shylax I personally love one club players, growing up in Australia where one club players in the local code is quite common. Football doesn't seem to have enough of them

August 2014

West Ham got their season underway in August, playing 3 Premier League games as well as their first Capital One Cup match. After some solid acquisitions over the summer, they will have hoped for some strong results in the early stages of the season.

Results

Barclays Premier League
EVERTON 2-2
Adrian, Lowton, Tomkins (McShane), Kouyate (Collins), Cresswell, Noble, Song, Lletget, Ibe (Valencia), Downing, Sakho
Diafra Sakho (x2)
Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

West Ham started their campaign at Goodison Park, facing a strong Everton line up including Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku. It was Diafra Sakho, however, who got the Hammers off to a great start in the 11th minute. This is nullified by a 24th minute Lukaku goal, and then bested by another goal from the Belgian just after half time. However, Sakho had the last laugh with a 64th minute equaliser to end the game at 2-2. The bad news, however, is that Sakho picked up a injury following the match and will miss several weeks of action.

Barclays Premier League
NEWCASTLE 1-0
Adrian, Lowton (O'Brien), Tomkins, Kouyate, Garbutt (Cresswell), Noble, Song, Lletget, Ibe, Downing (Lee), Valencia
Jordon Ibe
Jordon Ibe (West Ham)

The Boleyn Ground saw it's first action of 2014/15 with West Ham hosting Newcastle in what promised to be a match between two evenly matched sides. Neither team could break the deadlock for most of the match but West Ham's breakthrough eventually came through their two loanees, with a Garbutt cross finding Jordon Ibe at the back post in the 65th minute in what proved to be the decisive goal.

Capital One Cup
SWINDON 0-2
Jaaskelainen, O'Brien (Tomkins), Collins, Henry, Garbutt, Kouyate (Noble), Song, Lletget, Borg (Valencia), Downing, Lee
None
John Swift (Swindon)

West Ham would travelled to The County Ground expecting a comfortable win but were shocked by an explosive Swindon outfit which stunned the Hammers into submission with 2 early goals. Leading by two goals at the 15 minute mark, the performances of youngsters Doneil Henry, Oscar Borg and Elliott Lee did not help the overall poor display from West Ham as they are knocked out of the League Cup at the first hurdle.

Barclays Premier League
ARSENAL 0-2
Adrian, Lowton, McShane, Tomkins, Cresswell, Kouyate (Lletget), Song, Noble, Ibe, Downing (Garbutt), Valencia (Cole)
None
Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

Arsenal were the club's first real test of the season and they suffered a predictable 2-0 loss at the hands of a spectacular Alexis Sanchez, who scored the first goal with an impressive free kick in the 24th minute. To that stage, West Ham looked to have the upper hand but the Gunners ended the match with a second goal in front of their home crowd by Olivier Giroud.

After a fighting draw, a plucky win and a predictable loss, West Ham sit in 11th place on the EPL table with their counter attacking style doing well so far. With so many matches to play, we'll have to wait and see where the Hammers end up.

Player Of The Month

Stewart Downing

The ex-Liverpool man has made a good start to life in London with 4 consistent performances on that left wing, picking up 2 assists and working well with young Jordon Ibe who is of course from Downing's old club. He's another player with a lot to prove at West Ham and has done well so far at his new club.

Injury Update

Diafra Sakho strained his back in training on the 19th of August and is expected to be out for a further 8 days to 2 weeks.
Morgan Amalfitano fractured his back in training on the 6th of August and is expected to be out for a further 2 to 4 weeks.
Stewart Downing suffered a sports hernia in training on the 2nd of September and is expected to be out for a further 5 weeks.
Andy Carroll tore ankle ligaments on the 8th of July and is expected to be out for a further 8 weeks to 2 months.
Decent start to the league, but that defeat to Swindon must've been hard to take!
With the fixture list, it seems you've done a decent job in your first month.
Zed & Pauks Thanks fellas, the Swindon game was the only lowlight for me

Allardyce Apologises For Swindon Absence

Sam Allardyce's much publicised absence from his side's Capital One Cup loss has been attributed to the team's early dismissal from the cup, and the man himself has held a small press conference, apologising for his blunder.

"I am sorry for not being there at the game, and I am prepared to take partial responsibility for the loss. However, it was still a bad performance from the players, regardless of the manager."

West Ham assistant manager Neil McDonald was on the touchline for the loss to Swindon, whilst Allardyce was no where to be seen. It is thought he may have been at the Arsenal vs Walsall game instead, scouting his next opposition. When asked if it was true, and why he would personally miss a game to scout, Allardyce was tight lipped.

