Inter Milan began their defence of the Coppa Italia with a five goal thriller at home to lower league side Pescara. With Inter making numerous changes, and giving a first team debut to midfielder Scott Greatorex, it was the away side that took advantage. Two goals in the opening 15 minutes ensured Pescara had a strong lead in the Giuseppe Meazza. On-loan striker Tony Sanabria (from A.S. Roma), gave his side an early lead after 8 minutes, and it was Riccardo Maniero's cool finish that doubled their lead. After the second goal Inter's mentality changed, and they were playing much higher up the pitch in an attempt to claw one back. That goal came after 25 minutes, with the Ivorian forward,
Wilfried Bony, heading one in from 5 yards out. Inter's unrelenting attack looked like it was in vain, as Pescara held on to their one goal lead until the dying moments. But it was Italian
Fabio Borini, playing on the wing, who scored a late equaliser for Inter to save their blushes and take it to extra time. Ronaldo made three subs; Joh Obi Mikel came on to give a strong performance in defensive midfield, stopping Pescara from grabbing a third, and versatile midfielder Carl Lundqvist made his Inter debut. Mehdi Benati headed his side into the lead in front of the 22-thousand strong crowd. Afterwards Ronaldo praised his sides second half performance, saying
