You've used the free market very cleverly to bring in some decent young talent. Best of luck this season. I hope you can get into the top-half this time.

Congratulations on SotM too!

A good transfer window there and players on permanent deals. Can see the team coming together now and in the long run that will really benefit you.

A good transfer window and hopefully those players will help you jump into the top 10 which will be a nice step forward

ScottT - I hope so too mate! Will try my best, and thanks a lot! Wouldn't have won it without your support!

TheLFCFan - That is the plan mate, always building a squad for the future, we have a ton of talent in the squad if they can all reach their full potential!

Tedbro20 - Cheers mate, I will be very happy with a top 10 finish.
Hey guys, I am thinking about changing my posts, and giving month or two month updates rather than updating a full half season at a time. I am thinking of doing this for two reasons: 1) I can provide more insight into the games and more detail into starting XI/tactics etc 2) Because it is easier for me and I don't have to edit and code a lot of images and text at one time. Let me know what you guys would prefer because I will do what you guys like best. Month to month updates or half season updates? Let me know.

SEASON 9: AUGUST 2027 | A TOUGH START

After a good pre-season and adding more depth to the squad we are reading to begin our 9th season with Palermo and our 4th season in Serie A. We have quite a difficult test straight away with games against Inter Milan and AC Milan in the first month. The first few games will see some rotation in the side, as the new players in the squad will be given an equal opportunity to impress. The toughest decision for me as a manger is selecting who to start in my midfield 3. We have a lot of options, with the addition of Turco & Runje, as well as Diego Esedin returning from loan. Watch this space to see who can solidify their position in the team.

We have very tough games against Inter and AC Milan, but should feel confident in getting win's against Udinese, Brescia and Verona. Those are the kind of teams we have to beat this season if we want to step up into the top 10 in the league. If a world-class team like one of the Milan clubs beat us, we cannot get too discouraged at this stage.

Inter Milan 3-0 Palermo
We knew we would be up for a tough start to our new campaign. Favre's Inter Milan were dominant against us. We employed our counter attacking tactic and created some chances in the game but Inter Milan's quality was just too much for us to handle. Their team is very strong with Sane, Kimmich and Hernandez starting, with quality like Salcedo, Tonali and Gedson to bring on from the bench. Right now Inter Milan are on another level compared to us. We are already looking forward to the next game.

Palermo 1-0 Udinese
Our first victory of the season was against Udinese at home. We were quite lucky to score in the dying moments of the game, Kingsley scored the winner in the 95th minute! A very tough game that we will happily take the 3 points from. I beleive last season, this is the kind of game we would have lost. Early on I am slightly worried about our lack of goals, hopefully Brobbey or Gutierrez can start contributing soon!

Palermo 1-0 AC Milan
An early goal from our experienced Dutchman, Promes was enough to secure the win. A very nice victory against AC Milan, one of the best clubs in Italian football history. Their team line-up was quite strange with Paqueta and Jota as their front 2. We don't often play against 4-4-2 formation's in Serie A, and I feel that played into our hand as we outnumbered their midfield. Diogo Jota got send off was sent off right before half-time, which also helped us to win the game. A great win, now 2 wins on the trot

Brescia 1-0 Palermo
A very poor performance against Brescia who caused us problems last season too. They outplayed us in all aspects of the game, there is not much to say about this much other than we were poor and need to be better in our next game. It is frustrating that we beat Udinese and Milan who have better teams on paper, and then lose to Brescia who look the weakest of the three

After the Brescia match we got a notification about our first bad injury of the season. New signing, Squillaci picked up an injury in training and will be out for 5-7 weeks. Luckily he was more of a squad option, and not one of our important starting players

Palermo 4-2 Verona
A 6 goal thriller that ended in our favour. After conceding 2 goals in the first 16 minutes I thought we were headed for another disappointing draw. We began the game with our 'balanced' tactic and when we went 2-0 down I changed to 'control' and it worked a treat. An amazing comeback, four different goal scorers, and another win in the bag, a lovely way to end the month.

Overall, I am quite happy with our start to the season. One really poor performance against Brescia was the low, but it is great to get 9 points already and we see ourselves in the top 10 early on. There is an early trend of home and away form being complete parallel's so we will aim to fix that as soon as we can. Brobbey and Gutierrez have failed to impress early on and I am beginning to think already, should we sell the pair of them in Jan, and buy a bigger striker. Decision's to be made...

