7 Points and Cup Progression In February

Serie A
Inter suffered a shock defeat at the beginning of February to mid table side Cagliari. The home side couldn't cope with the blistering pace of opposition forward, Victor Ibarbo, and on 48 minutes the striker got his reward with a cool finish to put his side one up. Out of form striker Pablo Osvaldo had the chance to even the score with 7 minutes remaining from the penalty spot, but his shot was hit wide, with Ronaldo looking on in frustration. Andrea Cossu punished Inter after 93 minutes as the home side overloaded their attack to push for an equaliser. The result finished 2-0 to Cagliari, and has left Inter once again outside the top 3.

The travelling Inter fans saw a vast improvement from the shocking display at the Giuseppe Meazza last weekend. An early own goal by Chievo's Per Egil Flo gave Inter an early lead is the match. It only took 14 minutes for Mauro Icardi to add a second for his team, after lobbing the keeper from the edge of the box, and a 22nd minute penalty from the striker gave him a second and Inter a 3-0 lead early on. The first half rout was complete on 41 minutes when Dutchman Memphis Depay cut inside a curled a wonderful shot into the top corner. Flo's misery continued on 83 minutes as the Chievo player was sent off, they did manage a small consolation on 86 mins through Sergio Pellissier - but the 4-1 win will be enough to please the Nerazzurri as their push for the top 3 continues.

Internazionale took another 3 points at home on the third Serie A match day of the month, with a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Genoa. The goals came from Mauro Icardi (31) and defender Andrea Ranocchia (43) to ensure all the points would stay with Ronalo's men. The final game of the month saw Inter take on Lazio away, the hard fought game ended as a stalemate with both sides creating enough chances to win the game. A late red card for Gino Peruzzi tainted what was otherwise a professional defensive display from the visitors. The 0-0 scoreline has meant Inter have finished the month in 3rd, closing the gap on 2nd place Roma to 2 points, and 5 behind top of the table Juventus.

Coppa Italia (1/4 Final)
This closely contested cup match was made easier for home side Inter after Jasmin Kurtic was sent off for a terrible challenge on Chilean Gary Medel on the edge of the box after 50 minutes. Inter took advantage of the extra man, and on 63 minutes it was (of course) Mauro Icardi that opened Inter's account for the night. It took 3 more minutes for the side to double their lead as Frenchman, Yann M'Vila, tapped one home from 3 yards out. The 2-0 win means Inter face Napoli in the semi-finals, with AC Milan or A.S. Roma awaiting the winner in the final.

Europa League, 1st Knockout Round
Inter fans saw their team play out a fantastic night in Europe's second biggest tournament as they took a massive step towards the last 16. In front of a packed White Hart Lane, Fredy Guarin gave the away side the lead after 23 mins from a free kick 20 yards out. Inter's lead was doubled after 66 minutes as the inform defensive midfielder Yann M'Vila finessed his shot into the bottom corner. Andros Townsend got one back fro Spurs with 15 minutes to spare, but it's Inter who take the lead back to Italy, with a well earned 2-1 victory over a strong Spurs team.

The second leg was decided by a solo effort from new signing Richairo Zivkovic. The youngster from Holland ran from inside his own half to score a fantastic goal on 21 minutes to put his side ahead. The game ended 1-0, despite Spurs' relentless attacking towards the end. The result means Inter progress, facing more English opposition in Hull City in the next round.

Player Of The Month - Mauro Icardi
4 Wins, 2 Defeats - Mixed March

Coppa Italia (Semi Final)
March began with an emphatic victory for Internazionale over Partenopei in the first leg of the Coppa Italia. Croatian wonder-kid Mateo Kovacic scored the first goal after 18 minutes when he intercepted a poorly timed pass and smashed one home from inside the box. However, Napoli can blame their lack of discipline as the main reason for their cup demise. Two penalties, one in each half, gave Inter a 3-0 victory over the opposition. Doria Rotariu (32) with the first, and Richairo Zivkovic (66) with the second, to put Inter firmly ahead in this tie going into the second leg in Naples.

