Before we start with anything, my previous update about Glenn Murray has now resulted in the transfer being completed, and Murray is now our highest wage earner at the club, earning £3,500 per week. But about results, we started the month in a brilliant fashion, winning our first two games against Dagenham & Redbridge and York 2-0 and 3-1 respectively. We slightly lost our way midway through February, but I would put that down to jadedness as February is the shortest month in the calendar year, but we have played one of the busiest months in it.

LEAGUE TABLE

Now we are level in terms of matches played in the league, we have risen two places in the league and are now just one point away from a top spot in the league should we get more goals than Morecambe. It was in fact Crawley that were walked over by us as they went from second spot into sixth spot and Carlisle stood still in third place. We are now a safe five points away from Northampton, who sit just outside the automatic promotion spots in fourth place.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

JAKE REEVES

I am actually surprised myself that I have never given Jake Reeves this award as he has been an absolute star since I came into the managerial role here at Wimbledon in July 2014. The 22-year-old has played alongside Paul Mooney in central midfield since Mooney arrived from Northwich Victoria almost two years ago now. Such a youthful spine in the team has proven very successful, particularly this season as they have both added flair and energy, but it was Reeves who won the award this month.

NEXT MONTH: MARCH

Next month isn't exactly going to be 'easy' or 'difficult' as such, but we play a lot of teams around midtable. Them teams are usually the biggest threat as most of them want to have one last push towards the Play-Off places before the season concludes so they will look to walk over you at this stage. Also this month we have the annual Youth Intake Day and as usual we hope to pull in players just like Ryan Wearing, Connor Stewart, and more recently, Steve Cobb - players who are already capable of playing for the first-team basically.
Amazing how you've pulled off Murray at this low. Wow! What a signing, you have to go up now!!
Brilliant season mate, looking ever closer to getting promotion! Brilliant story and a great layout.

Hutchins and Riley Bright Lights in 2016 Intake

It is two centre-backs this year that has pleased the eye of AFC Wimbledon first-team officials in this years annual youth intake day.

Last year it was two and now three players who caught the eye of Dave Beasant and his non-playing team, all three of which have played in the first-team at some point since their initial induction into the youth team.

Those players were Ryan Wearing, Connor Stewart and Steve Cobb. A striker, a winger and a full-back respectively. These three players have made a combined 33 appearances for the first-team since their arrival in the clubs senior affairs.

Striker Ryan Wearing spoke of the clubs' great staffing at youth level, claiming that it had helped his own development as well as speaking for others for the same reason.

But it is two centre-backs in Lorcan Riley and Terry Hutchins that have most impressed the youth staff and first-team staff alike in this years intake.

Hutchins was at fault in the fifth minute of the game, at the blame for an own goal, but improved considerably as the match went on.

Riley however, was solid all the way through according to youth team coordinator Jeremy Sauer. He dealt with the attacking threat of Dan Ano like a seasoned pro according to the 34-year-old.

Dave Beasant also commented on the new crop of youngsters at his disposal: "It's an exciting time of year, you get to see who you will be using in X amount of years and who will be a star and who might not be.

"I believe this current group are a talented lot and I have identified myself who I think will be a good addition to the first-team very soon."

If I'm honest, it wasn't the month that I wanted at the back-end of the season. We managed seven points out of a possible fifteen, which in all honesty, we needed more. I'm not sure if it is the deteriorating amount of matches per month or the lack of squad harmony, but something has happened in the team because it's not normal for us to lose two in a row against two low-placed teams in the league. However, we finished the month on a high against Port Vale so hopefully we can take it into our final month of the season.

LEAGUE TABLE

Entering the last month of our season, we are extremely close to the title. We have a game in hand on Morecambe who sit on top of the perch and only one point behind them. We sit just five points ahead of fourth placed Northampton so the chances of dropping out of the automatic promotion spots are hopefully low.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

GLENN MURRAY

I'm guessing you would be expecting Murray to win this award at some point as he is such a classy player coming straight down from the top-flight. This month he scored four goals out of the four he took part in. A quality return, expected of him considering he is the highest-paid player at the club.

NEXT MONTH: APRIL

Now the last month in our position is hard enough with the pressure on, but when you play current second and third placed teams like Notts County and Morecambe, it gets more intense. That's not even mentioning sixth placed Crawley Town. It looks like a very bumpy path ahead, but I hope we can pull through it all.
CoreyE: I know! I'm surprised myself that he even wanted to discuss a contract, cheers mate :)

TayBAFC: Thanks for the support buddy :D

The Hairdryer Treatment

In the dressing room... AFC Wimbledon fall to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Notts County... Five games remain and Wimbledon are one point away from top spot...