After the first month is complete, just 5 games in, we are 5th in the league. A good start to Season 9. Surprisingly AC Milan are really struggling and are in the relegation zone early on! Surely they won't stay there much longer. Imagine if the season ended now!

As always, thanks for reading!
A couple of scrapes in there, which is always a great way to win ;) You seem to keep on improving, it's excellent to see!

The battle at the top is certainly up in the air after a mixed start from everybody! This is the year you challenge for one of the top spots.

SEASON 9: SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER | IMPORTANT WINS

Sitting 5th in the league at the end of August, put us in a good position to begin the season. Away form has been an issue, but we are yet to lose a game at home. We certainly have a lot of options in the squad, and still don't really have our best XI. The midfield positions are all up for grabs. Pirola is our best CB but he needs a consistent partner, and we have been lacking goals up front. Brobbey the slight favourite at the moment ahead of Gutierrez who has slumped the last season and a half.

The upcoming games look favorable, with Napoli and Juventus our toughest opponents. We have to keep our eye on Sassuolo who are top of the table early on. Consistency is the key. We will also try to progress as far as we can in the cup this season, and our first match in the cup is against Entella who we then play again in our next league match.

Mairno our wonderkid right back is a wanted man. Man City and Liverpool keep coming in with bids that we continue to reject and his agent now want's us to offer him a new contract. Marino agreed a new 5-year deal with the club, although we had to have a release clause and set it as high as we could. £29.5 million is not a lot of money for the likes of Man City, so I won't be surprised if someone pays his release clause in the next couple of seasons. Hopefully before then I can renegotiate his contract and remove the clause. A good season this year and I could also offer him a pay rise and European football would surely entice him to stay in Sicilli.

(A) Sassuolo 2-0 Palermo
This was a tough match against a Sassuolo side who have really developed as a top club in Italy over the past few seasons. Marco Asensio bossed the game. Sassuolo have a striker (Urso) who continue to bag goals in the league, we are keeping our eye on him as a possible January transfer target.

(A) SPAL 0-0 Palermo
A dull affair against SPAL. To be honest we didn't play well and did well not to lose the game. Another tough away fixture, I will look to adjust our tactic's slightly to try and find what works best. Two games now without a goal is slightly worrying.

(H) Palermo 1-0 Entella - Cup
Our first win of the month! A narrow victory in the cup over Entella. I rotated the squad and Nuno Santos was the sole goal scorer in the game. We progress on to the next round.

(A) Entella 0-2 Palermo
Back to back wins! A solid performance, and nice to pick up 3 points away from home. Nuno Santos scored again and loan DM Runje finished off the game. A much better performance and it was good to win a game that we were expected to win.

(H) Palermo 2-4 Bologna
A tough loss to take. Quincy Promes gave us the lead after 39 minutes to put us 2-1 up. However Bologna came back strong to score 3 goals without reply. Our home fortress now has a dent, but we will take the positive from the game. We scored 2 goals, and kept possession well. These things will be to our advantage in building on for the rest of the season.

(H) Palermo 2-1 Napoli
A very good win against a tough Napoli side! We won the game in dramatic fashion. Pol Joensen score the winner in the 91st minute. He hasn't contributed a lot so far this season but turned up when we needed him most! Napoli have been struggling this season, and after this game their manager was sacked.

(H) Palermo 2-0 Sampdoria
A comfortable home win. Brian Brobbey finally decided to show up scoring a brace. This was our most dominant performance of the season so far, holding Sampdoria out to just 1 shot on our goal. A very solid win.

(H) Palermo 0-0 Benevento
Another good performance but unfortunately we couldn't find a way to score. Our lack of goals is still an issue, and we really are looking now for a new striker. Gutierrez has been non existent this season and could be packing his bags very soon.

(H) Palermo 4-3 Juventus
Our last game of the update was a fantastic victory in a 7 goal thriller against Juventus! They were top of the league and we took the game to them and came away victorious. We really are picking up wins in some big important matches! Vlasic equalized in the 92nd minute to make the score 3-3, before Promes scored his second of the game just a minute later to win the game! Promes has surprisingly been one of our best players so far this season, he always seems to impact the game whether he starts or comes off the bench. What a win!

A very good couple of months for us. We beat two top teams, and managed to secure our first away win. We have begun the season very well, although I would still like to be able to kill teams off when we need a goal we are struggling to turn to a reliable striker. I am already looking into the market.