Serie A
Ronaldo described his first league game of March as the "best moment of my managerial career, so far". The young manager saw his side beat league favourites, Juventus, 3-0 at home, in front of almost 74,000 supporters. The largest turnout this season saw a fine display from both wingers, with Adama Traore (20) scoring to give his side a first half lead. A Memphis Depay brace in the second half secured the points for the Nerazzurri, who won't be forgetting this result for a long time!

This performance couldn't be replicated the following week as Inter went to face Sassuolo. The mid table side's early goal through highly rated forward, Domenico Berardi, gave his side the lead. The second half saw Colombian defender, Eder Alvarez Balanta, see red. And the home side saw out a surprising win against an inform Inter side.

Inter's third league match of the month was an opportunity for some revenge. Employee who had defeated Inter earlier in the season fell victim to an Inter side desperate to put last weeks result behind them. And it was Romanian winger, Dorin Rotariu who scored first after 9 minutes, giving the manager something to think about ahead of future selections. Yann M'Vila, on loan from Rubin Kazan, doubled the home sides lead late on, meaning Inter are now tied on points with 2nd place A.S. Roma going into April's heavy schedule.

Europa League, 2nd Knockout Round
Inter suffered a SHOCK DEFEAT in the first leg of their knockout round fixture agains European novices, Hull City. The Tigers came to the Giuseppe Meazza underdogs, and left in their clubs folklore. Two second half goals from Nikita Jelavic ensured Hull would take a strong lead into the second leg, with two away goals. Ronaldo described the match as "the darkest day I've had at Internazionale".

Memphis Depay goals in the second leg in the 9th and 47th minute helped Inter Milan take the tie to penalties, having shown fantastic character to comeback from the first leg result. Inter's penalty takers: Mauro Icardi, Yann M'Vila, Fredy Guarin, Juan Jesus and Lucas Romero; all scored their penalties against a devastated Allan McGregor. Hull were also in fine form scoring all 4 of their first penalties, however Samir Handanovic left the field a hero after saving former England international, Tom Huddlestone's penalty. The result means Inter will now progress to the next stage, facing Dutch side Feyenoord for a place in the semi-finals.

Player Of The Month - Juan Jesus

Great Story so far! Could you post the league table so everyone could see where you and everyone else is? Keep up the work!
1
Vsablackwatch - Glad you're enjoying it! I'm a bit behind at the story writing at the moment due to work commitments. So I can't really go back and show the table, except for the end of the season. But it is definitely something I will look at including in the future! :)
Inter Reach Cup Final!

Napoli 4 Inter Milan 3
Suso 31
Rotariu 34
Balanta 90+2
Man Of The Match - Suso.

Internazionale manager Ronaldo has secured a place for his side in the Coppa Italia final after narrowly losing the second leg to Napoli. Nerazzurri went into the second leg with a 3-0 lead and were expecting Napoli to overload their attack from the start. Napoli's attack minded tactic payed off with an early strike from Belgian winger Dries Mertens. However, this attacking mentality left Napoli vulnerable at the back, and this was exploited by Inter after 31 minutes when Spanish loanee Suso scored his first goal for the club. Three minutes later Romanian winger Dorin Rotariu scored a fantastic strike to end any hope of a Napoli comeback. The second half saw an improvement for the home side scoring three more goals through Henrique (60), Gonzalo Higuain (75) and Jose Callejon (90+1). Yet it was Inter that rounded off the goal frenzy after 92 minutes, when Eder Alvarez Balanta made it 4-3, meaning Inter will face A.S. Roma in the cup final in June.

http://s4.firstpost.in/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/ronaldo-brazil_reuters.jpg

In his post match interview Ronaldo said "today is for the fans, these last few years we have been in decline, today is the first step in our journey to ultimate glory", when prompted about the upcoming final, Ronaldo was quick to deflect interest in talking more about the cup as he said, "we must now concentrate on Serie A, finishing in the top three is the main goal this season, the cups [Europa League and Coppa Italia] are secondary objectives to that. We must be in the Champions League next season. That is where Nerazzurri belong".
Inter Form Continues Through April

Serie A
Mauro Icardi's 15th league goal of the season was enough to secure 3 hard earned points against a defensively strong Atalanta side to continue Inter's deadly form into April. And the Italians showed no signs of taking their eye of the ball with another impressive display away to Palermo. Goals from Dutchman Memphis Depay and Brazilian full back Dodo, where enough to win the game. Palermo's Andrea Belotti did even the score for a short while after 47 minutes, but the game ended 2-1 to the Nerazzurri, moving the side into 2nd place.