Key:
DB:
Dave Beasant
JR: Jake Reeves
NC: Neil Cox (Assistant Manager)
KO: Karleigh Osborne

DB: Sit down, lads.

NC: *under his breath* Ah dear...

DB: Right then. Does anyone care to tell me just how bad that was, what went wrong, who did what? Because I'll tell you, I've got my own idea and I don't like it.

KO: We kept the ball well, but we weren't posing much threat with it in our possession I thought.

DB: Oh, do you? Should I tell you what I thought? I'll tell you anyway! I want to know where the fucking pride is in you lot? I can see it in a few of you, don't get me wrong but by fuck do some of you lot need to consider who you are playing for here. You are football players for AFC Wimbledon, yes? When I played for Wimbledon F.C. I would die for these fans, I'd take a thunderbastard of a shot right on the tip of my nose for this club - I don't see it with you lot?! What is wrong with you?! Fair enough, if you were playing for your Accrington's, your Swindon's, you might get away with it! But no, you don't play for them small-time clubs, you play for AFC-fucking-Wimbledon my friends - these fans pay your fucking wages, and by that I literally mean that - they run the finances, they run the club?

NC: Boss, do you want a cuppa?

DB: Not now Neil. But anyway, if those fans put as much passion as you showed them tonight into how they run the club, you might as well liquidate us on the spot! Now I'm gonna be honest here, my contract as manager at this club runs out in a few months, I don't know if it will be renewed, but if it isn't, I at least want to end this season lifting up that trophy and pushing this club further into the Football League. Only you can do that for me, I spent nine years as a player at Wimbledon F.C., I want to have the same time as manager here, but only you can make that happen for me. So please, for everyone's sake, yours, mine and most importantly the fans, make us go up as fucking champions.

JR: Hey lads, the gaffer's right. Let's fucking win this league.

The Team: Yeah!

DB: Cheers Jake.

The Team: *chanting* We're going up as fucking champions!
We're going up as fucking champions!
We're going up as fucking champions!
We're going up as fucking champions!

League Two: The Final Day

It's the final day here down in the Sky Bet League Two, and it is unbelievably tight at the top of the table, meanwhile Eastleigh battle against the dread of a return to non-league football with Barnet and Stevenage at the foot of the table.

It's Radio WDON covering today's fixture between AFC Wimbledon and Forest Green Rovers. Northampton Town have magnificently shown great belief and have taken top spot and are mathematically promoted now, whereas Morecambe and our Dons will battle for promotion and the League Two title.

Fourth and fifth placed Notts County and Carlisle cannot win the title today, however they can enter the automatic promotion spots, with Carlisle actually facing 2nd place Morecambe today!

AFC Wimbledon sit in third place currently, and will be hoping Carlisle, Shrewsbury and their opponents Forest Green can do them a favour today and maybe win the league title? That's what we're all hoping for here at Radio WDON.

Looking at our recent games in April, it's been a very rocky month for us this month. Losing to Notts County, winning against Morecambe, losing against Yeovil, winning against Crawley and then losing against Wycombe - surely to complete the pattern we are due a win today, don't you think? Haha, seriously though, Forest Green have already been relegated and there is a reason for that, so hopefully we can put a few past them today.

Looking at our first-team squad, there seem to be no injury news on any player, and according to Beasant going into today, he claimed his squad were 'fully fit and wanting this league title' - always a positive note.

But today we will see the return of our leading goalscorer in the league and all competitions - Damian Reeves. The 30-year-old has been out for six weeks with a hernia. Dave Beasant will look to give his striker his 34th league appearance of the season today.

And as I say that here are the lineups!

AFCW: Alnwick (GK), Hall, Huntington, Osborne, John, Jake Reeves, Vicars, Dombaxe, Isgrove, Damian Reeves, Murray.
AFCW Subs: Mooney, Newton, Doyle, Bentley, Davey, Bulman, Hunt.

FGRFC: Maxted (GK), Sweeney, Jones, Clough, Bender, Esteban Lopez, Wedgbury, Moore, Ellison, Joel, Jones.
FGRFC Subs: Meare, Greenidge, Harris, Dyer, Harding, Jennings, Kamdjo.

