Southampton and Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long has traded the south coast for Merseyside after completing a 2.8 million pound move to Everton.

Striker Shane Long becomes Everton manager Duncan Ferguson's first signing following his appointment recently. In a statement on the official Everton website, Ferguson revealed his delight at the capture of Long.

"We are delighted that we have been able to bring Shane to the club and I would personally like to welcome him to the club. It's not every day that you can get an international player for just below 3 million pounds and we knew we had to snap him up as soon as we learned that he was available for transfer. There is no doubt that Shane is a fantastic player as he has showed it on both the Premier League and International stage and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in an Everton shirt."

Speaking on the Everton official website, Long said:"I am delighted to have joined Everton. I enjoyed my time at Southampton but now is the right time for me to move on. I was never able to nail down a first team place at Southampton but I am determined to do so at Goodison Park. I can't wait to get going and hopefully bring success to Everton."

Lazio have finally completed their pursuit of Everton's Steven Naismith, capturing the Scotland international for a fee of 12.25 million pounds.

Scotland international, Naismith, was a regular member of the Everton starting eleven last season and played 39 times, scoring on 8 occasions. Lazio's interest in securing the services of Naismith was made apparent early on in the month with Lazio manager Stefano Pioli stating that he 'liked the look' of Naismith.

BBC Sport managed to catch up with both Lazio manager Stefano Pioli and Steven Naismith as they left Lazio's training ground earlier today.

Naismith said: "I am delighted to have finally signed for Lazio. As I've said before Lazio are a great club with great fans and I am really excited to get started. I know I will have to fight for my place here but I think that will make me a better footballer. It's been a few years since Lazio won a trophy so hopefully we can win everything there is to win this season and make the fans proud."

Stefano Pioli added: "I am very happy that Steven has decided to join us and I'd like to welcome him to the club. Steven is a terrific player and should definitely push for a starting place in the side. He's an Scotland international and his performances at Everton have shown us just what he is capable of. I would not have bought him if I didn't think he was ready to partner Miroslav (Klose) upfront. I look forward to seeing the two upfront together."
couple of rough breaks there - Naismith will be a big miss man, good luck!
Intriguing move for Naismith going to Lazio! Good luck replacing him!

Everton have begun to spend some of the 12.25 million pounds they received from the sale of Steven Naismith by signing goalkeeper Timo Horn from Koln.

Horn, who turns 23 in May, has signed a three and a half year deal at Goodison Park, which will run until July 2019. The German goalkeeper has been an ever present in the Koln side since making his debut and played 143 games for the German club.

Evertonfc.com were able to get a quick word with both Timo Horn and manager Duncan Ferguson following the announcement of the 6.25 million pound move.

Horn said: "I am very happy to be here at Everton. I loved it at Koln but I felt that the time was right for a new challenge, and after seeing what a good club Everton is, I am very sure that I will be able to win trophies here. I am especially looking forward to being able to play in the Premier League and hopefully forcing my way into the German national side in the process."

Duncan Ferguson added: "It's great to have Sergio here at the club. With Tim Howard reaching the end of his career, I felt that it was important that we signed a goalkeeper during this transfer window. Whilst Timo may not replace Tim or our other goalkeeper Joel Robles, he will certainly provide fantastic back-up and competition for places."

Howard quits Goodison

Last Updated: 11th January 2016

American goalkeeper Tim Howard has decided to leave Goodison Park, joining Watford for 1.2 million pounds, citing the arrival of Timo Horn as his reason for leaving.

The American goalkeeper departs Goodison after spending 9 and a half years at Goodison Park following a three million pound move from Manchester United in the summer of 2006. Over the course of his Everton career, Howard played over 400 appearances for the Merseyside club, setting a club record for clean sheets and also finding the net in a Premier League game against Bolton Wanderers. However, the arrival of Timo Horn from Koln has forced Howard to move away from Goodison Park.

"Timo arriving is the reason I'm leaving", said Howard.

"Don't get me wrong, I don't want to leave Everton, I'd be mad to really. Everton is a great club and the fans are easily the best in the world. It's a fantastic club to play for. The arrival of Timo has forced my hand though. I'm 36, I've not got many years of football left and Timo joining means that my chances of first team football will be limited. I have to leave to play first team football."

Bony swaps Manchester for Merseyside

Last Updated: 17th January 2016

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n549/JohnWarrington/JohnWarrington022/bony_zpstn9ewi2t.png

Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony has swapped Manchester for Merseyside, joining Everton for a fee of 9.5 million pounds.

The signing of Bony comes after Everton manager Duncan Ferguson spoke of his need for strikers in the January transfer window. Bony is the second striker signing in the window for the Merseyside club following the acquisition of Shane Long from Southampton. Bony scored 2 goals in 17 appearances in his one year at Man City following a 25 million pound move from Swansea 12 months ago.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Bony said: "I am delighted to be leaving Manchester City. I never really felt welcome there and the manager never played me. By joining Everton, I am hopeful that I can play more first team football and get back to enjoying my football like I did when I was at Swansea. I'm really looking forward to building a successful partnership with Romelu Lukaku."

Everton manager Duncan Ferguson added: "I am very happy that Wilfried has decided to join us and I'd like to welcome him to the club. Wilfried is a terrific player and should definitely push for a starting place in the side. He's an Ivorian international so he already knows Arouna Kone at least. I think he'll have no problems fitting in with the rest of the squad."
Very strange pairing, I thought you might be using him as one up front and back up for Lukaku. How do you plan on getting them to work together?

I'm going to be using them in a very similar way. As Everton do in real life, I like to have my full backs as high up the pitch as possible. I noticed pretty early on that having a second tall striker could be beneficial with the amount of crosses coming in. We'll have to wait and see how it goes though.
Great signing. I had Bony on loan for 6 months & could never get the 2 to work together, interested to see how you get on! :)

Bender signs for Everton

Last Updated: 21st January 2016

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n549/JohnWarrington/JohnWarrington022/bender_zps5wtnhtjj.png

Everton have made their 4th signing of the January transfer window, signing Sven Bender from Dortmund for a fee of 6 million pounds.

Bender, 26, began his career at 1860 München before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2009. During his time at Dortmund, the German international made 143 appearances and scored four goals. Able to place in both central midfield and central defence, Bender provides valuable versatility for Everton as they look to continue their shock push for the Premier League title.

Everton manager Duncan Ferguson alluded to this versatility in an interview following the signing. "Bender is a fantastic signing for us", he said.

"With us pushing for the title and having to give 110% in every game, injuries are bound to crop up as we get deeper into the season. The signing of Sven provides us with cover for not one but two positions which will be a valuable commodity. I'm looking forward to seeing how Sven gets on here at Everton and I'm confident that he'll settle into the Everton way of life very quickly."
