Jenkins Departs Wimbledon

After twenty-eight appearances for The Dons, Ross Jenkins has called time on his spell at AFC Wimbledon as he joins relegated Oldham Athletic for £40,000.

Jenkins was never a first-team starter in his time at Kingsmeadow, with 17 of last seasons appearances coming from the bench.

Last season he created two goals, which he feels that he should have contributed more on top of that, he said in a recent interview.

With this departure it may mean that George Glendon may not actually go out on loan anymore due to the numbers in centre-midfield being subsided.

Striking Duo Leave Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon strikers Tom Elliott and Adebayo Azeez have both left the club with immediate effect with fees included.

The pair made a combined forty-four appearances last season under Dave Beasant, in a season where his Dons narrowly missed out on promotion - knocked out of the Play-Offs in the semi-final.

Adebayo Azeez arrived at Kingsmeadow last season before Beasant was in place at the club. He joined from Charlton Athletic on a free transfer.

Now the Nigerian Under-20 international has left the club seven goals later, joining National Conference side Aldershot Town for a fee of £22,000.

As for Tom Elliott, he joined the League Two side after his contract with Cambridge United expired. The Leeds United graduate scored 15 goals in 31 appearances for Cambridge in the 2012/13 season.

He now leaves Wimbledon after scoring only four goals from 18 appearances, linking up with fellow League Two side York City for a tidy fee of £65,000.
Overhaul of the squad, although it is always good to get rid of those deemed unworthy to the team.

Beasant's Dons Beat Q.P.R In League Cup

AFC Wimbledon recorded a historic win over Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers - putting Beasant's side into the Second Round of the cup.

Nigel Clough's side were the favourites going into the fixture at Loftus Road, with the former Derby manager predicting a walkover for his side - that's where it all went wrong for his men.

It was AFC Wimbledon's new signing Warren Bentley, signed from Winchester City who opened the scoring on 12 minutes.

The strikers opener was then cancelled out by Canadian winger Junior Hoilett 22 minutes later in the 34th minute.

Wimbledon managed to keep the game very well-contested until the final whistle, with The Dons having more possession of the ball in the end.

The game went to extra-time and it took a Damian Reeves strike to send Dave Beasant's men through to the Second Round in the 102nd minute of the game.

AFC Wimbledon will now play Stoke City at Griffin Park later this month in the Second Round of the Capital One Cup, with The Potters receiving a bye to the 2nd Round.
We have had an absolutely brilliant start to the season, picking up eleven points with three wins and two draws to our name. We have done excellent in what has been a tough couple of League Cup fixtures against Stoke and Queens Park Rangers, and now face Premier League AFC Bournemouth in the Third Round. Our new signings have fitted in perfect and we look on course for a successful season here at Wimbledon.

LEAGUE TABLE

We have ended the month in a very, very positive position. We sit in second place after five games and eleven points are now on the board. It's a position we can continue to build on and strengthen if it needs to be.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Warren Bentley

The striker has settled in unbelievably well into this league and has scored four goals from seven appearances, including goals against Stoke and Queens Park Rangers. I hope this form can continue further into the season as it will prove lethal with Reeves alongside him up front.

NEXT MONTH: SEPTEMBER

We begin the month against the team that prevented our promotion last season, as we clash with Leyton Orient in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. We have quite a difficult month actually in terms of league fixtures, as we play Northampton who were a solid team in last seasons campaign, we continue as we play against Newport County who are level on points with us in third place. Accrington boast the attacking force that is Billy Kee so that is a danger we must look to prevent, and Exeter are the highest scoring team in the league currently. On top of that, we face Premier League side AFC Bournemouth in the League Cup Third Round.

Beasant: Why Shouldn't We Go Up?

AFC Wimbledon manager Dave Beasant has held an exclusive interview with us at The South London Press about everything Wimbledon.

Fourteen months ago, Neal Ardley was offered a managerial role at Leyton Orient who had just been relegated. A manager hunt began at AFC Wimbledon and legendary Dons keeper Dave Beasant took control of the club in July 2014.

Dave Beasant said: "It's been an incredible year for the club and myself personally. I took the job with a few doubts, I can admit that now, but I didn't back then as I felt it spread a great deal of insecurity about my position here. But now those issues have now been put aside after I completed my first season here and finished the highest AFC Wimbledon has ever reached in the footballing ladder."

The former Chelsea keeper led AFC Wimbledon into 6th place last season in League Two - the highest the club have ever reached in the football ladder since their establishment in May 2002.