Inter's third league match of the month came at home against Verona. The opposition stunned the home crowd with an early lead through experienced Argentine legend, Javier Saviola. However, their excitement of getting a huge scalp was short lived when Gary Medel drove one home from 20 yards out to even the scoreline at half time. It took a last gasp effort from Dorin Rotariu after 92 minutes to give Inter an important victory over their tenacious opposition.

With the games stacking up and players fitness taking a beating, it wasn't surprising to see Inter eventually slip up. This came away to Sampdoria, who hold one of the best home records in Serie A this season. Former Lazio and Fiorentina full back Lorenzo De Silvestri scored the only goal of the game, it looked like Mauro Icardi was going to be the hero late on, but his shot came off the post to deny his side any share of the spoils. Inter remain in 2nd at the end of a busy month with 6 games remaining.

Europa League, 1/4 Finals
Inter had one step in the semi final after a narrow victory at home to Dutch side Feyenoord. Three-time winners Inter took the lead through Memphis Depay after 18 minutes when he scored from a free kick. It only took two-time winners Feyenoord 3 minutes to equalise, as Elvis Manu exploited some poor defending to get his team that important away goal. Mauro Icardi's 27th minute strike was enough to give Inter the lead going into the second leg, but the away goal would be on the mind of the Italians as they jet off to Rotterdam next week. Full time 2-1 Inter.

The second leg wasn't the tight affair it was built up to be. Within 24 minutes two Inter away goals had ended Feyenoord's dream of reaching the last four. Lucas Romero's 15th minute penalty gave the side a strong hold in the game from the start. But it was Matteo Darmian's unlikely strike that ended the Dutch dream. A second half header from former Aston Villa midfielder Karim El Ahmadi gave his side a consolation but at the full time whistle it was the Italians celebrating progression to the semi-finals, where German side Wolfsburg awaited. There players were ecstatic at full time with Inter's Juan Jesus embracing his fellow countryman and manager at full time. Full time 2-1 Inter, 4-2 on aggregate to the Italians. The final few games of the season were set up to offer massive rewards for Ronaldo's men with a chance to secure Champions League football and a potential cup double still on the cards.

Inter Take Massive Step To Securing Second Place

Internazionale began May with two huge victories against two of Serie A's toughest opponents, A.S. Roma and fierce rivals AC Milan.

Inter Milan 3 A.S. Roma 0
Guarin 19
Depay 21
Guarin 48
Man Of The Match - Fredy Guarin.

Inter's match was billed to be a tight affair, yet this was far from the case. Fredy Guarin gave a performance that Inter great Luis Figo would have been proud of. Two goals and an assist, helping Dutchman Memphis Depay to score from close range, made sure that there was no chance Roma were taking anything back to capital except a feeling of utter despair. Defender Yuto Nagatomo was in fine form, making it difficult for Roma to create anything of real substance. Ronaldo hailed his "heroic performance", and this will only add to the expectation among the Nerazzurri that their side should secure Champions League football again after years of going without.

AC Milan 2 Inter Milan 3
Guarin 33
Icardi 45+2
Rotariu 84
Man Of The Match - Fredy Guarin.

This next instalment of the Milan derby saw Ronaldo get his first victory over the club he once played for. A five goal thriller was played out at the San Siro, which many neutrals will call the game of the season. Fredy Guarin, who's in exquisite form, added a third goal in two games, after his 25 yard strike went into the top left corner, leaving AC Milan's Diego Lopez with no chance. The game broke out into a massive brawl after Andrea Poli made a disgusting challenge on Kevin Kampl. The Italian midfielder was sent off for his challenge on Kampl, allowing Inter fans to mock their bitter rivals who looked destined to lose. But 6 minutes after going a man down Brazilian centre back, Alex, smashed home a free kick to put his side back in the game. Moments before the half time whitle it was that man again, Mauro Icardi, who volleyed his side into a 2-1 lead. The Argentine showed how much the goal meant to him as he kissed the badge in front of the away crowd.

