Ouch, unlucky defeat, especially to your main rival.
unlucky to lose the FFA cup final, at least it shouldnt really affect your boards confidence,

disappointed i didnt see Craig Foster's little ball on a stick when analyzing halftime ;)
:( Losing is tough, but to the ultimate scum and public enemy number one it's even worse. Sports Interactive had something to do with this me thinks. Hopefully you'll bounce back soon.
I've always loved a story away from the major European leagues and there's nothing further away than Australia :P

Hard luck on that final loss, but don't worry about it too much, I'm certain you'll bounce back. As Walter rightly said, Sports Interactive is the Goliath in this story and you are the David. Go against them, beat the game ;)

Wow, that got a bit dramatic!
Damn that's a tough loss! Hard luck :( Good luck next time :)
Dat defeat :(
Tallery Yeah was a tough loss to take

TMO Yeah no board didn't mind

Walt SI hate has made it into the forums oh gawd ;)

Akash Thanks Akash, I love myself a little bit of Antipodean action too ;)

Melbourne City manager Harry Kewell has held a press conference following his side's 1-0 loss in the FFA Cup Final, apologising for the team's poor performance against arch rivals Melbourne Victory. The 36 year old acknowledged his players were not up for the performance.

"I think the boys were a little overwhelmed by the occasion and we didn't perform as well as we should have. We were caught out time and time again by the Victory going forward and it wasn't an exceptable performance; I would like to apologise to the fans on behalf of the club," said Kewell, speaking in front of the club's new training facilities in Melbourne. When asked what he thought let the club down, he chose not to inflict blame on any one area.

"I don't think we can pin the blame on anyone in particular, it wasn't a good game for anyone. I'd rather not dwell on who did what wrong, just that we did it wrong, and it's time to learn from it."

Kewell has earned praise from pundits for his professional manner so far this season at Melbourne City after taking over at the start of the season. The 36 year old has directed the club into a healthy position and it looks likely the club will make their first ever finals appearance. However, they weren't able to win the FFA Cup, but despite this Kewell says there is more to come.

"I think this squad has shown some great fight this season, and we're not out of anything yet. We can win the title from here, no doubt about it. Plenty of faith in the boys for a strong second half of the season."

Kewell's side will resume training today before playing the Victory again in the league on Saturday.
Real shame about the defeat, at least you can use it to spur you on for the rest of the season. It would be great especially if you could respond by beating Victory in the league and get some revenge. You can do it!
pompey I'll certainly try :)

The end of the year approaching, we had a busy month, giving us a great opportunity to move up the table. Could we capitalise? Let's see how the club did to finish off 2014.

Results

Hyundai A-League

1-1

Redmayne, Germano, Kisnorbo, Wielaert, Smith, Paartalu, Mooy, Koren, Retre, Duff, Kennedy

Retre

Paulo Retre (7.3)

We weren't able to establish any kind of hold on Brisbane on home soil, and conceded an early goal despite the run of play being more or less equal. Up-and-coming winger Paulo Retre managed to equalise with a great effort and the game peetered out into a 1-1 draw.

1-0

Redmayne, Germano, Wielaert, Chapman, Clisby, Paartalu, Murdocca, Brown, Dugandzic, Garuccio, Hoffman

Hoffman

Jonatan Germano (7.9)

I heavily rotated the team ahead of the FFA Cup Final, giving players such as Jack Clisby and Massimo Murdocca a game, and the team played marvelously defensively to hold on for 72 minutes, reaping the rewards when Jason Hoffman scored a cool and calculated header to down the Wanderers 1-0.

None

Aaron Mooy (7.3)

We weren't able to get revenge on the Victory after our FFA Cup Final loss, going down 1-0 once again. Yet again Andrew Redmayne saved a penalty, but his teammates let him down going forward as we lose once more to our rivals who are fast becoming our bogey team.

1-0

Redmayne, Germano, Kisnorbo, Chapman, Garuccio, Paartalu, Mooy, Koren, Retre, Duff, Hoffman

Hoffman

Jason Hoffman (8.3)

We bounced back from a disappointing week against the Glory courtesy of a stunning Jason Hoffman long shot in the 66th minute. The striker/attacking midfielder/right back, never renowned for his technical ability, scored a brilliant goal from the edge of the box to secure the 3 points and a good turnaround on our march to the finals.

Retre
Paartalu
Williams

Damien Duff (8.5)

We finished off the year in style with a cracking 4-2 win over the Jets, scoring twice early to all but seal the win. Erik Paartalu comfortably scored a penalty just after HT, and although the Jets hit back twice in the second half to make it 3-2, we had the class to end the game when sub David Williams scored in the 84th minute. Splendid way to end 2014.

A highly positive month from a league perspective means we rise into a comfortable 3rd, a game below 2nd and a game above 4th. Brilliant position to finish the year in in my opinion, and that top spot is certainly within our reach.

Player Of The Month

Jason Hoffman

I couldn't really find any standouts this month so my POTM goes to the warhorse Jason Hoffman. Versatile, not overly skilled, but sure as hell determined, Hoffman is my go-to fill the gap guy, playing at right back in the FFA Cup Final and towards the end of the month replacing the injured Josh Kennedy as striker. He scored 2 great goals and set up a couple more and is exceeding expectations so far this season.

Manager's Thoughts

First off I'll address the obvious negative, the FFA Cup Final. Bad performance, and then to go and lose again was disappointg. Apart from those 2 matches, we were quite good however. I was impressed with the performances of some of the squad players, such as Retre, Hoffman and Williams, and when your average players are playing well, it reflects well on the rest of the team. 2015 should be a great year for the club, and I'm hoping we can start it with a bang!
Nice month aside from the derby against the scum. Just turn some of those stalemates into victories and you're all set.
Nice month, unlucky with Victory. Good luck.
Damn, Victory are annoying buggers. Aside from those matches, a fairly good month with a brilliant win against Newcastle Jets! Just shows, they're nothing without Heskey... ;)
Walter If only haha

Macdab Thanks mate

Pompey Any team without Heskey is worse. Liverpool made the 2001 League Cup Final with Heskey, I didn't see them make it in 2015 without him ;)
