Next season will be very exciting!

Sky Bet League 2: Player of the Year candidates

Young Callum O'Dowda played incredibly for his hometown club this season, scoring a highly impressive sixteen goals from a wide position. He finished as Oxford United's second highest goalscorer, only behind Kemar Roofe.

Tottenham Hotspur's Shaquile Coulthirst went out on loan to Southend at the start of the season, and despite being hit by several minor injuries, the striker, who has been called 'the next Michael Owen' by English media, scored 18 league goals for Phil Brown's side as they finished 3rd.

By winning the league, it is probably to be expected that more than one Oxford United player has made the shortlist. Danny Rose has been a creative force for his side and his assists helped his side to their title win. Worth mentioning that Jake Wright statistically outperformed every other player in the league but was not nominated for Player of the Year.

Finally Tranmere Rovers' Max Power is the only player on the shortlist whose club did not win promotion from League 2. His side fell short in the Playoffs but he was a constant shining star in their team over the course of the season and was unlucky not to be playing his football in a higher division next season.

All League 2 award winners will soon be announced. Who will win the most desired award?
Shaquile :O had him on my Spurs save... I hope one of your players win it though!
Lovely graphics and update! I reckon O'Dowda should win it!

Oxford duo Duberry and O'Dowda scoop awards

Oxford United duo Callum O'Dowda and Michael Duberry have picked up awards at the Sky Bet League 2 awards evening.

U's manager Duberry led his side to the division title and was named League 2 Manager of the Month on several occasions. With his team breaking the record for the highest number of points ever achieved in the league, it is perhaps no surprise that ex-Chelsea defender Duberry won the award. Leading his side to 33 victories and only losing six times, the Oxford boss is fully deserving of the award.

The Player of the Year award has gone to 20-year-old Callum O'Dowda who impressed with his performances from the left flank. The English midfielder netted 16 goals in 40 appearances for his local club and was crucial in their title winning campaign.

Fellow U's midfielder Danny Rose was also in consideration for the award, but O'Dowda's young age makes the award win all the more impressive. It is still unclear why U's captain Jake Wright, who statistically outperformed every player in the division, was omitted from the Player of the Year shortlist, but the former Bradford and Brighton defender is a brilliant professional and will celebrate O'Dowda's award win with him without a doubt.

Meanwhile six Oxford United players were named in the Sky Bet League 2 Team of the Year.

Oh'Dowdaah, well deserved award for him and his manager ;) I also see Roofiee on the team of the year up there, such a lethal player.

EXCLUSIVE: Duberry claims he rejected Rotherham in order to stay with promoted Oxford United

The manager of newly promoted Oxford United has claimed that Sky Bet Championship side Rotherham United approached him at the end of the season but he turned them down in order to stay with the club he led to the division title last season.

Michael Duberry has told journalists that he rejected the advances of The Millers, insisting that the reason behind this was his passion for the club and belief that he could take them places.

Rotherham beat the drop from England's second division last season but Steve Evans left the club to move to Middlesbrough at the end of the season. Rotherham, who were in the same division as Oxford not too long ago, held an interview with Duberry and decided that he was the man to lead them forward in the next season.

But Duberry had other plans, opting to reject the chance to manage a team in a higher division with better funding available to them in order to stay with the team with whom he finished his professional career.

Rotherham are expected to face a difficult season once again this year, with Sky Bet having predicted them to come rock bottom of the league.

"It is true that Rotherham came in and wanted me to manage them. I was honored that a club in the Championship thought I was capable of leading them, but I really do believe I can take Oxford even further. I want this team to be a long term project and I really do want to be here for as long as possible.

We're in negotiations with some great players and I really think that this season can be good for us. The fans have been excellent and they've supported the team and myself really well in my time here and I know that it will continue no matter what."
Rotherham's shite anyway :P keep climbing the ladder, one day you'll be rejecting the likes of Real Madrid & Liverpool ;)
Wow, this is really good! :D

After a shaky start, you've done amazingly with Oxford, well done on the promotion, and good luck in League One. :)
