ALESSANDRO LUCARELLI MOVES INTO BACKROOM STAFF AS ASSISTANT MANAGER

03 July 2017

________________________________________
- Legendary central defender replaces Bruno Redolfi as Paolo Vanoli’s assistant manager
- Hopes that he can do half as good a job as his predecessor
- Is confident that Parma can continue their recent good work

Parma manager Paolo Vanoli has today confirmed that Alessandor Lucarelli, the club’s iconic former captain who retired at the end of last season, has today been appointed as his new assistant manager. The 39 year old former central defender replaces the outgoing Bruno Redolfi whose contract also expired at the end of last season. The move is believed to have been long in the pipeline as Vanoli had reportedly known about Lucarelli’s retirement from playing since around the Christmas time.

When quizzed about the decision to sign Lucarelli on as his assistant manager Vanoli was very forthcoming. ”It was a no brainer really. Bruno informed me of his decision to leave the club very early on after Christmas and it fortunately coincided with Alessandro telling me that he intended to retire from playing at a similar sort of time. Like I said it was a no brainer to appoint him as my assistant manager. He knows this club through and through, it is in his blood and he is adored by the fans and the players here. Everyone knew what a big figure he is for the club so to keep him at the club in an official basis is brilliant. He is studying for his coaching badges and when he gets them he will be an even bigger asset for me as we try to take this club back to the top of the game again.”

The former defender was also very open about his plans stating ”It was never my intention to leave this club after I retired and it was a big relief when Paolo asked me if I wanted to be a part of his backroom staff. Originally there were offers for me to join as a youth team coach but Paolo was very open about his plans to have me as assistant and as soon as Bruno Redolfi told him that he was going to leave, Paolo offered me the job and here I am. Now I just hope I can do as good a job as Bruno did and help this team continue with the good work that we are doing at the minute because the club is on the right tracks with Paolo in charge and long may it continue.”

PARMA COMPLETE TRIPLE HEADER OF SIGNINGS

15 July 2017

Paolo Vanoli has confirmed his first three signings of the summer as Carl Medjani arrives on a free transfer, Kevin Mendez from AS Roma and Arlind Ajeti arrives on loan from Serie B rivals Frosinone.
________________________________________
- Former Monaco and Ajaccio defender Carl Medjani signs on free transfer
- Hotly tipped forward Kevin Mendez arrives on three year deal from Roma
- Albanian defender Arlind Ajeti completes loan switch from Serie B side Frosinone

Parma manager Paolo Vanoli has today confirmed the first three signings of the summer as Carl Medjani, Kevin Mendez and Arlind Ajeti have all been confirmed as Parma players this morning. Whilst Medjani and Ajeti are perfectly capable central defenders for Serie B, Kevin Mendez is capable of playing in the shadow striker role that Mattia Minesso has made his own, as well as his favoured and more natural position of playing up front. Chairman Nevio Scala took to twitter after the confirmation to state ”I would like to welcome all three of the new recruits to Ennio Tardini, they are very good players that should do extremely well here.”

The first of the new players to arrive through the door is Algerian national team central defender and former AS Monaco and AC Ajaccio player Carl Medjani who arrives on a free transfer after being released by Gimnastic in Spain’s Liga Adelante in June. The defender who has made 46 appearances, scoring two goals for his nation stated in his first official interview with Parma’s official website ”I am over the moon to be here. It is a magnificent club with a lot of history over the last 20/30 years and they deserve to be at the top and hopefully I can help them achieve that.”

Whilst being a natural at centre back, Medjani is also capable of filling the defensive midfield role as well as being a more then able ball playing defender and Paolo Vanoli claimed ”He is a very good player that is perfect for a club at the level we are at. If he does his job well this year then he will be a great signing and we will be in with a very good shot at having a good season.”

The second of the three signings is Uruguayan forward Kevin Mendez, signed from Serie A giants AS Roma for a fee of around £150K, and has made 20 youth team appearances for the Uruguayan national team. The forward claimed that if he was given the opportunity he was capable of shining at the Ennio Tardini. ”I’m still young and this is a great opportunity for me to show people what I can do and how good of a player I want to be. I will give my all for Parma and hopefully have a good season here and help us achieve something special.”