"To have those fans chanting your name after what? 25... 30 years? I know that unfortunately due to recent events that some of those fans doing that back then do not come here anymore, they have gone to that team we do not like to name. But those fans I know that stayed here, stayed and supported their history, backed up by gallons of passion - they can still call this the Wimbledon F.C.. They can still chant their songs they used to sing at Plough Lane, they are Wimbledon F.C. and I love it, because I was born into that family thirty years ago." The boss continued.

Wimbledon Football Club relocated to Milton Keynes in September 2003, The move took the team from South London, where it had been based since its foundation in 1889, to Milton Keynes, a new town in Buckinghamshire.

Hugely controversial, the move's authorisation prompted the formation of AFC Wimbledon by disaffected Wimbledon supporters in June 2002. The relocated club played home matches in Milton Keynes under the Wimbledon name from September 2003 until June 2004, when following the end of the 2003–04 season it renamed itself Milton Keynes Dons F.C.

"Ah, I was at Brighton at the time that news broke that they were relocating. I was absolutely fuming, even though I'd left the club fifteen years before. I'm still not happy that the Football League did nothing about it, leaving it up to these glorious fans to pick up the pieces and create this club that I am so proud to be manager of. I never want to leave this post here, I dedicated nine years of my life to this club before, and I want to work with the fans to make this place successful once more. I don't see why that should be difficult?"

The Dons currently sit in third place in League Two after a weekend loss to the new league leaders Newport County.

"This weekend was disappointing. I feel that we needed them points to keep up the momentum, but obviously it wasn't to be. But I still think we can go up. We have the quality, backed up by the fans, there is no outstanding reason why we aren't capable of leaving this league behind and starting a new chapter - I'm determined to introduce League One and beyond to this club, so I'm going to do it." The England international finished.
I agree with Beasant!
2015-08-15 17:32#218601 Jer : I agree with Beasant!
Dave knows best ;)
Amazing update as usual and wow.. beating QPR AND Stoke?! Huge achievement.
I have to quote the last guy: "Amazing update as usual and wow.. beating QPR AND Stoke?! Huge achievement".

BTW, loving the story. Keep it up!

After a great run in the Capital One Cup for us, the adventure finally ended with a home defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth in the Third Round of the competition. Our youth graduate Ryan Wearing opened his AFC Wimbledon scoring account with a brace against Accrington Stanley in a non-stop 4-4 draw at The Crown Ground. We finish the month in a sky-high 2nd place, one point behind Notts County, although they do have a game in hand on us now.

LEAGUE TABLE

It's hardly handy having played one more game than a large majority of the league, but standing in the automatic promotion spots, four points ahead of Portsmouth is a good start. We will lose some games to come, without a doubt, but maintaining a top three position is pivotal this season with such a good squad on my hands.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

DANIEL AKINDAYINI

When I signed up the three trialists from Spurs, Chelsea and Man City, little did I know that one of them will go onto play this well. Daniel Akindayini scored three goals this month, but his performances stood out more than his goal tally. The 19-year-old's physical presence on the wing and up-front is now becoming one of the most feared forces in League Two this season, with the former Spurs player standing at 6'2" Akindayini bullies defenders and converts them into goals so far.

NEXT MONTH: OCTOBER

The upcoming month of October doesn't seem to intimidating besides the fixture against 4th placed Portsmouth midway through the month. Most of the other teams are either midtable or lower half, which is always a good thing.
Great story here! Great season so far, keep it up and up you'll go!
Welshy + blitzkreigblue: Thanks very much lads :D

Shea Unhappy at Beasant Treatment

AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper James Shea has today come out in the press about his recent spat with his Wimbledon boss Dave Beasant.

The young former Arsenal keeper signed for The Dons under the Neal Ardley regime last season, before Beasant's arrival as head coach at Kingsmeadow.

Shea believed he was to become Beasant's number one choice as the shot-stopper, but the arrival of Jak Alnwick changed all of that and the 24-year-old was left playing second fiddle to the former Newcastle United keeper.

Now in a recent dispute over first-team playing time, Shea has been left unnerved by talks with his coach and now wants a move away from Wimbledon in January.

Declan John Signs up on Loan

Cardiff City's Declan John has agreed a three-month loan with League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon.

Since the departure of David October, returning to his former club Ipswich Town after one season at Wimbledon's Kingsmeadow, Dave Beasant has been left short in the left-back department with only Sean Newton being the only recognised left-back at the club.

The Wales international played nine times for his parent club last season as Cardiff finished in a commendable fifth place in the Championship.

Before that, the youngster made twenty appearances for Cardiff in their Premier League season of 2013/14 before being shipped out on loan to League Two side Notts County the following season.

This means that both of Wimbledon's left-backs have been signed from Welsh clubs playing in English leagues, with Newton signing from Wrexham in the National Conference League.
