Europa League

All 3 teams are already through after 4 games!

Faroe Premier League Gameweek 2

Game of the Week: Sporting Lisbon - Inter

Two mirror teams with very similar choices in players. A technical striker, two goalscoring wingers, a physical central midfield and a German DM!

It was the away side that got off to the best start. After Jovetic had his shot saved, Inter got a corner. And from the corner, an unlucky Gabriel Mercado rose highest to hammer a thundering header past his own keeper. 1-0 to Inter!

After this, the game got extremely boring. Nothing at all happened until half time, and Inter went into the break ahead.
As the teams went back onto the pitch, Inter fell back and Sporting took charge of the game. 10 minutes after the break Wellington Silva dribbled down the left wing, and was heading for the touchline. Alex Silva clumsily barged into his back, right in the corner of the area, and Silva fell over. Penalty to Sporting!
Adrian stepped up and..... missed! A great save from Rico!

Sporting did not give up, however. And their wingers kept working hard. After a deep cross to the far post, Carlos Mane got to the ball first, and hammered a perfect half-volley into the net. 1-1

This spurred Sporting on, and 1 minute later, their wingers were at it again! Mane came down the right, and shot the ball across the box. And at the far post, substitute Cazares had a tough task from a very tight angle, but he somehow squeezed the ball in. 2-1 Sporting!

Sporting looked sure to win now, but one man had other thoughts. Kevin Kampl got the ball in the box as we went into stoppage time. His first time shot flew into the bottom corner, to the despair of the home fans. A dramatic late equalizer! 2-2

The game ended 2-2 after a very hectic last 10 minutes. In the end, a fair result, as the teams share the points.

Game of the Week: Milan - Ajax

#1 vs #2. Last year's champions vs this year's big surprise. A weakened Milan team faced to play Depay as a striker, while Ajax continue with a winning team.

It only took a minute for Depay to repay the faith, as he hammered home a thunderous volley from a Cavaleiro cross. 1-0!

Both teams created chances after this, with Cavaleiro the biggest culprit, as he missed an open net. But the teams went into the break with Milan 1 goal up.
After half-time it took an equal amount of time for Milan to increase the lead. And it was in very similar fashion. A cross from the right wing, courtesy of Mario Fernandes, found Harry Kane in the box, among 3 defenders. He was somehow unmarked, and hammered another volley home for 2-0.

After this, Ajax tried to fight back, but struggled to create chances. And the game ended 2-0

Faroe Premier League: Gameweek 12

Game of the Week: Zenit - Shakhtar

At first glance, it is hard to explain how these two teams can be struggling at the bottom end of the table. These are two very exciting lineups, but two lineups that undoubtedly are stronger in attack than in defence. New Zenit manager Rafa Benitez tries to inspire the Russians to lift themselves off the bottom spot, by facing their strong rivals in Ukrainian Shakhtar.

However, Benitez did not get the start he wanted at his new club. Only 3 minutes in, and the one man you would not want to give a chance, was played clean through after an exquisite passing move. Zlatan did what Zlatan does. He hammered the ball home. 1-0 Shakhtar.

Despite going behind, Zenit looked inspired, and took complete charge of the proceedings. After several good team moves, it took a moment of individual brilliance to even things up. Hulk got the ball 40 metres from goal, dribbled past 3 players and hammered a shot in at the near post. 1-1!

This spurred Zenit on, and only 3 minutes later, they were ahead! A good corner from Hulk was floated in, and Garay rose to hammer a header home. 2-1 to the Russians.

In a very exciting game, both teams threw caution to the wind, and went all out attack. Several chances were created before half time, but the teams went into the break at 2-1 to Zenit.
However, only a few minutes after half time, Zenit left themselves open on the break, and Shakhtar played a slick passing move to send Yarmolenko through. He shot a bullet of a near-post shot past Oblak, and the score was 2-2.

Shakhtar were on fire now, and only 2 minutes later, Yarmolenko came down the left wing to send a tantilizing cross into the box. In came Zlatan, and you know what that means... A thunderous volley left Oblak with no chance, and Shakhtar were back in front. 2-3!

