After the win in the DFB-Pokal, 1860 Munich started the Bundesliga season with a 2-1 loss against the Rafa Benítez led VfL Wolfsburg before earning a point against bitter rivals Bayern Munich despite being down to ten men for a majority of the match after Eduardo Camavinga was sent off early in the first half after a horrid tackle.

Bundesliga

As it is the first month of the competition, no true trends appear after just two matches although interestingly, no team in the competition has managed to secure two wins in a row to start the season.

-----

Player Of The Month

Marco Kana

After a change in position from last season which saw the Belgian move from centre back to defensive midfielder, the 21-year-old has found his feet quickly in the new role.

Despite not being completely comfortable in his new role, Kana has proved that he is capable of shutting down opposition attacking movements and transitioning defence into attacking play.

Fixtures

As Daniel Bierofka searches for his first win of the 2023/24 season, a balanced month awaits 1860 Munich in September with the fixture against Borussia Dortmund set to be the toughest challenge, a side which the 1860 Munich manager was rumoured to join in the off-season before they elected to hire with Jorge Sampaoli.

TheLFCFan: Kana is loving the new role but I am still trying to find exactly how to play Camavinga.

ScottT & Zed: I was certainly not expecting a team as strong as RB Leipzig so early.

OneMoreGame: That is a great way of looking at it, more games mean more development, I like it!

Jack: *Dusts hands*
You kicked off the season on the back foot, but kudos for keeping Bayern at bay with ten men

Early days, you've got a lot of time to get on track

A tough start as expected. The next couple of months will help to give us a clearer picture of where this team stand in comparison to last season. Good luck against Dortmund in particular.

Not the best start, maybe you expected the reverse results with loosing to Bayern and maybe a win against Wolfsburg. Next month will be better for sure, you need some points!

Really nice to see one of my players (Kana) 4 years in the future (Maurice De Paarse save). Interesting to know that he adapt to his new position quickly. Hopefully you'll get a win now in the league!
It was certainly a tough month to get off on against Bayern and Wolfsburg. Hopefully those two results don't linger around for too long and you can get back on with the league.
Very pleased to see Kana settle in to that role so well. Despite not the greatest of starts, it's two games and you already played the best team in the league and got a point so no need to worry.
The fact that you drew with Bayern when down to 10-men says only one thing to me... you're gonna win the league ;) ! Nice to see Kana move a little forward and continue to play well, now it's up to Camavigga to start performing... once he gets back from suspension. What role are you playing him atm?

Europa League Draw Set For 1860 Munich

The draw for the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League was held in Monaco yesterday

• Napoli await 1860 Munich in their opening fixture of Group C
• 1860 Munich will play home matches at WWK Arena to meet stadium requirements
• Real Madrid defeated Arsenal in the UEFA Europa League final last season

After the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League draw, 1860 Munich have been drawn in Group C alongside Napoli, Besiktas and FK Partizan. From the teams drawn into Group C, Napoli are the only club to have won the competition in the past, claiming the title in the 1988/89 season by defeating VfB Stuttgart.

For 1860 Munich, it will be their return to European football for the first time since the 2000-01 UEFA Cup but they will have to play their matches at FC Augsburg home ground WWK Arena due to not meeting stadium requirements as do not have enough seating at Grünwalder Stadion. 1860 Munich are due to into their new stadium in just under two years, a facility which is expected to a capacity of 22,500.

Finishing fifth in the Serie A last season and missing out on qualification in the UEFA Champions League by one point, Napoli will prove the greatest challenge in Group C. A strong attacking side featuring notable names such as James Rodriguez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be led by key player Fabian with the Spanish midfielder proving to be one of the best players in the Serie A.

Runners up to Galatasaray in the past two editions of the Super Lig, Besiktas should not be underestimated. The Turkish side features experienced players throughout their squad with a key addition for the club this season behind Brahim Diaz who arrived from Real Madrid.

Considered the weakest side in the group, FK Partizan will be no push over with the club known for producing an abundance of young talented players. An example being recent 1860 Munich signing Svetozar Markovic who will be the centre of attention when 1860 Munich face FK Partizan in Serbia with the 23-year-old returning to play against the club he started his career with back in 2014.

The 2023/24 UEFA Europe League final is scheduled to be played at RCDE Stadium, otherwise known as Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, the home stadium of Espanyol in La Liga on the 30th of May.

Tango: Earning a draw against Bayern with a man down was a huge moral victory.

ScottT, OneMoreGame & Jack: Only early days, still a lot of time to settle in and get the new signings into some form.

Wolf, TheLFCFan & J_ames: Kana has looked really impressive, which makes the decision on how to play Camavinga who us currently a Deep Lying Playmaker even harder.
A draw against bayern when you were down to 10 men is a great result. Also a ok seaw there in the Europa League, you have every chance of getting out of that group
Not a easy group, but your team is strong enough to get to the knockout phase!
Should be able to beat Besiktas and Partizan imo, your squad would be way better than theirs. Bit disappointing that the redevelopment of your stadium hasn't been completed yet, it's time for you to go home to Grünwalder Stadion!
A tough group on paper with Napoli and Besiktas especially. It's a shame that you won't gain much of a home advantage either with games being played in Augsburg instead.
Nah, you're gonna be fine
That's a tough draw for a Europa League group, no doubt! Napoli will be the toughest by far but even Partizan will be tricky.
