2015-08-22 02:29#219005 squirmy420 : Great story here! Great season so far, keep it up and up you'll go!
Cheers mate :D

October wasn't the month we needed as we head towards the Christmas period, which in my eyes is the most important part of the year for any team. We lost two games and drew one in the league, but managed to scrape through into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Quarter-Final from a win against Dagenham & Redbridge. I am most pleased with our 1-0 win over Pompey, though, as they were the main threat coming into this month for us. But next month is the completion of the expansion of Kingsmeadow, meaning we will play our first match back at our home for the first time this season - so hopefully that will give our lads a boost.

LEAGUE TABLE

We have sadly dropped two places in the league since the end of last month, but we still remain in with a shout for promotion and that is the main thing for us this season.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

GRANT HALL

Hall has started every single league match this season and has played great all the way through, but has been outshone by truly outstanding performances every month apart from this one. The youngster has shown consistency and composure at an unpreferred right-back position and has coped wonderfully, earning this month's award.

NEXT MONTH: NOVEMBER

Although we only play four league games, they are actually against very tough teams. We play Crawley - currently in sixth place, Morecambe who sit in tenth place, just two points off of fifth placed Exeter. The biggest challenge however, will be Notts County - currently in 2nd place and boast the league's top scorer in Adam Campbell who has 11 goals in 13 games.

Dons Receive Plough Lane Return Boost

AFC Wimbledon will be able to submit a planning application for a new stadium at their spiritual home, Plough Lane.

An independent report for Merton Council has confirmed the site of Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium could be used for 'sporting intensification'.

"There is still a long way to go and a lot of hard work to be done," Dons chief executive Erik Samuelson told the club website.

"But this is a significant moment in our plans to return to Wimbledon."

He added: "We can now move to the next stage of the process."

Wimbledon will look to submit plans to redevelop the Greyhound Stadium, proposing an 11,000-capacity ground which could later be expanded to 20,000.

The construction of 600 homes in conjunction with Galliard Homes was also part of their redevelopment plans.

Merton Council received other proposals on the future of the site, including a suggestion for a new greyhound stadium, as part of their "call for sites", which asked for suggestions for sites which have the potential for development or redevelopment within the borough.

The council had designated the site for 'sporting intensification' and that has been endorsed by an independent inspector.

AFC Wimbledon will now refine their plans for a public consultation and subsequently submit a planning application.

The Dons see a move to Plough Lane, and Merton, as a return to the club's rightful home.

The original Wimbledon F.C. were forced to leave Plough Lane in 1991 following the publication of the Taylor Report which, in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster, recommended that all top-flight sides should play in all-seater stadiums.

The club shared Selhurst Park with Crystal Palace until 2003, when they moved to Milton Keynes, having been given permission to relocate by an independent commission a year earlier.

AFC Wimbledon, formed in 2002 in response to the relocation, have played all their home games at Kingsmeadow, also home to Kingstonian, and took over the leasehold of the ground in March 2003.
Great couple of updates here. Not the best end to the month, but you're still in the running! You can do it!

Once again we seem to be slipping into a bad run of form, replicating the events of last season as we only picked up half the points of the available twelve on offer at the start of the month in the league. I expected the return to Kingsmeadow to have a positive effect on the squad, but it just seems like nothing has changed from Griffin Park. We were knocked out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after a 4-1 battering at the hands of Colchester United. But we scraped our way through to the Second Round of the F.A. Cup with a penalty win against Burton Albion at home.

LEAGUE TABLE

Following our losses to both Notts County and Morecambe (who somehow managed a seven place rise from 10th to 3rd this month), we find ourselves hanging outside the automatic promotion spots once again this month in fourth place. At least one positive is that we are all on the same amount of games played each, meaning no one has a game advantage on us anymore.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

STEPHEN HUNT

The 34-year-old winger isn't exactly the speedster that some may require at this level of football, but by God does this man put a shift in when asked. The left-winger scored three goals this month, two being from the penalty spot as he demonstrated his composure in front of goal. Hunt is just the kind of winger you need in League Two as he has an unquestionable work rate, along with the ability to cross a ball and to finish off a chance - the man is perfect for this level.

NEXT MONTH: DECEMBER

December will cap off a great year of growth for this team I took over and handled, it is also a very short month compared the hectic months of previous as we only play three league games, with one fixture against League One outfit Bolton Wanderers in the F.A. Cup, who are currently on a very good run on their schedule.
Bentley doing his bits, good to see. Some great updates after a bit of catching up for me to do!
2015-08-22 21:35#219055 squirmy420 : Great couple of updates here. Not the best end to the month, but you're still in the running! You can do it!
I hope we do as you say mate :P

Wimbledon Duo Loaned Out to Conference

After only six appearances between AFC Wimbledon's James Shea and Barry Fuller, Dave Beasant has finally agreed to loan out the pair.

