Ferguson blames fixture congestion

Last Updated: 27th February 2016

Everton manager Duncan Ferguson has blamed fixture congestion, after seeing his side beaten 2-1 by West Ham at Goodison Park.

The game against West Ham was Everton's 5th game in 14 days having being taken to a replay by Manchester City in the FA Cup. Along with defeat with West Ham, that period has seen Everton defeat Man City, Southampton, Chelsea and QPR.

"It's finally caught up on us." Ferguson told Sky Sports.

"In the past two weeks, we have had 5 fixtures to play and that has taken a lot out of the players. Normally, we'd expect to play twice a week max if we were still in the cup competitions but we played 3 in a week at the start of the month. I don't care what anyone says, that takes it out of players and we've done well to win four out of the five."
