. Unfortunately, as was the norm at this time, we conceded a late goal as Diego Rolan send West Ham through with three minutes remaining.
Man Of The Match: Elliot Parish (Whitehawk)
League Match vs Chelsea (A) 09/01/2021:
This was by far the most exciting game I have ever witnessed on FM, despite us losing. We saw the best attacking football from both sides in this game and the score was 3-3 at half-time. I had told my team to forget about their current form and to go out and prove why they deserve to be in the Premier League. Normally scoring four goals at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea would be an extraordinary accomplishment, but we were out-scored as Chelsea won with an incredible 6-4 scoreline. Kevin Griffiths had his best ever game for us, scoring one and assisting the other three. What a game, and what a competition!
Man Of The Match: Youri Tielemans (Chelsea)
League Match vs Tottenham (A) 13/01/2021:
We faced a midweek trip to New White Hart Lane, which is never easy. This was proven as Tottenham opened the scoring just 47 seconds in to the game. Zach Clough, buoyed by his goal at Chelsea, scored a brilliant equaliser for us as he powered home a cracking finish from the edge of the box. However, late goals came back to haunt us as Havard Nielsen snatched all three points for Tottenham with a powerful headed finish with just five minutes remaining on the clock. Probably a deserved victory for Tottenham, but we had improved dramatically on previous performances.
Man Of The Match: Joao Mario (Tottenham)
League Match vs Liverpool (H) 16/01/2021:
Next, Liverpool came knocking. We decided to take the game to them and they did the same to us. It was a brilliant free-flowing attacking game and Rafinha opened the scoring for Liverpool with just 15 minutes on the clock. However, Zach Clough had rekindled his goalscoring touch to score his third in as many games just moments after Liverpool opened the scoring. The remainder of the game brought great attacking football from both sides, as we matched every move Liverpool threw at us. A well-deserved point for us and a huge confidence boost heading out of the winter period.
Man Of The Match: Scott Tanser (Whitehawk)
League Match vs Hull (H) 26/01/2021:
Next we welcomed Hull and we finally got our first win in ten games as we battled right to the end for all three points. Junior Stanislas was the star of the show as he scored and then crossed for Tommie Hoban's goal. We continued to attack and came close a few times. Robert Snodgrass scored a stunning free-kick with 15 minutes to go but it was no more than consolation as we took all three points quite deservedly.
Man Of The Match: Junior Stanislas (Whitehawk)
League Match vs Newcastle (A) 30/01/2021:
Newcastle were sitting pretty in third place when we travelled to St. James' Park but we took the game to them, buoyed by our recent results. It was another sensational Premier League classic as the score finished 4-4 on the night. Newcastle thought they had the game won when Louis Kay bagged a brace. However, Zach Clough had another idea as he potted home two to level the score with 25 minutes remaining. It was end-to-end stuff as Harry Chapman gave Newcastle the lead once more but a goal from Kevin Griffiths tied the game with five minutes remaining before Zach Clough completed his hat-trick just minutes later to make it 4-3 to us. Unfortunately, we couldn't hold on to this slender lead as Louis Kay also completed his hat-trick with just a minute left on the clock. What a game!
Man Of The Match: Zach Clough (Whitehawk)
I am delighted with this month. Despite being knocked out of the FA Cup by West Ham, we showed great character to go to Stamford Bridge and score four, before almost snatching a point at Tottenham. We stunned Liverpool at home and then finally got our much-deserved win against Hull. We continued our great scoring form at St. James' Park too! We have improved a lot and proven that even if our opponents play well, we can still score goals.
Player Of The Month
Stanislas was fantastic once again this month but the award has to go to Zach Clough
. The English striker had been struggling earlier on in the season but he really picked himself up this month and scored an incredible six goals! Hopefully he can continue this form and hit newer heights.

Our end-of-the-month flurry of goals wasn't enough to see us get out of the relegation zone but we are still in with a good chance of survival. We remain in the hunt for safety and anything is possible still.
A tough trip to St. Mary's to play Southampton is followed by home games against Norwich and Swansea. After that, we travel to Manchester City. It will be a tough month but with some luck, we can gather enough points to climb a place or two.