Barry Fuller has only managed to make five appearances this season for Beasant's Dons, with the arrival of Grant Hall and back-up option of Jack Smith keeping the 31-year-old out of first-team affairs this season.

The Ashford-born full-back joined at the beginning of Neal Ardley's reign at Kingsmeadow in 2013, signing for Wimbledon on a free transfer following his release from Barnet in their relegation season. Fuller will now leave on a season-long loan to Grimsby in the Conference National.

The second departure out of the club is Wimbledon's number two goalkeeper James Shea, who leaves amid reports of a fallout with club manager Dave Beasant over lack of match playing time.

The former Arsenal graduate signed for Wimbledon after one season at Ryman Premier League side Harrow Borough in the 2013/14 season. He made eight appearances for The Dons last season, conceding 18 goals and not managing to keep one clean sheet.

Shea will now move to Conference National side Barrow for the remainder of this season, with his contract running out this upcoming summer.

It was a shame this month was so short because we actually did okay for the first time in a while here. We somehow managed a 4-1 win over a League One side, currently in 2nd place, exploiting the likes of Yaya Sanogo and Marc Albrighton in the F.A. Cup Second Round and we now go onto face Morecambe in the Third Round of it. We thrashed Wycombe by the same scoreline, except it was in the league, which takes priority for obvious reasons.

LEAGUE TABLE

You may think it looks quite poor on points and the fact that we have dropped one more place in the league down to fifth, but when you look at the games played, you realise that we have three, yes, three games in hand on third, second and first place - should we win all our games it will take us up nine points, currently enough to move into second place.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

PAUL HUNTINGTON

At the beginning of this season, it was trialist Alex Davey who was starting all of the time at the back with Karleigh Osborne, but the former Preston North End centre-back has now received a regular starting spot now after a great run of form early in the season. But December was one of his best months yet as he led the line with great leadership.

NEXT MONTH: JANUARY 2016

After a very light month in terms of matches in December, we start the New Year with NINE MATCHES. Eight in the league, one in the cup against league leaders Morecambe in the Third Round. I can't see us winning every single one of them, but we must go out there and believe we can.
2015-08-23 11:13#219071 CoreyE : Bentley doing his bits, good to see. Some great updates after a bit of catching up for me to do!
He's done quite well to be fair, it's a big step up!

Osborne Makes Wimbledon Stay Permanent

After one-and-a-half years on loan at Kingsmeadow, Bristol City's Karleigh Osborne has finally made his switch to AFC Wimbledon a permanent one.

The centre-back was initially signed by former Dons manager Neal Ardley on a season-long loan. Ardley left the club shortly after, leaving Dave Beasant to inherit such a squad.

Osborne played mostly alongside fellow loanee Mathias Bossaerts - the Belgian youngster from Manchester City, signed under Dave Beasant though.

This partnership consolidated a decent season defensively, aiding Wimbledon's push for the Play-Offs that season. Dave Beasant renewed Osborne's loan from Bristol City the following season [the current season] after being impressed by what he saw of the 27-year-old.

With Osborne's contract with Bristol running out this summer, Beasant saw the opportunity to purchase his man at a low fee - £33,000 was the official sum given by the club.

Osborne has taken a pay cut to join Beasant's boys for two years, earning £1,000 instead of the £1,300 he was on at Bristol City.

In other transfer news, Declan John has also extended his stay at Kingsmeadow until the end of the season before returning to Cardiff this summer.

Rowell Departs Wimbledon For Bradford

After only six months at the club, AFC Wimbledon midfielder Jonny Rowell has forced a move to League One side Bradford City.

So much was expected of the Hartlepool academy graduate following his move from Belgium's top-flight side Waasland-Beveren in the summer on a free transfer, but the midfielder never gave much.

The 26-year-old made eighteen appearances for Beasant's Dons before today's departure, with sixteen of them appearances coming from the bench.

Rumours were that the Belgian Second League title winner had fallen out with Beasant over failing to start him in matches. Those rumours were shortly quashed as the official news of his departure to Yorkshire came out.

Rowell had to watch on the bench for most of the season as the likes of Jake Reeves and Paul Mooney got ahead of him in the pecking order at the club.

The midfielder now leaves Kingsmeadow for Valley Parade for a grand fee of £400,000.