10-man AC refused to go down without a fight, and after 68 minutes against the run of play, a fine counter attacking move was finished off by Frenchman Jeremy Menez to make it 2-2. The game turned into a cagey affair from then on in, with both sides being restricted to long range attempts with some world class defending in play. But it was substitute Dorin Rotariu that had the last laugh, latching onto Icardi's through ball, the winger slotted one home from 10 yards out, sending his teams support into a frenzy as blue flairs lit up in the away end. The 6 points against AC and A.S. Roma meant Inter now only needed 3 points in their final four games to secure a top three spot.
Euro Dream Denied

Internazionale crashed out of the Europa League Semi-Final stage this month against an imposing Wolfsburg. The first leg was almost like a game chess, with both sides struggling to find any gaps behind the organised defences to exploit. No surprise the first leg ended 0-0 in Germany. Inter's failure to score an away goal left Ronaldo on edge about the second leg, but he was seemingly confident his side could prevail.

Unfortunately this wasn't the case. The second leg finally saw some goals with Inter taking a lead through Serbian captain Nemanja Vidic on 19 minutes. Almost 77,000 fans packed into the Giuseppe Meazza to hopefully witness the Nerazzurri qualify for another European cup final. This was not to be. Joshua Guilavogui scored after 31 minutes from a corner to give his side the away goal advantage. The second half saw a bombardment of attempts from a desperate Inter, who recorded 16 shots on target all game. But it wasn't to be. Goalkeeper Diego Benaglio is likely to be given the freedom of the city after his performance, single handily stopping Inter from reaching the final. Some consolation for Inter that they are closing in on Champions League football, and still have a domestic cup final to enjoy. But this defeat will live long in the memories of the disappointed crowd.

Mediocre May Enough To Secure Second

Inter failed to secure second at home to Torino, suffering from a European hangover, after missing out on a place in the final. Torino stunned the Nerazzurri with a 2-0 victory, former Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella gave his side the lead after 17 minutes, and the win was secured 6 minutes later with Arouna Kone (on loan from Everton) tapping one in from close range.

At the second time of trying Inter Milan secured runner up in Serie A, ensuring QUALIFICATION FOR THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE! The Nerazzurri gave a first half masterclass, scoring three goals in the first 45 minutes. Croatian Mateo Kovacic scored the opening goal from close range, and before long youngster Richairo Zivkovic had doubled his sides lead. Right on half time, Dutch defender Ron Vlaar hand-balled inside the area giving Inter the chance to go three up. Romanian Dorin Rotariu stepped up to the spot and hit it true into the bottom left corner to give his side a 3-0 lead. The second half was tainted by an early bath for [Eder Alvarez] Balanta after 49 minutes. This allowed Fiorentina to put their stamp on the game through Kenneth Zohore. The Viola could only manage one goal though, which meant Inter won 3-1 and secured Champions League football for the 2015-15 season.

Inter suffered a second league defeat in three at the hands of Parma, away from home. Parma went two up before half time. Ex-Inter winger Jonathan Biabiany scored first for his side, and Raffaele Palladino made it 2-0 after 44 minutes. Mauro Icardi did grab a second half goal from the spot, making it 17 goals in the league this season. But Crociati held on to earn a famous win against the Milan based side.

Inter rested most of their first team for the final game of Serie A, with a cup final showdown with A.S. Roma a week away. Ronaldo gave starts to goalkeeper Juan Carrizo, Gino Peruzzi, Martin Ødegaard, Suso, Pablo Dani Osvaldo and Alessandro Mattioli. Slovakian Kevin Kampl gave a good account of himself, giving the manager a selection headache ahead of the cup final. The winger scored twice in the first half, after Udinese scored in the 2nd minute. Gary Medel was sent off in the first half too to add the final day drama at the Giuseppe Meazza, and it only took Udinese a minute of second half football to bag a second goal through Guilherme. George Pușcaș - an unknown to anyone who doesn't watch Inter's under 20 side, was the match winner on the final day of the season, scoring a fantastic strike from outside the area wit 15 minutes to go, to help Inter finish the season strongly ahead of their cup final.

