Southampton and Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long has traded the south coast for Merseyside after completing a 2.8 million pound move to Everton.
Striker Shane Long becomes Everton manager Duncan Ferguson's first signing following his appointment recently. In a statement on the official Everton website, Ferguson revealed his delight at the capture of Long.
"We are delighted that we have been able to bring Shane to the club and I would personally like to welcome him to the club. It's not every day that you can get an international player for just below 3 million pounds and we knew we had to snap him up as soon as we learned that he was available for transfer. There is no doubt that Shane is a fantastic player as he has showed it on both the Premier League and International stage and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in an Everton shirt."
Speaking on the Everton official website, Long said:"I am delighted to have joined Everton. I enjoyed my time at Southampton but now is the right time for me to move on. I was never able to nail down a first team place at Southampton but I am determined to do so at Goodison Park. I can't wait to get going and hopefully bring success to Everton."