Very interesting inclusion of Ian Vicars there by Beasant today. His place is usually taken by Paul Mooney, who is today relegated to the bench. The final day also marks the (possible) end of four players' Wimbledon careers, with Dannie Bulman, who is on the bench, he is retiring. Andy Frampton who did not manage to get into the travelling squad is also retiring, and Laste Dombaxe and Declan John's loan spells are ending should Wimbledon go up automatically today - although Beasant has claimed his desire to sign Dombaxe again, on a loan or permanently.

The firepower of Reeves and Murray up-front for the first time in weeks is also a huge, huge boost for us today, with 29 league goals between the two of them.

It is now 14:58 and we will now head over to our commentators - former Wimbledon favourite Lawrie Sanchez and Sam Burns.

Thank you! Welcome to today's coverage of the final day - a potential milestone in the history of AFC Wimbledon, fourteen years old next month in May!

The teams are in position... We just have to wait for the referees and Damian Reeves can kick us off today!

1': The whistle goes, Damian Reeves rolls it to Glenn Murray and it's back to Huntington. Dombaxe is given the ball wide right for Wimbledon, right next to the dugout here is the Angolan on loan from Sheffield Wednesday. It's flicked into the middle for captain Jake Reeves who sprints with the ball towards goal, Damian Reeves has it on the edge, he's spotted Murray on the outside, Glenn Murray one-on-one!!! GOAL ALREADY! We've only been here eighteen seconds and Murray has broken the deadlock at The New Lawn! A sweet left-footed finish under the keepers body and Wimbledon move into second place!

AFC Wimbledon (Murray 1') 1 - 0 Forest Green Rovers

4': The ball is deflected to Lloyd Isgrove after an attempted cross by Forest Green's Colombian winger Esteban Lopez. Murray has received it on the left-wing to allow Isgrove to freely run forward. Damian Reeves in the centre now, turns and passes to Ian Vicars, completes a one-two by returning the ball to Reeves. The striker has his back to goal but threads a pass through for Vicars to get a shot away! Corner ball! The ball is headed away but Isgrove tries placing one in the bottom-right corner, handled well by Maxted.

10': Ellison tries to cross a decent ball in, only headed away by Osborne. Moore gives the ball back to Ellison for Forest Green. Beautiful cross and Joel heads it towards goal! Miss! He's let Wimbledon off the hook there with that appalling effort!

13': Reeves tackles Lopez, the youngster is becoming somewhat of a talisman in the Wimbledon ranks recently, a great selection by Beasant for captaincy. A triangle is played between Reeves, Vicars and Isgrove. Isgrove drives towards goal, he's looking menacing here, loads of space... And he's missed, just.

14': Isgrove heads the goal kick back to where it came from, Murray nods it on to tease the Forest Green defence with their back towards the Wimbledon goal. Sweeney clears high but it only finds Jake Reeves who heads it to Isgrove. Isgrove cuts inside and it's passed to Damian Reeves now, tackled by Moore on the edge of the box and Ellison has time to turn now. Osborne masters the situation with a high ball and takes it on his chest and now has it at his feet, great composure. Isgrove takes a heavy first touch but it's still with him here. Charlie Clough fouls Damian Reeves in a very dangerous area, poor challenge. Isgrove lines up the free-kick, he's definitely shooting from here. Ah, wide of the near post. Poor effort.

17': We have news of a goal scored at Brunton Park, Carlisle have taken the lead against Morecambe, who swap positions with Carlisle.

18': Isgrove will look to put in a good cross here from the free-kick, perfect territory for a challenging cross. Bender heads clear and it's Jones latching onto the loose ball now. His pace lets him down and he is forced to wait for back up, which Lopez has offered and it is with the Colombian now. Wedgbury, threads a beautiful pass into Jones! Hits it! Offside anyway.

20': Hall throws it to Dombaxe. A powerful cross into the box here! Isgrove is almost surprised as he heads that effort wide of the post - lightning fast cross! Osborne's headed clearance only goes as far as Forest Green's Wedgbury. It's a wonderful, amazing sliding challenge by Jake Reeves who dispossesses Joel - Dombaxe in possession now. It's a long pass over the head of Bender and it's Damian Reeves in the box here, crosses one in looking for Murray, but it's Wedgbury who gets there first to head away, John has his shot deflected to Joel.

