Some say Brad Jones is the best goalkeeper to ever grace the beautiful game. The other 99.99% of football fans are realistic and think he's fairly decent. Hopefully he fits in to the former category for you!

I might havet to agree with the 99.99% there to be honest, but hopefully he can have a good time of it at Feyenoord this season!

van Bronckhorst: “We Are Going All Out For This Trophy”

More than three months after Feyenoord won the KNVB Cup they can win a second trophy on Sunday. Eredivisie champions PSV provide the opposition in a match for the Johan Cruijff Shield. ‘It’s nice to play each other so early in the season and to be able to win a trophy,’ said coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst at the pre-match press conference in Zeist on Friday afternoon.

Interesting battle of strength
Van Bronckhorst was joined at the Royal Netherlands Football Association’s office on Friday afternoon by Feyenoord captain Dirk Kuyt, as well as PSV’s coach Phillip Cocu and captain Luuk de Jong. They all looked forward to the first official fixture of the new season. ‘Feyenoord are opponents of high standing who are better than they were last season and have taken the experience from that year into this season. I expect an interesting battle of strength,’ said Cocu.

Morale
Van Bronckhorst agreed. ‘These teams have few secrets from each other. PSV are a very strong team, who in my opinion were warranted champions last season. But we are ready for this match. When you get a chance to win something you have to go all out for it. So that’s what we’ll be doing on Sunday. Starting the season with a trophy would be good for morale.’

Supporters
Feyenoord will be backed by five and a half thousand fans at the Amsterdam Arena. ‘It’s good to be able to take our supporters to this match,’ said Van Bronckhorst. ‘It’s important to have a lot of support in a match like this one. We haven't had supporters when we played away at Ajax the last few years, but I hope that will become possible again in the future.’

The curtain raiser of domestic football will certainly be an exciting event, let's hope Feyenoord come out on top against P$V!
I have faith you will dominate

As Feyenoord looked to build on last season’s KNVB Beker success, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side managed to win all of their six pre-season games, giving them the perfect build up to the Johann Cruijff Schaal game against PSV Eindhoven and their upcoming Eredivisie campaign. Bristol City of the EFL Championship in England and Standard Liege of the Jupiler Pro League in neighbouring Belgium provided van Bronckhorst’s men with their trickiest opposition but even these hurdles were overcame as a Feyenoord side inspired by Eljero Elia and club captain Dirk Kuyt scored 22 goals over their 6 games and conceded just 5.

Great update mate, you have an easier start to the season I would say, so hopefully you can start off well. But first comes the JCS which will be tricky but if you can get the win it's a fantastic start to life in Holland. :)
No Vermeer for the season, is it time for super Brad to shine? :O

(p.s. good luck with the season!)

Thanks mate, yeah it's a good way to start the season and should be a return in terms of the amount of points we pick up! Beating PSV would be huge too and great to start the season with a trophy!

Kuyt Strike Wins Feyenoord Johann Cruijff Schaal

Feyenoord secured their second piece of silverware in 2016, as Dirk Kuyt’s thumping effort in the 76th minute of the Johann Cruijff Schaal match versus League Champions PSV Eindhoven, was enough to secure the trophy for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men. Feyenoord dominated the tie from start to finish but it wasn’t until the introduction of the club captain in the second half that the KNVB Beker winners were able to hit the back of the net and take the advantage in a tie that they fully deserved to win.

Feyenoord had been knocking on the PSV door for the entire match as van Bronckhorst’s 4-2-3-1 formation gave Feyenoord the tactical edge over Philippe Cocu’s side. However it wasn’t until late in the second half when Bilal Basickiglu was switched to the right wing and Nicolai Jorgensen placed on the left with Dirk Kuyt up front on his own that Feyenoord started to really push for the win. It was the Turkish winger that managed to set up the winning goal with a mazy run down the wing before drilling the ball to the edge of the area to find skipper Kuyt whose thumping effort flew past Jeroen Zoet in the PSV goal to give Feyenoord a richly deserved 1-0. The only dampener on the night was that less than 5 minutes after scoring the winning goal Dirk Kuyt was stretchered off after damaging his hip, an injury that means he will miss the next 2 months of the season.

Speaking to the press after the game Giovanni van Bronckhorst said he was delighted to have secured the win against a very good PSV side, and also added ”we were saddened to see Dirk being stretchered off like that as I’m sure the 51,000 people inside the stadium tonight were. He is a great character and a great man and it is sad that he will miss a part of the season that big but tonight he is a hero too after scoring the goal that wins us another trophy in our quest for success.”

Dirk Kuyt is still producing I see, fantastic win for you and some silverware straight from the off which is great to see. The start of a season... a legacy of success. ;)
Great cup win and great graphics man
DIRK! Cometh the hour, cometh the legend! Shame he was stretchered off and will miss a considerable amount of fixtures, but I'm sure you have enough quality to make up for his absence!

Love the man, a stunning goal! Shame hes retired irl today! Those are some big words to live up to but I'm quietly confident we can achieve something this year ;)

We're doing this for Dirk, just hope he doesn't retire at the end of the season in game like he has done in real life! Will miss a rather large chunk of the season but we've got enough cover to see us through just fine I think!