In other news concerning departures, Jack Smith and Michael Tonge have both been released by the club with immediate effect, and George Glendon has left the club on loan to Tranmere - linking up with fellow Wimbledon player De'Jaune Taylor-Crossdale at Prenton Park.

Two More Through The Wimbledon Door

Two more players have come through the AFC Wimbledon gates today, as Laste Dombaxe arrives on loan, with Nathan Doyle agreeing a permanent move to Kingsmeadow.

The duo arriving at the club takes Wimbledon's completed deals up to four for this winter window, with the club already finalising a six-month extension on Declan John's loan from Cardiff, as well as the permanent purchase of Karleigh Osborne from Bristol City following one-and-a-half years of loan deals at the club.

Nathan Doyle was the first to join the club from Luton Town in League One for a fee of just under £15,000. The former League Cup finalist had six months remaining on his deal at Kenilworth Road and so The Hatters transfer-listed the midfielder to attempt to scrounge a fee out of him.

The 29-year-old agreed a deal that keeps him at Kingsmeadow for until July 2018 after making 27 appearances for Michael Appleton's men this season following their promotion from League Two last season.

The signing of Laste Dombaxe came just five days after the confirmation of Doyle's arrival, with the Angolan to spend the remainder of the season on loan to Dave Beasant's side.

The right-winger spent the first half of the season at League One side Peterborough United after realising his first-team chances at Sheffield Wednesday were limited due to the loan arrival of Norwich's Jacob Murphy and Paul Anderson already within the Wednesday ranks.

The news of Doyle's signing takes Wimbledon's transfer spend this season up to just under £50,000 - with the only other player commanding a fee being the signing of Karleigh Osborne for £33,000.

Dave Beasant has also recouped £10,000 after confirming the permanent departure of unhappy goalkeeper James Shea as he leaves Kingsmeadow for Barrow after spending two months on loan at Holker Street already.

In January, although we won the majority of our games I found that our greatest victory of the month was going out of the F.A. Cup, as well as not losing any major names in our squad - such as Jak Alnwick who was linked with a move north to Sunderland. But in terms of results we did absolutely excellent, with our only league loss coming against Swindon Town due to a 91st-minute winner by The Robins' Alex Pritchard. We are still three games behind all the teams above us, so we can only look upwards from here.

LEAGUE TABLE

As said earlier, we are in fourth on the basis that we have three games in hand - a potential nine points, just get into the top three. We have kept up the pace with Morecambe in that if we win the next three games in hand we will only be two points behind the league leaders, so we have to hope that we don't slip up in the coming fixtures.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

DECLAN JOHN

I signed Declan from Cardiff initially as an emergency back-up player in October, but I am absolutely delighted that I extended his loan deal here until the end of the season otherwise we wouldn't have seen such brilliant performances from him this month. He scored his first goal for us in our first league game of the New Year against Forest Green Rovers and he has fully deserved it considering the performances he has given us recently.

NEXT MONTH: FEBRUARY

I think that we will manage to catch up with our games in hand this month if you take into account the amount of mid-week fixtures and the fact that all the games we play this month are in the league now due to our fourth round exit of the F.A. Cup last month. In terms of who we play we are in luck, playing bottom of the league Eastleigh, but the only top-six sides are Mansfield and Exeter!

Murray Released, Beasant Shows Interest

Just as the transfer window slams shut, Crystal Palace have today officially confirmed the immediate termination of Glenn Murray's contract at Selhurst Park.

In 2011, Murray signed from rivals Brighton & Hove Albion for Crystal Palace on a free transfer, on a three-year contract. The Eagles' manager at the time, Dougie Freedman said that Murray was a very important addition to the club.

The same year, Murray elated Palace fans by scoring the extra-time winner against Manchester United in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.

But since The Eagles landed in the Premier League for the first time in nine years in 2013, Murray found his match time had decreased from 42 appearances in the Championship, to only 14 in their first season in the top-flight.

Since their first season in the Premier League, Murray has only managed 17 first-team appearances for Crystal Palace, and so offered the option of the termination of his contract at Selhurst Park after only seven appearances this season.

A settlement fee was agreed by both parties and now Murray is free to operate anywhere he wants. AFC Wimbledon's Dave Beasant is the first to show interest in the 32-year-old striker.

The Dons boss spoke of Murray recently at Moatside: "He is a strong player, he must be 6 foot 2 or something? He's played his last few seasons in the Premier League so I think if we can come to an agreement of some sort, that we will be in for a treat.

Beasant continued: "He is obviously wanting to play regular football, otherwise he would have sat around and just took in the cash at Crystal Palace, and we could definitely offer that to a player of Glenn's calibre, so I say 'why not?'"