32': Maxted's free-kick flies straight to Jake Reeves who is absolutely everywhere today - a real captain's performance by him so far. Huntington plays long to Forest Green's Jones, who nods it down for Vicars. An absolutely outstanding long ball by Vicars! Here's Glenn Murray with the half-volley! Stopped by Maxted! John throws it into the box now, Murray tries a low cross across the face of goal, deflected. It's fallen for Dombaxe! First-time shot! GOAL! It's a second for AFC Wimbledon! It's Laste Dombaxe with a lightning strike of a shot! It almost broke the net! 2-0 to Beasant's Dons!

AFC Wimbledon (Dombaxe 32') 2 - 0 Forest Green Rovers

41': It's bad news for Dave Beasant. Northampton have taken the lead against Shrewsbury, meaning if scores stay the same, Northampton win League Two.

45+3': The referee calls the first-half to a close. It's 2-0 to AFC Wimbledon, who currently have no chance of winning the title due to Northampton Town's lead over Shrewsbury.

HALFTIME
AFC Wimbledon 2 - 0 Forest Green Rovers
Carlisle United 1 - 0 Morecambe FC
Northampton Town 1 - 0 Shrewsbury Town

46': Forest Green Rovers kick off the second half for us.

53': Maxted has a free-kick inside his own box. Osborne heads it to Murray. Beautiful step-overs by the striker there. Jake Reeves has picked out a fantastic pass to the oncoming Declan John out left, he passes to Isgrove who tries a shot. Blocked.

64': Alnwick hits the free-kick out left for Isgrove to challenge. Nods it down for Murray, Murray gives it back. Isgrove finds Murray once again in space, he's hit one! Caught by Maxted.

72': Reece Brown of Shrewsbury may have done AFC Wimbledon a BIG favour here! He's equalised against Northampton, bringing The Cobblers level on points with Wimbledon - Beasant's men just have to score on more goal to go top!

75': Isgrove gallops up the field with the ball. Damian Reeves passes short to Glenn Murray who's all alone up-front for Wimbledon. He's struck one! Just wide!

76': The Ellison free-kick rebounds off the wall straight back to it's taker.

80': Hall with the throw-in on the right hand side. Laste Dombaxe now has it, Damian Reeves now. Vicars is in space, Isgrove is on the left side of the box now! He's tackled! Murray hits it! Blocked! It's not going in for Wimbledon!

86': John to take the throw-in on the left hand side now. Isgrove has it, now with Vicars... That is appalling at this time. Shocking decision. He's hit it long and straight into Maxted's hands?

88': Jake Reeves has it for Wimbledon - they NEED a goal now. Time is running out. A Damian Reeves shot goes out for a corner. The corner is headed away. Damian Reeves again now on the left. Free-kick. Clough heads it out for a corner now.

90': That should end any aspirations. Tom Lawrence has scored what will be the winner at Northampton. They should go onto win the league no matter what no.

90+1': Alnwick floats a ball into the air! Full-time! We might not have won the league, but we're up! We're going up into League One! The climb goes on! Northampton Town run away with the league title, and AFC Wimbledon and Morecambe will be joining them in the third tier next season. A spectacular season for us this season, and I can't wait for next time!

FULLTIME
AFC Wimbledon 2 - 0 Forest Green Rovers
Carlisle United 2 - 2 Morecambe FC
Northampton Town 2 - 1 Shrewsbury Town

Congrats but good luck
Loads of emotions... God luck at the Playoffs now mate! Hope you can get promoted!!!

Good News Week For AFC Wimbledon

It's been a fantastic week of news this week in the AFC Wimbledon camp, as they agree a new two-year contract for Dave Beasant, announce plans to return home, a pre-contract deal for a very talented player and a glamour friendly.

First of all, The Dons have agreed to keep revolutionary manager Dave Beasant at the club for another two years.

The former Wimbledon FC goalkeeper sent AFC Wimbledon into League One last season, alongside Northampton, Morecambe and Oldham.

The contract will expire in 2018 if it is not renewed. There is no pay rise as the 57-year-old remains on a £1.2k per week deal with the only amendment being the £5,500 bonus if Beasant staves off relegation to League Two.

Secondly, and this is the news which will delight AFC Wimbledon fans more than any news in their entire 14-year existence. Wimbledon chairman Erik Samuelsen has finally announced that AFC Wimbledon will remain at Kingsmeadow until June 2017 before moving back into New Plough Lane.

New Plough Lane will be built in the vicinity, or on the site of the Wimbledon Greyhound Track, located next door to the dysfunctional old Plough Lane stadium - where Wimbledon F.C. played before it was closed down for safety measures.

The new stadium will hold a capacity of 11,000 - a 6,000 upgrade on Kingsmeadow which holds around 5,000. Another improvement is that New Plough Lane will involve undersoil heating, a function Kingsmeadow does not provide.