Manager Ronaldo summed up the season afterwards saying "we have achieved what we wanted in June and more. We have not only secured Champions League football, but have qualified for the group stages, and got to the cup final. I am proud of all my players. We have shown great character and attitude throughout the campaign. Next season we will be even stronger. But first all our thoughts turn to next weeks game with Roma for the cup!".

Final League Table - Serie A (2014/15)
Great Season mate! Hopefully you can build on your success and win some more trophies next season!
Cup Glory For Nerazzurri!

Internazionale's Ronaldo has ended his first season of management tasting glory in the Coppa Italia final. Five goals were scored in a breathtaking final that had fans constantly on the edge of their seats. It only took Inter 7 minutes to find a way through the Roma defence when top scorer Mauro Icardi extending his goal tally to an impressive 21 goals in all competitions. Inter's lead was lost after 29 minutes of play, when the impressive midfielder Kevin Strootman found a way past Inter's [Samir] Handanovic from a long range strike. However, Inter quickly restored their one goal lead 2 minutes later, with Adama Traore scoring on his first start for 3 months having recovered from a serious injury - not a bad way to reintroduce himself to the Inter supporters.

http://www.tuttolevante.it/fileadmin/archivio/tuttolevante/immagini/coppa_italia_tim.jpg

The second half maintained the same intensity and attacking flair that fans witnessed in the first half, and with 14 minutes left to play Dutch winger Memphis Depay showed once again why he has been such a sensation since joining the Italian side. A fantastic move down the left flank saw Depay cut inside before slamming a shot into the top right corner. The atmosphere was electric from then on in the Inter camp, with fans singing at the top of their voices as they eagerly awaited the full time whistle. There was some consolation for A.S. Roma late on, as Greek international Jose Holebas hit one in from close range. Soon after the full time whistle was blown and Internazionale's supporters were in full volume, celebrating a famous win, and an end to their trophyless period. Player and staff alike were invading the pitch to celebrate the moment with the Inter heroes, Ronaldo was able to give a brief word to the press during the celebrations saying; "We did it! What a performance from the lads! They deserve this, the fans deserve this. We are the champions! Today is about the cup, tomorrow we will begin our plan for next season. The project has only just began".
Vsablackwatch - Thanks for the support! Wasn't expecting to win anything first season, so the cup was a bonus. Top 3 finish is the main thing though, should be able to attract a higher class of player this summer! :)

End Of Season Awards

After a successful campaign the players came together one final time before their summer break to celebrate their success and award those who've made a notable contribution to the Nerazurri's season. Here are the list of winners:

http://www.cardandpaymentsawards.com/wp-content/themes/cardandpaymentsawards/_images/tableBooking.jpg

Top Scorer - Mauro Icardi

17 goals in Serie A, 21 in all competitions. His finishing has earned him interest from foreign clubs like Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund this season. The striker has shown versatility in his goalscoring and was a consistent threat during the season.

Goalkeeper Of The Year - Samir Handanovic

26 Clean Sheets in all competitions. Played almost every game this season, making some world class saves throughout. No surprise to see this safe pair of hands grab himself an award tonight.

Defender Of The Year - Nemanja Vidic.

The Inter captain started 28 league games, only losing twice in Serie A when he played. His leadership and influence was highly valued during a tough campaign, and he can be credited with playing a massive role in a successful season.

Midfielder Of The Year - Mateo Kovacic.

This was a tough award to give out with several potential contenders. The Croatian midfielder pipped it though having played 40 times for Inter last season, scoring 3 and assisting 14 goals. His pass completion rate was 85%, making him one of the most consistent performers for his side through the season.

Best Newcomer - Memphis Depay

The Dutch winger has made a lasting impression on the Nerazzurri supporters with 17 goals in all competitions and 10 assists. The pace winger has created an endless amount of excitement with his skilful play and deadly runs. More of the same is to be expected from this young talent who cost the club only a portion of his current market value.

Clubman Of The Year - Andrea Ranocchia

The Italian defender continued to show loyalty to his club, even if he wasn't a constant starter for his employers. He's always one of the first to get to training, and among the last to leave. His work ethic is one to be admired and Ronaldo will hope the younger players use Andrea as an inspiration on and off the pitch.

