It's exciting times for the young Austrian!

Leonardo Jardim resigned last summer after taking the club back into 3rd place after the disappointing 2018/19 season which saw him sacked and reappointed, before a 17th place finish.

Jardim famously won the league title in 2017 along with a Champions League semi-final, but in October 2018 he was replaced by Thierry Henry. The less we talk about that the better! He returned in January 2019 before taking the France Nacional Team job in the summer of 2020.

In the 2020/21 season they won their 2nd Coupe de la Ligue title and finished 4th under the guidance of Michael Emenalo. He then resumed his position as Director of Football allowing Marcel Schmid to come in and take the club forward.

As you can see by the previous windows they are completely obsessed with CB's! 8 brought in in 2 years! So, this summer I will be looking at performances in the friendlies to see which ones can be sold.

Straight away I'm looking at potential suitors for Moussa Niakhaté who is our highest earner on €165,000 a week!

Friendly results in the next update
A large amount of center backs for sure. Hopefully Marcel can evaluate the team quickly and have the players he wants into the team.
Intrigued to see how Marcel views the existing side and what improvements he decides to make.

Marcel Schmid - We started off with a loss against Brugge and I can take that because it was the first game for the players in the new system.

On our Portugal tour we didn't concede and we created lots of chances, so those 3 games showed me good signs, and we built on that against Espanyol. The toughest test of the pre-season but we handled it fantastically, so now we are just excited to get the season underway!

Marcel Schmid - The opening month of the season is rounded off with a sensational equaliser from Pellegri!
We worked hard throughout pre-season to be able to work hard in each match.

The transfer window closes in a few days and I expect more things to happen, so it's very exciting at Monaco at the moment.
A good start for Monaco under new management. Marseille are a tricky team to beat, so a point can be considered reasonable.

I think we have to be happy with that considering it's so early in his tenure.
Marcelo Bielsa is appointed at the new RB Salzburg manager!

Bielsa is the man that Salzburg decide to take them forward!

Many are fascinated about his ideas of how to play the game, but he hasn't backed up the hype with a whole lot of success. It will be interesting to see how he does in Austria.

Malang Sarr was signed before Schmid arrived, so another centre back to consider for the first team.

Ziyech is Schmid’s first signing at Monaco and it looks like a bargain. He was the next best thing after Marseille signed Dani Olmo for free from Dinamo Zagreb after we had a contract offer turned down. He was transfer listed at Bayern and will fit well into the attacking midfield role.

Falcao has resigned until December when he is set to retire just for extra bodies upfront. Of course his physicals are now dreadful, but he can still finish.

Dumfries is 2nd choice right back behind captain Sidibé for now but I’m sure he will push for first team soon enough.

Hannes Wolf is a versatile player and it seemed sill to miss out on loaning the Austrian. A former Salzburg player who left just before Schmid joined. Monaco will pay €8,750 per week of €29,000 wage and have the option to buy for just €20m!

Xaver Schlager was an integral part of Schmid’s game over the two seasons he spent in Austria. As the deep lying playmaker he had a big job to do and he will fit in the same role at Monaco.

Finally, the board signed Inoue, a youth prospect from Japan who the club look to loan out for first team opportunities.
Transfers Out

Barreca is an okay LB but we have Jorge as first choice and the youngish Frenchman Ballo-Touré as backup, so there wasn’t really place for him.

Jovetic seems to move every transfer window and he does again as he just isn’t in the plans for this team.

Bielsa is now big after Schmid made €88.12 million NET profit in 2 years, Jemerson their record signing by a huge margin and he will have to perform at his best if that is going to pay off for them.

Fàbregas is sold after being an important time in this Monaco team, but he is getting on a bit now so get some money while we still can.

Salzburg help us out again by loaning Subotic for the season, with an option to buy. It looks like they are going to have trouble fitting all their defenders in, but we will let Bielsa worry about that.

Tielemans is one of the leagues big departures as he makes the move to Manchester United for a significant fee! Monaco happy to oblige with his wishes signed Schlager on the same day.

Inoue with a good loan move just days after signing and Mangala leaves on deadline day to free up some wages and reduce the number of defenders in the squad.

Hannes Wolf loan – 17/8/2021, Pay - €8,750 per week of €29,000 wage and optional future fee - €20m.

Marcel Schmid starts by using the same tactics as he did with Salzburg, with the 1 up front who must work hard to win the ball back as well as score goals.

Pellegri was signed in January 2018 for €21m, but injuries hindered his progress and so he didn't get a look in until a year and a half later.

He takes the number 9 because Schmid believes he can be the star man in this team, he is one to watch for sure.
Some good moves there. The team looks strong, hopefully the results match it!
Monaco asserted themselves as one of Europe's hottest prospects after they won the Ligue 1 title, but unfortunately it prompted them to slowly lose their core over the next season or so. This side gives me hope that the future is bright once again and hopefully, Marcel will be able to retain the core of his squad - unlike Jardim who was forced to lose his most valuable assets.