Thirdly, AFC Wimbledon have officially announced via their website that the runner-up to League Two's top scorer Adam Campbell will be joining The Dons in July.

Campbell netted 32 goals in all competitions last season for Notts County and Wimbledon have bargained a free transfer for the Newcastle United graduate after his contract ran out at Meadow Lane.

He lost out to Oldham's Dominic Poleon - also out of contract this summer, for the Golden Boot award in League Two.

And finally, The Dons have agreed a friendly with Premier League giants Arsenal for the 6th of July at Kingsmeadow - similar to last seasons visit from Chelsea. Beasant's side will also travel to Belgium for a friendly against AA Gent at the Ghelamco Arena.

The Current and Future “Fans’ Stadium”

It’s a solid Hollywood material, but this is happening in real life. Wimbledon rises from the dead as a fan-owned club, now in the third tier of English football.. Next step? Building a stadium to rebuild former glory for good.

14 years ago, Wimbledon F.C. were ripped apart by Pete Winkelman's MK Dons. Now AFC Wimbledon - the club risen from what was the dead entity that was The Crazy Gang.

Justice? Sort of, because now Wimbledon are playing just one league lower than MK Dons, who never became as successful as planned. But daily operation of both clubs is still far from comparable and not at all poetic for “the real Dons”. With one of the lowest budgets in League Two, Wimbledon were promoted from League Two under Dave Beasant's leadership, while MK Dons are again hoping of grabbing a Premier League play-off spot at the end of the season. And while MK Dons play at the shiny Stadium MK, Wimbledon are in a different place.

Kingsmeadow

The municipal athletic-football complex in Kingston (south-west London) was opened in 1989 and has served as home to Kingstonian FC since. The club was anchor tenant until 2002, when AFC Wimbledon came in and took over. The side resurrected by supporters also used the supporters determination and financial effort to become primary tenants.

As they moved in, supporters renamed the ground to ”The Fans’ Stadium”. At the moment of their relocation, The Dons were beginning their long way back to glory. But the rapid climb upwards forced renovations soon. In 2005/06 the west “Tempest End” stand was covered, while in 2008/09 the main stand was expanded. Finally, in 2012 a brand new east end was established, leaving only the south side very much as it was in the opening days of the stadium.

Eventually Wimbledon are planning to relocate to Plough Lane, where their old stadium used to be. Though it was demolished a long time ago, major redevelopment of the area allows for a new one to be set there.

New Plough Lane

In 2013 AFC Wimbledon teamed up with Galliard Homes, a major residential development company expected to provide much of the capital to fund the new stadium. In return, Wimbledon’s new home brings a community value to the 600 apartments that would surround it in three separate buildings. Together the two created a proposal for the 5.1 hectare site’s redevelopment.

Importantly, Wimbledon would only get one permanent stand within the first phase – the main one in the west. Together with skyboxes and other commercial facilities the stadium would enable revenue increase, while three temporary stands should bring capacity up to 11,000 for starters.

Later, should demand grow steadily, expansion would be possible within the same blueprint, also including floodlight masts from the first phase. With an entire bowl of single-tiered seating the stadium’s capacity might reach 20,000.

The groundbreaking will take place in July 2016. With timely delivery the new stadium should be ready for its first game in the summer of 2017.

AFC Wimbledon Land 7 Signings, Let 6 Leave

As Dave Beasant prepares his AFC Wimbledon side for their first venture into the heights of League One football, he announces SEVEN signings from pre-contract deals, as four leave the club.

Notts County's Adam Campbell was the first name officially announced by the club, just days after the news of New Plough Lane's construction.

Campbell was the 2nd top scorer in League Two last season, finishing the season with 27 league goals, 32 in all competitions. He also assisted 11 of his teams' goals as well.

Whether he can do it at a higher level is to be decided by himself only, but the youngster already has three Premier League appearances to his name from his time at Newcastle United.

The next player to join is Brentford's centre-back Raphael Calvet. The Frenchman spent all of last season on loan at Port Vale in League Two, making 37 appearances for The Vale in all competitions.

The Auxerre-born player only made four appearances for his parent team Brentford since arriving on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre in 2013.

The next signing is yet another one that has wowed Wimbledon fans as they announced the arrival of the League Two top goalscorer Dominic Poleon on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Oldham.

Oldham appear to be in for an awful season in League One this season as they started the transfer window with only six first-team players, after releasing eleven first-team players earlier.

