Imtech Arena, the destination for the Europa League Final
So, lets set the scene of this match in Germany. The Imtech Arena, formerly The Volksparkstadion is located in Bahrenfeld, Hamburg and was
one of
twelve stadia used for the
2006 Football World Cup. It was built between
1951-1953 and was then rebuilt in
1998 in preparation for Hamburg to move into the stadium in
2000. It is also the home of
Hamburg Sea Devils, the NFL European side.
The Stadium was hosting the Europa Cup Final for the second time this year after hosting it back in 2010 when Spanish side
Atletico Madrid defeated shock English finalists
Fulham by
two goals to one.

Cleverley has been recalled after injury
Aston Villa have recalled Tom Cleverley back to the starting line up to play alongside Delph, with Rotariu getting the nod to play on the left wing with Sterling moving into the shadow striker role to play behind Villa superstar Salomon Rondon.
Match Report
On a breezy evening at the Imtech Arena, Tottenham goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris lived the dream of many supporters as he lifted the Europa League Trophy following a very tense 1-1 draw after 120 minutes and a 4-2 penalty victory for Spurs.
Things started so well for Aston Villa, who dominated the first half and it was rewarded in the 39th minute when Rondon ran onto a through ball by Kevin Volland, he rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 and Villa leading at half time.

Icardi scoring the equaliser in the final
The second half was a complete turnaround as Guardiola must have read them the riot act and in the 62nd minute Mouro Icardi, on fire in the competition for Spurs this season rifled home a Paulinho cross to equalise. It was end to end for the rest of the 90 minutes but Villa had the best chance to seal it in the 119th minute when substitute Daniel Sturridge ended up one on one with Llloris and he unleashed a stunning shot that smashed the bar as the full time whistle went. The bar was still shaking as the keepers made there way down to the goal for the penalty shootout.
Aston Villa had already won two out of two penalty shootouts in the last 3 months so they would have felt confident but this time it was not going to be there day as Lloris made two absolute stunning saves from Stones and from Sturridge which left Lewis Holtby to score the winning penalty and give Spurs a priceless victory. John Stones and Daniel Sturridge were the unlucky players to miss there penalties and it meant that Tottenham Hotspur won the Europa League for the first time in 32 years and it is likely that Tottenham fans will celebrate for a long, long time to come as the best team won on the day. It also meant that Tottenham get a automatic place in the Champions League for the 2018/2019 season but all was not lost for Villa.

Chelsea retained the Premier League title, easily in the end with Man Utd in second place and Everton finishing in third to get back to the Champions League but amazingly Arsenal, who finished forth failed the Financial Fair Play and have sensationally been told they can not have a licence to play in Europe next season.
It is understood that they recorded massive losses and that meant that they were not allowed to participate in the Champions League, there Chairman Chips Keswick issued this apology,
I would like to apoligise to all fans at Arsenal that we will miss out on Europe next season and we will look to improve the way we used to look after our finances aswell as improving the squad for next season.
This means that Aston Villa
will now take Arsenal's place in the Champions League. It is a lucky development for Villa, who did not perform to what was expected of them this season but they will now hopefully take this and build on it. It is rumoured that manager Paul McGrath will be selling several players and with left back Alex Sandro already confirmed to sign in the Summer, Villa are about to unveil
three more signings in the coming days.
Tottenham are going to be the fifth club in the Champions League from England after winning the Europa League this season. They put the disappointment of finishing
seventh behind them and will look for some World Class players to be signed by high profile manager Josep Guardiola.
Man City, Southampton and Newcastle all make Europe but Man City will not be happy finishing in
sixth place this season but we expect Southampton and Newcastle to be thrilled with European football next season.
The race to stay up was won by Crystal Palace and Stoke as Leicester, Reading and West Brom all bit the dust this season.
Aston Villa Awards
There just one awards this season and a top three for each plus the top five shirt sellers too.
Player Of The Season
1st. Salomon Rondon

Salomon (Rondon) was unbelievable this season and deserved to win the player of the year. He scored 39 goals in all competitions this season and was easily the player of the year for The Villans this season.
In second place was mr. reliable for Villa, Tom Cleverley. Cleverley always does a great job for his side, which is more of a holding midfield role under Paul McGrath and he is getting himself ready for an england call soon we are sure.
John Stones gets third and what a defender he is. He will become a legend for the club.