Youngster Of The Year - Adama Traore.

Not a bad break-out season for the young Spaniard. Left Barcelona for £2.5 million, scored 4 and assisted 7, making 15 appearances in an injury struck campaign. He was among the scorers in the Coppa Italia final, already cementing his place in Inter's rich history. More is sure to come from this wonder-kid!

But let's all remember - it's a team game!
Busy June Sees New Faces Join, and Several Leave

Ronaldo has strengthened his squad with no less than three new players before the beginning of pre-season.

Ins
Roberto Pereyra, an Argentine international, with several years of Serie A experience, playing for Udinese and current champions Juventus, has joined Inter on a free transfer, having failed to agree a new deal with his former employers. The versatile midfielder, who can play in the centre of midfield or out wide, gives Ronaldo more options ahead of a long season. Pereyra agreed a deal said to be worth £48,000 a week. When asked about signing the former River Plate player, Ronaldo said, "He's a welcome addition to the Inter family. Roberto is an adaptable midfielder, that gives me more options. He still has his best years ahead, and to have paid nothing for him as an absolute steal."

The second signing made by Ronaldo during the summer break was England international Raheem Sterling. The winger, who broke into the Liverpool side back in 2012 under Brendan Rodgers, could potentially become Inter's most expensive player in history, a record held for 16 years, since Christian Vieri signed from Lazio for a the world record breaking £31 million pounds. Sterling's deal sees the club initially paying his former employers £25 million for his services, with possible add one for club and international appearances, and club goals - meaning the deal could rise to £35 million in the future. The move to Italy sees Raheem get a substantial pay rise, and it's been suggested he'll earn a stunning £100,000 a week during his time at the Giuseppe Meazza. A contract that will last five years, with an option to extend the contract another year if his employers see fit. The electric winger achieved the most assists in the UEFA Champions League last season, which makes him a valuable asset ahead of their return to Europe's biggest tournament. This signing has certainly shown that Inter mean business this season, and odds have been slashed on the side challenging Juventus this season for the Serie A title.

Finally, Ronaldo secured the loan signing of Chelsea's defence minded midfielder and Nigerian international, John Obi Mikel. Mikel joins as a straight replacement for former loanee Yann M'Vila, with Inter having an option to buy for £6 million. The Nigerian has massive experience playing in the Champions League, and won the title with Chelsea back in 2012. The defensive midfielder, who joined Chelsea back in 2006, saw his game time cut dramatically last season, as Jose Mourinho entrusted Nemanja Matic as the key man to fill the hole between defence and midfield. Ronaldo has commented on the player, having said "John is an experienced midfielder. He's the perfect professional, and is hard working. It's important to have these players in a squad, they help unlock our attackers, allowing them the freedom to do what they do. And who knows, if John can impress, we could sign him permanently next summer".

Outs
Inter have allowed several players to leave the club ahead of pre-season, many of them returning from loan spells. Ronaldo had assessed all the returning players, but has decided many aren't adequate to make an impact on his evolving squad. Four players have been found new clubs on free transfers with Davide Guglielmotti moving to Pro Patria, Francesco Forte joining Pisa, Manuel Gullotta going to Brescia and Vincenzo Tommasone joining recently relegated Genoa. Luca Garritano has agreed a deal to move to Serie A side Cesena for £1.5 million having failed to impress Ronaldo, with Marco Benassi heading to Torino for £2.3 million pounds. In addition, the club have secured a £525,000 deal for second choice keeper Juan Pablo Carrizo, whose contract was due to expire in July. Although these deals haven\t given Inter much extra transfer funds they have freed up thousands of pounds off the wage bill.

Inter's pre season schedule has also been confirmed with tickets now on sale from the club shop and on the website. Inter begin their pre-season with an away day against Italian minnows Virtus Entrella on the 16th of July, before heading to Austria to face FC Red Bull Salzburg on the following Tuesday. In an attempt to expand their fanbase by tapping into the Asian market, the Nerazzurri will face Beijing away on Saturday the 25th of July. Following these three games, Inter will fly out to America for a fortnight, playing four games ahead of their Super Cup final with Juventus.