In one of the more entertaining games of the season, neither team seemed pleased. Zenit kept creating chances, and Shakhtar looked dangerous on the break. Both teams hit the woodwork after corners, and Hulk hammered a long shot off the post. But in the end, Zenit could not find the way through, despite massive pressure on the Shakhtar defence. Benitez looks to have invigorated Zenit, but the result was the same. A 3-2 win for Shakhtar.

Tevez netted a hat-trick, which included a 120 minute winner to send Zenit through. Sociedad dispatched of Ajax with surprising ease, and Leverkusen are also dumped out by Everton.

European Update

Champions League

Group A

Everton manage to steal top spot after a late surge in form. A strong finish in a very hard group

Group D

Zenit look to be the European experts of the Faroe Islands. They easily progress unbeaten, from a group that features Barcelona! Carlos Tevez' brace in the final game means he's the current top scorer of the Champions League.

Group E

Milan also easily progress as top of their group. A narrow victory in the final game means a very solid finish.

Group F

Real Madrid prove too strong for Leverkusen, but they still progress from a tough group in second spot.

Knockout Stage Draw

A really tough draw for Leverkusen and Milan, who have to face Man City and Juventus respectively. Zenit should have a decent shot vs Dortmund, and Everton look the most likely to progress, after getting the easiest draw possible, vs Sparta Praha.

Europa League

Group B

Hannover grab a surprising top spot with a perfect 6 wins. Shakhtar progress in a convincing 2nd spot.

Group C

Inter remain unbeaten and easily progress.

Group G

Lyon are the only Faroe team to keep a perfect record, as they ease their way through the group stage.

Knockout Stage Draw

Not the worst draws for any of our teams as they face German, Spanish and French opposition. All teams should have a good chance to progress.

Faroe Premier League Gameweek 13

Game of the Week: Zenit - Leverkusen

We get to see Zenit once again, as they have become the fan favourites of the league. Their games always seem to be full of goals and action. The two teams once again look very strong. Zenit add a bit more bite in midfield, and move De Bruyne to the wing. The only weak spot in the Leverkusen side might be the defensive midfield.

In an open game, both teams created chances from the start. It was, however, Zenit that once again struck first. Tevez dribbled down the right wing and crossed for De Bruyne who volleyed home. 1-0 to the home side.

Zenit are not known for holding onto leads, however, and this game was no different. 15 minutes after taking the lead, the game was even again! A great cross from Mayke found Gaitan, who had managed to shake off his marker. Once again a volley found the net, as the Argentine evened things up. 1-1

5 minutes later, and Zenit won back the lead. Hulk dribbled past two opponents and hammered a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. A great goal from the Brazilian who has been in great form of late. 2-1!

The teams went into the break at 2-1, and for once, the game grew a bit dull. It took a brilliant set piece to add to the scoring. Leverkusen got a free kick on the edge of the box, and Carlos Vela stepped up to curl a fantastic strike into the top corner. 2-2!

At this point, it would be classical Zenit to give up the final goal and fail to find an equalizer, but in this case, Gaitan decided to help out. He tackled Hulk in the box, but the ball fell very nicely to Carlos Tevez, completely unmarked in front of the net. The little pitbull made no mistake. 3-2 to Zenit!

Zenit held on to claim a priceless victory in their fight to move away from the relegation spots. Benitez has made his mark!

Faroe Premier League Gameweek 14

Game of the Week: Dynamo Kyiv - Milan

#1 vs #2 in the table clash in a crucial game. The best attack in the league meet the best defence in what should be a thrilling battle.

The home side started off best, creating several chances, but Courtois in the Milan goal was on fire, stopping all shots in the first half. Thus, the teams went into the break level. As the game was being played in rough snowy conditions, the teams found it hard to play proper football.

After the break, Dynamo Kyiv came out firing, and only 1 minute after half-time, they got their reward.
Berardi recieved the ball on the edge of the box, and threaded a lovely ball through for Suarez. The Uruguayan made no mistake, slotting past a helpless Courtios. 1-0 to the home side!

This meant that Milan had to change things around. A couple of subs were made, and the away side started creating more chances. Some good saves from Lloris kept the lead for Kyiv, but with more and more chances being created, it was only a matter of time before the Rossoneri would make it count. A deep cross from Cavaleiro found Dybala completely free in front of goal, and the Argentine hammered it home. 1-1!

Both teams created chances after this, but the keepers had a good game, and the game ended in a draw. A big advantage to all the other teams that chase the leaders.