Paolo Vanoli was once again very forthcoming with his praise for his latest recruit. ”He is an exceptionally talented young player who can score goals and create as well. He made several appearances for Roma last year and showed what he is capable of doing and in my first season at Parma he scored 7 goals for Lausanne in Switzerland. It might not be a lot but he showed what he can do and I hope that he can do the same here. We have a good set of young strikers in Kevin and in Denis Baumgartner and together they are going to drive this club forward, hopefully with a lot of goals!”

The final new arrival at Stadio Ennio Tardini is Albanian central defender Arlind Ajeti, capped five times by his nation and is a Champions League experienced defender. ”He is a very good defender that is going to be a very good loan move for us in the long run I am sure of that much. He has played Champions League football with Basel as well as in Serie A with Frosinone and for a club at our level that is absolutely massive. We hope he can go on to form an extremely close relationship with the other defenders at the club and hopefully he can make a big impact at this club.” Claimed manager Paolo Vanoli after the arrival of Ajeti at Parma’s training ground.

Meanwhile the player also gave his thoughts on the transfer claiming ”It feels great to be here. There is a manager who is really passionate about the club and a group of players that really want to succeed at this club. With any luck we can have a really good season and go a long way to restoring this club to the level we should be at.”

Some brilliant acquisitions, they'll certainly help you to hit the ground running!

GYOMBER AND PEREIRA COMPLETE ENNIO TARDINI TRANSFERS

05 August 2018

Norbert Gyomber and Pedro Pereira are the latest players to join Parma’s Serie B squad.
________________________________________
- Slovakian defender arrives from Catania after helping side to promotion last year
- Portuguese full back arrives on loan from Sampdoria after spending last year with Belenenses
- Players add quality reinforcements to Parma’s defence

Parma manager Paolo Vanoli has today confirmed the latest acquisitions to his squad as Slovakian defender Norbert Gyomber and Portuguese full back Pedro Pereira have arrived at the Ennio Tardini from Catania and Sampdoria respectively. The two players are believed to have been signed as they address priority positions for the manager, especially after Carl Medjani suffered a broken foot that will keep him out of action for 4 to 5 months, and former right back Francesco Luoni was sold to English club Crewe Alexandra.

After the signing of Gyomber was confirmed from fellow Serie B side Calcio Catania, manager Paolo Vanoli was over the moon at the signing of the defender who spent the 2015/2016 season on loan at Serie A giants AS Roma. Speaking to Parma’s official club website, the Slovakian defender, who has played 14 times for his country stated ”This is a magnificent club with an awful lot of history. If I can play any role in helping it get back to its best than I would be completely honoured. It’s no secret that having spent time at Roma I wanted to carry on playing at that level, but by plying my trade at Catania for the last few years, I’ve learnt humility and by playing here at Parma now I can use everything I’ve learnt over the last few years and develop my game whilst helping this brilliant club get back to where it belongs.”

His new manager Vanoli gave this thoughts based on his new signing, confirming his delight at the move; ”We’ve signed a top quality defender that really should be playing at a higher level. He is perfectly good enough and for him to have played 14 times for his country shows just how highly rated he is. Hopefully he can build a good relationship with Denis here and can really help this team progress up another level, back to where it wants to be.”

As for Pedro Pereira, the 19 year old full back, signed as cover for Tommaso Cancellotti after Francesco Luoni’s departure, is believed to have been signed to fit the requirements of Serie B, where under 21 players do not have to be registered, giving Parma manager Paolo Vanoli room for players in other positions who need to be registered. The manager stated ”I am delighted to have secured the signing of Pedro on loan. He really impressed whilst on loan at Belenenses last year. We have been scouting him for a long time now and it is great to have finally secured his signing. If he can play as well as he has done at Sampdoria and in Portugal then we are going to have a great young player on our books and the fact that he doesn’t need to be registered for the league is brilliant.”

The defender himself was also very happy at the transfer. ”Having been bought up by Sampdoria I’m very familiar with Parma and their recent story and for me I would love to be able to help them get back to a level that they would be proud of playing. It is a great club and there is something special going on here and the sense of togetherness and pride in working for the manager is brilliant and something that I am honoured to be a part of.”

They look like two very solid players to have in your back line, hopefully they'll help keep the goals out!