So at the end of October we sit 4th in the league! A very good position. Juventus are running away with the league early, which makes our victory over them even more impressive. AC Milan and Napoli continue to struggle. It is still early and a couple of defeats can change everything so we must continue to focus in each match and continue striving to win every game we play. Forza Palermo!

As always, thanks for reading!

P.S: Please comment if you prefer month to month updates like this or would like me to post half season updates. Still not sure which I prefer?
SEASON 9: NOVEMBER: CONTINUING OUR GOOD FORM

We ended October, 4th in the league! We are playing very well this season and seem to be grinding out results. The ability to rotate that squad has been good for us, as well as the lack of injuries this season so far has been a real positive.

This is a very tough month for us. Roma and Fiorentina and two tough teams, and Cagliari have started the season strong. Napoli will be a tough test, even though they are underachieving and currently sit in 14th place.

(A) Roma 1-1 Palermo
We went to Rome to face up against Mourinho's side. They scored early through their world-class left back Ramalho. Late in the game however we were awarded a penalty and Promes stood up to convert from the spot. Ramalho lost his head and saw red in the last minute of the game. A decent away point that will walk way with.

Napoli Hire Lampard

I have been less than impressed with Gutierrez this season. So I decided to list him already. In January he will be off to France to play for Lille. We sold him for his value of £5.75 million.

(A) Fiorentina 1-1 Palermo
Another away draw against a tough opponent. Both teams scored early on and continued to create chances all game without any end product. A draw is probably a fair result.

I also decided to sell Turco, who we signed for free from Manchester City at the end of last season. He has failed to make an impact on the squad and we made a good profit selling him for £18 million to Wolfsburg. We are trying to gain as much money as we can to bring in a striker in Janurary. Urso is my number one target from Sassuolo but he may be too expensive for us so I am looking elsewhere.

(A) Parma 0-1 Palermo
This was a crazy game. We played terrible and Parma absolutely peppered our goal! Somehow we didn't concede, and then their best player went on to score an own goal in the 74th minute. A very lucky win but we will happily take the 3 points.

(H) Palermo 2-1 Cagliari
Cagliari have been one of the best teams in the league this season, they were second in the league at the end of October. Anthony Hodges made the difference scoring two in a tight game and saving Roudout's ass who missed a penalty. A very good victory, we continue to grind out positive results consistently which we have struggled to do in past seasons.

(A) Napoli 0-0 Palermo
Our last game of the month was against Lampard's Napoli. They absolutely dominated us, yet still we managed to come away with a draw. We still aren't scoring enough, but I cannot be to upset when we still gain a point in matches like this! Urso is incredibly good and we are lucky we have him in goal!

A strange month with our performances rising and dipping although we keep grinding out positive results. Unbeaten in November against some tough teams, I am happy with the performances from the team.

We are now 2nd in the league! I was not expecting this at the start of the season! Juventus are running away with the league early on, and although we are 2nd, there are a lot of teams right behind us so we must continue to pick up points. AC Milan are still struggling and sit in 17th place!

Now I don't know what to say about this.... but next month we have a ridiculous schedule! I realize it must be some sort of glitch in the game (note I am using a custom database), but I don't know how to fix it? We haven't had this issue before, and I have been looking all over the internet for ways to fix this but I cannot find anything. We may just have to play through it and hope we don't get a schedule like this again. It is disappointing because it is really going to mess the league up and anything can happen as every team in the league have crazy schedules like this. The teams in Europe play an extra two games in December too! It is a madness... what do you guys know? Any suggestions? It also mean's that after December there are only 7 games left in the league.... in that case I would save the finances we have and invest in new player's at the end of the season. Let's see if you can help or if I can find anything to fix it!?

As always, thanks for reading!
The consistency is now coming through with Palermo sitting in 2nd. That December schedule is completely mental! I am not sure how to fix it, but if you can't, at least play through and rotate, as every team is in the same boat I suppose.
1
Absolutely mental schedule, I go nuts when I play 7 games in a month! I guess there's gonna be some pretty crazy levels of rotation this month, the only benefit being [as Eoin said] that every team is in the same predicament
1
That schedule is absolutely ridiculous man... my god
1
Is that schedule the post-coronavirus league restart plan by any chance?
1
oft that is mental. Is there a major competition happening again mid season somewhere?