But this signing means that Wimbledon now own the two top scorers in last seasons' League Two campaign, as well as Glenn Murray and Damian Reeves who scored 30 goals between them - Wimbledon are looking a very potent attacking force now.

The next signing follows Dominic Poleon from Oldham over to Kingsmeadow as Mike Jones joins on a free transfer from The Latics.

The central midfielder made fifty appearances in all competitions for Oldham last season, creating five goals and scoring one. Jones was one of the eleven Oldham first-team players that won promotion via the Play-Offs last season in League Two.

This addition will only strengthen what is a youthful midfield for Wimbledon, boasting young talent like Paul Mooney, Jake Reeves and Ian Vicars.

Now I am a believer that this is one of the strongest signings The Dons will make this summer with another French centre-back coming in for Wimbledon.

Mathieu Baudry joins us on a free transfer at the end of his Leyton Orient contract - just two seasons after crashing any chances of a Wimbledon Play-Off promotion in the 2014/15 season.

The 6'2" giant has been an integral part of Leyton Orient's first-team since joining from Bournemouth four years ago. Baudry made 154 appearances in the league in the four seasons he was at Brisbane Road.

Now at 34-years-old, Kevin Nolan is without a doubt our greatest signing in our existence based on reputation and quality.

Just last season he captained a West Ham United team to a 16th placed finish in the Premier League. If that doesn't say anything about his quality then I'm not sure what will.

He will provide an absolutely brilliant platform for Jake Reeves to build on as the 23-year-old has never experienced playing alongside a player with such quality and experience in the middle. I think everyone will benefit from this transfer.

Our final transfer of this group of players joining on free transfers is Fulham's Shaun Hutchinson. He spent all of last season on loan in League One for Bradford City, and excelled as expected.

The 25-year-old is still quite youthful for a centre-back in my eyes. He will provide brilliant challenge for Karleigh Osborne and Mathieu Baudry for that starting spot this coming season.

The players released by the club this season only includes four first-team players. Stephen Hunt leaves the club with immediate effect. Dannie Bulman has officially retired from the game. Andy Frampton has also retired, but agrees to become a first-team coach at the club. Barry Fuller leaves after last seasons loan spell at Grimsby to join Cambridge United in League Two. Development squad duo Ryan Sweeney and Danny Gallagher has also left the club.
Great signings, especially Nolan

Three More Join Beasant's Wimbledon Revolution

Last seasons' AFC Wimbledon loan star Laste Dombaxe has today agreed a permanent switch from Sheffield Wednesday to Wimbledon's Kingsmeadow. Two more follow him through the door.

The Angolan winger spent six months on loan at Kingsmeadow last season as he aided The Dons' push for League One promotion with six assists and three goals in the twenty appearances he made for Beasant's side.

With Sheffield Wednesday winning the Sky Bet Championship title last season, The Owls have since added Bournemouth's Jesse Lingard to their ranks, pushing Dombaxe further down the pecking order.

With the 21-year-old Spurs graduate going on record proclaiming he 'loved' his time on loan at Wimbledon, it has bargained a £50,000 fee agreed with Sheffield Wednesday and the youngster signed a two-year deal with the Kingsmeadow club.

After Stephen Hunt's release from The Dons, it has since left a back-up spot for first-choice left-winger Lloyd Isgrove unattained.

This gap has also been filled with the free transfer of Kyel Reid, who has been a free agent since his Preston North End contract ran out earlier this month.

The winger only made eleven appearances for North End last season and manager Dave Beasant hasn't promised the 28-year-old a place in the team for this season.

AFC Wimbledon lacked the use of a back-up goalkeeper last season as James Shea left the club in January for Barrow at a £10,000 fee, relying completely on Jak Alnwick not to pick up any knocks before the end of the season.

Luckily, he didn't. But now Dave Beasant has decided to cover that potential situation by signing up Gateshead's Jake Larkins for a £47,000 fee.

Larkins has been absolutely top-quality according to Gateshead fan Tim Kearns. The 'keeper let in 32 goals in 36 appearances in The Tynesiders' promotion season of last. He kept 17 clean sheets and won two Man of the Match awards, leading Ian Baraclough's team to Play-Off success.

In other Wimbledon transfer news, three players have gone out on loan for the season. Daniel Akindayini will move to Forest Green Rovers, George Glendon will return for another spell at Tranmere Rovers and youth team player Richard O'Sullivan moves to Wessex side Andover Town.