RAFFAELE DI GENNARO NAMED PARMA CAPTAIN

17 August 2017

________________________________________
- Former Internazionale goalkeeper named as Alessandro Lucarelli’s replacement
- 23 year old kept 19 clean sheets in 33 league appearances last year
- Goalkeeper recently signed new contract that expires in June 2020

Parma manager Paolo Vanoli has today confirmed the name of the club’s new captain, after the retirement of long term skipper Alessandro Lucarelli at the end of last season. Whilst Francesco Corapi was deemed the most likely candidate by the local media, goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro has been awarded the armband, just a few days after he signed a new contract that will keep him at the Ennio Tardini until June 2020. The move to appoint the 23 year old goalkeeper as captain has come as a reward for the player signing a new contract at the club and as a result of Paolo Vanoli viewing him as a long term prospect for the club between the two sticks.

Vanoli, after guiding Parma to two successive promotions, and keen on taking Parma back into Serie A at the earliest opportunity claimed: ”I have taken the decision, after long consultation with Alessandro Lucarelli, to appoint Raffaele Di Gennaro as captain. Raffaele is an outstanding goalkeeper and he has done a great deal of work at a great level since we signed him from Internazionale last season. He has done a great job between the posts for us last year and we hope he can have a similar level of success this year. He acts with a great deal of dignity and honour and that is something that is a great quality in a player at this club and he is a natural born leader and will wear and use the armband at this club extremely well.”

His predecessor as club captain, Alessandro Lucarelli, was very praising of the new skipper at Stadio Ennio Tardini. ”Raffaele is a model professional, he has done really well since he came here, and after playing with him last year I know he is going to be a great leader for this club and help lead us forward in this new era at the club. He is so loud out on the pitch and that is amazing for somebody as young as he is in the position he plays and we, as a club, have somebody really special in Raffaele.”

Meanwhile the player himself, expressed his delight and his feeling of being overwhelmed at being named club captain. ”This is a massive honour for me and I am immensely proud. The club have done me a great service by naming me manager and I would like to promise the fans that I will give my absolute best to represent this club with the pride and dignity the fans have given me and that I will give my absolute best to help take this club forward into a new era. I would like to extend my appreciation to Paolo and Alessandro for giving me this opportunity and I cannot wait to lead the club out as the official captain of Parma for the first time.”

It is always big news to announce a new captain, I just know he'll lift a trophy or two for Parma! :P

PARMA RELEASE SQUAD NUMBERS AND DETAILS

20 August 2017

________________________________________
- Paolo Vanoli releases squad details for upcoming 2017/2018 season
- Parma will play in the second tier for the first time since 2008/2009
- Nevio Scala optimistic about chances of return to Serie A

Parma manager Paolo Vanoli has today confirmed and released the details for the squad of players he will use for the club’s upcoming Serie B campaign. The return to Serie B, after being promoted from the third tier, Lega Pro, last year, marks Parma’s first campaign in Serie B since the 2008/2009 season. Only this year’s campaign is one that will be met with optimism after the club was promoted from the third tier last year as opposed to being relegated from Serie A as they were almost a decade ago. Club president Nevio Scala has spoken with huge optimism ahead of the new season stating Parma ”are in a better position than we have been for a long time and are ready to give this year a very good go.”

The most notable inclusions in Parma’s squad see number one goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro, signed from Internazionale last year, given the number 1 shirt, only a few days after being handed the captains armband by manager Paolo Vanoli. New signings Carl Medjani, out injured for 4 to 5 months and Kevin Mendez have been handed the number 4 and 11 shirts, whilst fan favourite Denis Baumgartner has been handed the number 9 shirt usually associated with the centre forward role. Star men Mattia Minesso and Francesco Corapi will wear the 7 and 77 shirts, after being given their favoured shirt numbers, with Mattia Minesso hoping to make a swift return to first team football after a lengthy lay off with injury.

When asked to give his thoughts on the squad available to him, manager Paolo Vanoli claimed ”I am very happy with this squad. We have a great bunch of lads here, and after the successes of last year it wasn’t felt necessary to make massive changes in the squad and overhaul it too much. There are some new additions that have fit right into this squad and they will push the players that have been here for a long time, all the way for the first team spots and hopefully that healthy competition will see us have a great season.” The full details of Parma’s squad for their return to Serie B can be found below.

There's something really satisfying about choosing squad numbers, I see it as an opportunity to create legendary shirt numbers which future generations of players dream of wearing. Good luck for this season and get back into that top-flight!