"I'm not prepared to reveal any confidential information to the press at this time."

West Ham's early departure from the League Cup will come as a disappointment to their fans, with their club considered one of the 'smokeys' for the competition, which is held by Manchester City. West Ham's new hope will now look for a better performance in the more prestigious FA Cup, and have some cup form this season.
Ha, it looks like you have Garbutt, too! Hopefully he does as well for you as he did for me in my Leicester story. The manager not being there does tend to have a big impact on performance, and btw, what is a "smokey"?
shylax A smokey is kind of the Aussie expression for 'dark horse', just a team with the potential to upset

A lengthy international break broke up September, meaning just 3 games were played over the month. However, they were certainly important fixtures for West Ham as they were all winnable games, facing Swansea, Leicester and Stoke.

Results

Barclays Premier League
SWANSEA 2-0
Adrian, Lowton, Collins, Tomkins, Cresswell, Noble (Kouyate), Song, Nolan (Poyet), Ibe, Jarvis (Garbutt), Valencia
Enner Valencia, Jordon Ibe
Enner Valencia (West Ham)

After almost 3 weeks on the sidelines, the Hammers return in front of their home crowd against Swansea and put in a great display after a lacklustre first half. Enner Valencia played a crucial part, scoring once and assisting once, whilst Jordon Ibe got onto the scoresheet once more. Both Valencia and Ibe have rivals coming back from injury and their performances will go a long way to securing first team spots over Sakho and Amalfitano respectively.

Barclays Premier League
LEICESTER 0-1
Adrian, Lowton, McShane, Tomkins, Cresswell, Noble, Song (Nolan), Poyet, Ibe, Jarvis (Garbutt), Valencia (Sakho)
None
Dean Hammond (Leicester)

Leicester, fresh off a 5-0 win over Palace, managed to get the job over West Ham at home, continuing the Hammers inconsistent form away from home. Jeffrey Schlupp scored the only goal of a very even match; however it is the Foxes who walk away with 3 points.

Barclays Premier League
STOKE 3-0
Adrian, Lowton, Collins, Tomkins, Garbutt, Kouyate (Noble), Song, Nolan (Poyet), Ibe, Jarvis (Amalfitano), Sakho
Diafra Sakho (x2), Jordon Ibe
Diafra Sakho (West Ham)

West Ham bounced back in the best possible way with a stirring 3-0 win over Stoke at The Boleyn Ground, including a brilliant brace from Diafra Sakho. His opening goal was the most spectacular, finding Begovic stranded out wide and launching a 45 yard shot which found the target. Goals from Ibe and another from Sakho on either side of the break sealed the win for West Ham, finishing September on a high.

Although it is still early in the season, West Ham's first six games have gone down extremely well from their point of view, sitting them in 7th position at the conclusion of September. Although there are plenty of games to play against stronger oppositions, their form at the moment - especially at home - should give them confidence ahead of a month which includes games against Southampton and Manchester City.

Player Of The Month

Jordon Ibe

Morgan Amalfitano will have a tough time breaking back into the first team at West Ham due to the brilliant form of loanee winger Jordon Ibe, who scored twice in three matches in September. The Liverpool man is certainly impressing with his dribbling and speed so far, and will look for more dazzling performances in the season ahead.

Injury Update

Andy Carroll tore ankle ligaments on the 8th of July and is expected to be out for a further 3 to 5 weeks.
Good results in this update, nice to see Ibe is doing well :)
Shame about the Leicester game but otherwise a great month
A bit of a patchy start to the season. But some good wins over good teams, Swindon and Leicester losses must have been disappointing though. I'm enjoying this story, keep it up mate. :)
Start picking up points as there is little difference between the top and the bottom of the table. The only thing that Leicester had prior to that game was greater momentum (than you're 2-0 win of Swansea)
Better month for sure, but much improvement to be made personally!

Diafra Sakho's much celebrated goal against Stoke has been honoured with the goal of the month award after scoring an audacious 45 yard lob into an open net. The 24 year old striker, recently capped by Senegal, was happy with the award win but insisted the goal was just a fluke.

"I don't know what Begovic was thinking; he left the goal wide open for me. Anyone could have scored it. I'd just like to thank Begovic for that mistake."

The goal, shown above, was the first of three in a 3-0 win over Stoke in which Sakho scored twice and beat out nominations from Angel Di Maria and Craig Gardner to clinch the award. Elsewhere, Jordon Ibe finished runner up in Young Player Of The Month for West Ham after scoring twice in three games over the course of the month.
